Location Description:

This old schoolhouse was built before the turn of the century. It was even used as the St. Albans Haunted House Halloween Event from 1979 to 1989. During the 1920`s, a janitor died from a heart attack in a girl`s restroom, located in the cellar. Cold spots and odd sensations have occurred here, as well as an apparition appearing in a window in the south wing upstairs. That particular window refuses to remain closed after attempts to nail it shut. Sounds of footsteps have also been heard in that location as well as lights going off and on. People have even reported hearing eerie voices.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	Growing up as a kid in the area, I had a number of situations happen while the Barlow srteet School.I have seen images of people satanding in windows, also heard voices comming from inside. I have also had feels like somebody was touching me on the shoulder inside the building in the cellar area. When they were doing the haunted house, alot of strange things would happen that couldnt be explained. I worked in the haunted house and worked the cellar area, I think I was more scared than we were scared the people.I know alot of people that have had the same things happen to them. There was a emergency exit on the side of the building that always opened, you could close it and it would open back up. The lights would flicker on and off all the time, and there wasnt anybody in the building, also ther was a old enclosed slide for the fire escape. If you listened you could hearvoices coming from the old enclosed slide, and banging coming from inside the slide.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	While the story about a janitor dying in the school is compelling, it is also untrue. That story was started by the man who was in charge of the Haunted House and various other events we had in St. Albans in the 1980's - Jim Hilton. He was great at building the stories. I worked in the Haunted House and Jim would make a big deal about nailing one particular window shut with several long nails, surreptitiously returning later in the night and remove the nails. The next day he would make a big deal about the window being open and the nails being pulled out. This was to make even the people working on the haunted house start to think it was haunted. It was great fun.
