Location Description:

The time was 1966 in Point Pleasant, W.Va., and something very strange was happening. More than 100 people reported seeing a 9-foot-tall, black, winged creature with glowing red eyes. Some said it spoke to them and forewarned of an impending disaster in their town, a small farming community at the intersection of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers. One year later, their worst fears were realized when the bridge over the Ohio River, connecting Point Pleasant to Ohio, collapsed and 47 people died.

"Mothman"--as the beast was known by locals--was never seen or heard from again.

In the area Called T.N.T. the U.S. military used to make explosives there during World War II. There are over 100 igloos in the area, where they stored the T.N.T. This is the place where sightings of the Mothman have occurred. The first sighting was here at the old North Power Plant, now destroyed back in 1995.

I visited here on a trip in mid July. I didn`t get nearly as much time in the Point Pleasant area as I would have liked. One of the pics I uploaded is the statue on Main St. the others are of some of the few remaining structure there. I think I read these were used to hold large chemical tanks of some kind, I`m not sure. You can get to it by following Route 62 out of Point Pleasant going North until you reach the Fairgrounds road. The structure above was located off the road in the refuge a ways. There was a building and a road blocked by a guardrail we parked next to then walked back to it. Only reason we found it was because I had coordinates to it with the GPS.

If you go into the Mothman museuem the guys there can give you directions to TNT area, and they have free maps you can take to help find your way there.

I was born in Point Pleasant and grew up just down the road in eastern Ky. I remember the mothman sightings and know that many of the people who reported seeing the mothman were upstanding individuals in the community. I clearly remember the collapse of the Silver Bridge and the shock of so many in Point Pleasant (including many of my relatives still living there). I have been out to the T.N.T. area several times and would encourage anyone interested in the paranormal to visit the area. Check out also the Curse of Chief Cornstalk and other strange events in and around Point Pleasant.

The mothman facinates me! Thats one of my paranormal teams specialties. The whole mothman ordeal is interesting to just about anybody who reads it. I think that there was and still is some kind of monster lurking around the area.
