Description:

People have reported loud crashing noises coming from the building. People have reported seeing an old woman looking out the window. People have reported that a little girl has been seen floating on the front lawn. Workers have reported upstairs when you look in the mirror they see people but when they turn around nothing is there.

**update** (4/10/2008)

The manor has been shut down from business for awhile now.  There hasn't been word about any haunting from anyone who live in the apartments.

**update** (2/11/2009)

If you read down below on the comments, there was and if I remember right, there still is activity on the location.  She has it written out and it comes close to what the report above says about the little girl.  And she also mentions a room that has a lot of windows, my guess the old big dining hall, and that only one window is lit and she could see a man holding a platter of drinks to be served.  I'm mentioning it so it saves you time looking for the post.

**update** (7/22/13)

Yes it was torn down awhile ago.  Like last year.  Sorry haven't updated this in awhile.  Apparently I couldn't find the site or my computer wouldn't let me.  Management let the building go and fell into disrepair and was condemned so it had to be torn down.  So between current owner and the City of Beloit (or Town of since it is probably located in the town lines) they decided to tear it down and really probably didn't have to tell anyone since it was condemned.  Yes it's sad that it is torn down since it was old and had history but it was condemned so they didn't want those to sneak in for a good scare to get hurt and be liable.  Besides, there is a chance the ghosts are still there on the land itself.  We won't know more until they may build again on the land.  I'll have to take the time to sit down with my mother and type up her experience from there since she worked there in the 80s when it was still a running business.  In the meantime, I found two links.  One is a Beloit Daily News article about it being tore down and some history about it.  The second is from Voices through the Static who did some research and investigations on the site while the building was still up.  Included are EVPs and some pictures.

I`ve been there before for a dinner when i was a few years younger. Now the resturant is closed down but you can still look at it and the Manor Apartments that are across the way is still open of what I know of.

When I was very little I lived in the Manor apartments. A couple years ago I went inside the manor for a haunted house they set up there and it was very scary.About two months or so ago before they boarded up the manor my scanner reported someone having seen someone in a window of the manor although its abandoned and the police found no one. Just today I drove up to the building with my husband and we both got a eery feeling just being there again. I also had a aunt that worked there when the manor was a restraunt.

I would love to find out some more history of the manor . I would love to know who owns it and also why it is all boarded up . I drove up to it tonight because I heard it was haunted . All the windows are coverd up so you cant even look inside . Something has to be going on or I doubt they would care if we looked inside . If anyone knows anything please email me at dvdfreak2005@yahoo.com

I'm not sure who owns it but I think it's closed because they lost buisness because they were too expensive.  Losts of things in Beloit are closing like that because of their high prices for things.

Everything in The Manor is boarded up now, so I couldn't tell if there was anybody in the window or anything. Further looking into it.

I used to live in the apartments across from the manor. i have seen the little girl, I have seen a person in the window. I looked at the manor and there was ONE window lit up--in a room full of windows---with a waiter holding a plate full of drinks. I also went there to eat when it was opened, and they would let people walk upstairs and look around, but not eat, and when i looked in the mirror, i did see people behind me, I didn't know that anyone else really saw these things because my friends that were in the manor with me never saw anything and though i was just playing. I REALLY have seen these things. NO JOKE. I lived in the manor apartments for 12 years!!!! I always wanted to call those ghost hunting shows and go spend the night in there. kellz286@yahoo.com

I know I had the wrong address...I mentioned that up on the description since it's no longer listed in the phone book and there was no other ways to look it up.  But thanks I'll change it now so it can be correct.

I grew up in the area. Used to eat at the Manor. Went there for prom even. Once when I was a kid, I went outside after dinner to explore while my parents stayed at the table. It is a really cool site: wooded, Turtle Creek not far off, old outbuildings and such. I came across a little girl and said "hi." She said nothing. I asked if she was eating there too and she shook her head. She smiled at me but said nothing. I remember this very well. I was just a little kid, maybe 6 or 7. Who knows if this was a ghost encounter? Never will. I know much more about current status and ownership, but cannot divulge for personal reasons and that will have to suffice. I also had the opportunity years later to explore the entire building and surroundings while it was vacant. Nothing extraordinary happened. In my opinion, the biggest haunted site in that area was the Wagon Wheel in nearby Rockton, IL, but that place has all been torn down.

The Wagon Wheel was burnt down wasn't it?  And were are these outhouses?  I'm always by Turtle creek and I don't remember them...unless they go with the places you can hold picnics at.  Anyways, I plan on, when my semester at college ends, to go out by the Manor and McNeal, since I also control that, and get pictures.  I think since McNeal won't get anything besides the building will be there since a lot of kids go there and many pictures are taken outside and I haven't heard pictures having things in them.  But maybe at the Manor since it's abandoned and people say there is a ghost girl outside.  We'll see when I take pictures.

Well I Know this Manor very well 8 years ago it was called the Manor X, My dad used to own it. I work in there, but lately i been visiting there for the last couple of days, and freaky things has happen, The back door is busted open so we where going to go in, For some reasons i would get dreams about me going to the basement, when i was younger i always hated go in that basement, To me the basement seems very crowed and cold and, We took a pic of the buliding i am not sure but my friends see 4 ppl like figure that werent there. One was a Women, a Guy on the roof, A little girl, and the Fianl look like a Tall Figure in the woods and it doesn't look friendly, When we were going in i starting feeling drained and my baody collapes, one of my firends got attackes and got a scracth on her leg. The place is freaky so my advise is if going in be careful

I know quite a bit about the manor and I can tell you that you will get arrested for trespassing if you get caught on the property. The police watch that house very closely. I wouldn't risk it.

You kidding me?  The Beloit Police does something?  That is a good laugh.  Unless that is town of Beloit not city.  But I believe the Manor is in the city limits not town.  My guess for getting permission is find the current owners and ask them for permission and have them write a note so in case the cops do come.  For the anonymous visitor that wrote on 4/2, did you take any pictures?  Ususally you can't see things unless you take pictures.  Even voice recording.  You won't know they were there unless you did that.  For the visitor at 3/25, do you still have those pictures?  I'm trying to go get pictures of the place, with or without ghosts, and haven't had time to go there yet.  It will be nice to have those especially the one with the 4 "other" people as you said.

i have been living by the manor for years- i do have many pictures of apparitions and orbs on ar surround the property- my mom and i are trying to start a paranormal investigators group in Beloit for the local people. my mother has been in the house and they were in the room thats was to the far left of the house and the sprinkler system went off only in that room. (fire dept was called for help) the firemen showed up and questioned it because if there was a true fire or the system went off it is programed to go of all at one throughout the ENTIRE house not just in that room (thats how a sprinkler system works) the firemen were spooked and couldnt figure out what had actually happined. you will get arrested for going in there alone without a permit. the only ppl that i know who may have a permit is SWPRG ( southern wisconsin paranormal research group. if anyone has and questions or wants copy of the pictures that i have please email me at ashley_young@rockmail.com

I live in the manor apartments, and leave early for work right around dawn. Many mornings while looking for traffic coming from that direction, I have seen shadows of someone walking the lawn, knowing now that its all boared up and no one is ever over there. I would love to inside, been years since it has been open. An I know at one time there was talk about it coming down.

I've been in there once while it was open.  It was for a wedding rehersal I think.  Dunno but my grandfather is a photo-holic and takes lots of photos.  I'm going over to his house later on so I'll look for photos there and see if I can see anything.

I actually live right next to the manor, after hearing some stories i investigated, Ive had no encounters and haven't been able to find ANY history on the damn building. I've tried researching but all i have found is the story about seeing an old lady a young girl mistereist shadowy figures in mirror witch disappear when you turn around and something about bleeding ceilings. but what i wanted to know is the story where'd the ghost come from why does ceiling bleed and anything else about it. BTW i do have some photo, i didnt trust pass per say i simple went their in the middle of the night when no one was around without permission.....shhhh ^.^ ps: if u are feeling confidant there maybe a "loose" window board behind the build in what i think is the dinning area ;)

my step sister went into the manor illegaly many times. theres nothing there. just a bunch of cartune pictures and other trinkets. that place is on lockdown. theres no way youll get permission to go in. people have stole all kinds of stuff from there. soo uhh no way

however i DID go to mcneel. the old director there is my favorite  teacher ever. they took the drama program out last year. budget cuts. anyways, im only a sophomore so it was only two years ago i was there. the ghost of david there is real. i dont ususally believe in it...but ever since my friends experience and my experience and asking franz if the whole whole plug in her head thing was real....i know it is.

nothing will happen to you if youre not there on a daily basis. hardly anything ever does. NOTHING will happen at the manor

Ok since I control the original McNeel one, if you have any comments regarding it please leave it there NOT here or if you want to leave me a message on here (join if you need be) and my uncle says the Manor might be since his brother worked there and saw some freaky things but please if you go to check it out, take pictures even if there is no ghost. I haven't had time to go out there to take one for myself.

I want to know how someone "broke" into the manor when the windows are cemented.. as well as alarms around the door handles....I take a lot of photographs of this place for my photography course...so far no cops have bothered me...but sometimes if you are doing some kind of assignment or project you can actually get inside some of the places. I havent tried the manor yet...Ive been in once back when they used to have the haunted house there....i saw nothing to special....i plan to go at night to take images but due to the longer exposure time it probably wont show anything. and "orbs" can be anything even just dust floating....Ive never heard or seen proof that this place is actually haunted....just kind of seemed like a easy way to get people to come to the haunted house because its historical...

i worked at the manor when i was a teenager,  when you go down to the basement i was told someone was killed in the room at the bottom of the stairs left hand side.  i can tell you first hand that when we were there late at night we would hear some very strange sounds.  with reguards to the young girl i was told she died in the room straight back from the front door. its a curved shape room.

Me and my friends are doing a project on hauntings in Beloit and the pictures would be super helpful!! (our teacher is a very hard person to convince and pictures would be very good proof)

Me and my buddies almost go close to getting busted while we were there. We got in by a loose board on the back window. Only took 5 minutes before a car was at the front, and we ended up walking an hour through the woods. When we drove off the cops came unmarked and went the opposite way towards the manor. I saw nothing out of the ordinary, but there are about 15 pinball machines on the main floor and the kitchen area is completely stripped. Never made it anywhere else before that car pulled up. I checked the doors for silent alarms, but I saw nothing (however, I heard the car pull up about 10 seconds after I went towards the main door, so don't go quoting me on this). The building has power to it as the lights worked fine (yeah my friend is an idiot). The place scares the hell out of me, but I saw nothing paranormal.

I heard it used to be a gothic resturant back in early 2000 so that would explain the weird/demonic themed crap inside. A friend who went at an earlier time said there were strobe lights in the basement along and upstairs there was a bunch of halloween props, including a full casket and some writing on the walls. Otherwise he said it is just mostly junk in there.

To all the people saying they can hear loud crashing at night, it is more than likely people just breaking in.

My mom worked there. She had weird things happen there. She was a busser there and after they bussed tables sometimes a corner would be flipped up but none of them did it. There was other things she said but can't remember. My dad's best friend (who I call my uncle for future reference) used to live in the apartments across the street. I have to ask him for stories. My mom would've worked there in the 80s but can't remember if she said when she did. I plan on going out with someone soon for pictures. Have to ask around for someone who can go with me. My mom won't let me go alone and she won't take me even though I'm old enough since I'm over 18. But anyways, thanks glitter_beach for the picture.

I personally think it is haunted, I have seen pictures of a figure of a little boy. I have went through it when it was open, I didn't see anything but many different people that worked their told me stories. Also I do know that a paranormal group did tour it about a month ago, I talked to the police officer that was their with them he said they heard loud bangs up stairs, and someone saw a man in the bathroom. He said the condition of it was terrible, the front staircase is unusable, they had to use the back stairs. I work at the Road Dawg Family Restaraunt (the old County Kitchen and Plantation Room) I can tell u from personal experience that place is haunted, Many different things have happend their!

I am stunned by the photo of this place. I went there for dinner in the late 70s early 80s and it was a beautiful place , the restaurant was one of the most expensuve in Beloit at that time but the place was incredible. It was well maintained and filled with antiques. I believe it was haunted at that time and I am sure it still is today. Going on vacation there soon and will photograph the outside. Such a shame that such a house is now abandoned it has alot of history and many fine memories.

I went there with my friend last night and their is a bunch of stuff in the side of the shed, tractor, engine. In the back there are dilapidated steps along a wall over the creek. I did not see anything very cool, unfortuately. However, i noticed the side door has no lock, however, it claims to be protected by a securitu system. I heard absolutely nothing on rock county's police scanner at all. So, we peered in, but that was all. It was vey creepy to do at 1:30 lol. deleriumtriggr@gmail.com questions. I will be starting an investigation of this. I will start up a blog and post here shortly.

I have investigated there, many times. It IS haunted. That being said it is best not to go around there because the police do watch it. Even having permission to be in the building they stopped to see my proof several times. There is a lot of mold and much of the interior is unstable. The ceilings are falling in and it is full of racoons. Not a pretty sight.

No not really besides how it closed down. Too high prices and all that. I talked to my mom recently since we moved closer to Madison now and we came back down a few days ago and I said something along the lines on how it was a shame that it closed down. But we both are willing to bet give another few years and someone will buy it, fix it up and put it back into operation again. Thats how most stuff works in Beloit. Or they will find something to go in there besides a resturant since the library is up in the old mall so something like that. My grandpa is on the Landmarks commision so maybe I can get a story out of him. But every family member I talk to says they too believe that the Manor is haunted but not McNeel.

Say what you want, but my house is part of the original Freeman estate to the north of the main house. The house and grounds ARE haunted. I've seen the old lady and the child, both in the house AND in the woods that separate the two houses. Tall shadow figure in the concrete outbuilding in the woods. Very disturbing. The last time I was in the house was a couple of years ago and I will never go inside again. I won't go onto the main house property after dusk. Too much activity and energy. It is correct that the police patrol the area heavily, but mostly due to the high crime area apartments across the street. The inside is pretty bad. I would be concerned about safety of floors and staircases if you got in.

I forgot all about this site so if anyone had tried to contact me... that probably didn't work... I HAVE seen this little girl and I didn't even know other people had seen her.. I saw her when I was in like 4th grade.... I have seen an older man who would always be leaning against something ie. walk, tree, fence with his arms crossed and one leg up on the wall and he was african american...I have seen the man in the window with the tray with JUST that one window lit up when ALL the windows are in the same house... I also went there to eat when I was probably in middle school for valentines day dinner with my mom... we just had to walk across the street. lol . and they showed us the upstairs even though it wasn't open... I looked in the mirror and all the tables behind me were filled with people but when I turned around there was nobody... I've seen things...and reading theses posts have given me the goosebumpy, stomach turning feeling that you get when you see em, like paranoid now.. because I know theres one in my house that only comes around when I think of it... and now well... the end... kellykellz286@yahoo.com I dont have pictures...but I would go back out there...even though it scares me. lol... im down

A lot of energy on and around that whole property, there is a way in if you want to explore i know because me and my girlfriend were in there for about 4 hours one mo ago, a couple of people that were with us were not taking it seriously so it was kind of a waste but be-leave me its haunted, the woods is an equally haunted area so if ur scared of the police just sit out there and be quiet NO Ouija Boards!!!!! you will regret it BELIEVE ME YOU DON'T WANT TO BRING HOME what u just wanted to be a quick scare think a about it

I worked there about 15 years ago. The place did have a creepy feel to it. Many people believed it to be haunted. Regarding claims of cars dying, I have witnessed this a few times. Not sure if it was paranormal in origin however. I would like to go and investigate. Is anyone interested in joining me if I can get permission? ... by the way, does anyone know who to cantact for permission to check the place out? if so cantact me at bgblueshd1@hotmail.com or ltuck00@live.com.

I think you should start with a realtor named Joel Patch. YOu can get a phone number off of alot of the for sale signs in the area.

I visited the manor in the summer of 2010 with a couple buddies of mine. We went there about one in the morning and we were all scarred. We got to the back of the building and all of the windows and doors were boarded up except for one window, which was broken open. We went in and we were in a room full of gum ball machines. There wasnt really anything weird about them because they were all like brand new and it looked like someone was just storing them there. We went out into the foryear (spelling) and we were at the bottom of the stairs. The railings were gone and there was a dead raccoon on the bottom stepp. pretty creepy.. At the top iof the stairs there is a handprint smeared with red paint. But in the dark, with only a flashlight, it looked like blood. We went up the stairs and there was red paint smeared everywhere! I think it was prally just kids in there messing around. And the room upstairs with all the mirrors: we looked in the mirrors and we saw nothing out of the ordinary. We even smoked a blunt in that room. :) lol. There is also a coffin upstairs and a bar. We explored every room, most of them empty, and some with halloween decorations. But there was one room which was locked... My friends wanted to kick it down, but i said "maybe the door is locked for a reason, and we shouldnt go in there." They listened and we moved on. The basement was by-far the creepiest part of the whole house. We didnt want to go down there, but that was the only oart of the house we hadnt seen so we had to go. There are about ten to fifteen walk-in freezers down there and they are all white. They kind of looked like padded rooms, so were were super creeped out. But there was a radio down there which made us think that there were people who had had parties down there. The dining hall is huge, and is on the first floor, with the big bar. But after our visit, i was sure it was not haunted. and i even got a pair of pop-out eye glasses i found there. :) the ones with eyes on the slinkies... But then we went there again in september.. It was just me and one friend, so it was scarier than the last time. We went in and there was a lot of stuff that was not there before. Like piles of random stuff like clothes, shampoo, magazines, and even a vibrator. When we got into the main dining hall on the first floor, we started to hear things.. like people moving around, and running upstairs.. We were super freaked out and we got the hell out of there. after that night, my curiosity is fufilled. even though it could have been homeless people in the building, i will never go back in there again.. especially at night. But if ur looking for a great thrill in the middle of the night, it is a great time. Im glad i went, because now i have another good story to tell...

Not sure who to get a hold of to be let in.  But I want to learn more about the land and the history of the land itself.  I'll have to ask my grandfather whose on the landmarks com. about where to go for that.  I'll like just to get over there just to take pictures since just one for this place is pretty sad.  My mom doesn't want me to go alone to the place and prefer I bring my cousin or a guy friend or a guy with me to take the photos.  But I'll see about that.  I moved a little over a year ago to a bit north in WI but not too far and I still come back to Beloit due to having family there still.

Let me know if you want to go over there.  Like I said, I live in the house that was part of the original property.  The police know me and they would not give me any hassles if you took pictures.  However, if you decide to go in, you're on your own.  I've been in and will not go back.  There is a rubber ball on my property that I've moved before and strangely enough, the next day it ends up in the same place.  I believe that the little girl in the woods believes it is hers and doesn't like anyone moving it or playing with it.  I have since let the vegetation grow around it so it does not get disturbed anymore.  Very creepy.

The Beloit PD did some training in the Manor last weekend.  There has been ALOT of activity since.  One of the boards is off of one of the front windows on the second floor.  I've seen the little girl again, in the grassy area next to the garage.

For some reason I decided to look up info on the Manor this week.  I happen to find this post and all your stories are great. My dad lived in the apartments for a year or two after my parents got divorced (1988-1990). We us to play in the woods around the Manor and swim down in Turtle creek behind the place. I have many strange memories of that place but the one I really want to know more about or see if someone can verify is about the bridge in the old garden (I think it would be east of the Manor). It is the area between the Manor and the houses. Not the new houses, the one that were there in the 80s. In there is a old concrete bridge with a really old man hole cover on it. I would love to have the cover because the detail in the casting was really cool. Anyway the cover was locked and is in the middle of the bridge. One day two friends and I were messing with the lock and it opened. When we pull off the cover the center of the bridge was open with a small open room like area. Down one side of the bridge, toward the Manor, was a tunnel that was full of cob webs. My friends lowered me down and I shined a flash light down the tunnel and I did not see an end to it. We did not go any further than the open area in the bridge but said when we got older we would come back and check it out. Never did though. Has anyone else seen inside the bridge or gone down the tunnel or was my mind just playing tricks with me and the tunnel was only a few feet deep and stopped where the bridge ran into the ground? Please let me know if anyone knows anything. I may run down and see if the bridge is still there now that the posts say the manor is gone. shane.worden@yahoo.com

Truthfully, with it being such a beautiful Historical Site I don't understand why someone or a group of people don't go in and restore it like the Wheeler House in South Beloit.
I would love to see the old place restored,,am sure there are many other's who would as well...Where does a person begin to find donors and get the construction going?

My Mom use to work out at The Manor in the 70's-late 80's for Nino Germano and John Fiorello. I use to go out there with her when I was a little girl all the time and my favorite place to play was the fountain room upstairs. We were all very close, family. I got in trouble once because the fountains were turned on but I didn't do it and my Mom would feel a hand on her shoulders once in awhile and when she turned around no one was there. I loved that place, it's to bad that it had to be torn down.

Myself and my team were set to do an investigation at the Manor in 2010. We were to do it that coming Saturday night but my team lead at the time got a call to cancel it. Apparently the grounds keeper had been taking money to allow investigation groups in without permission from the property owner and keeping the money.  I did contact the property owner myself to get permission to investigate. I met with him at his office and was told then that he was originally trying to sell it but no one would pay his price then he began planning to demolish it because, yes it was in bad condition and would cost way to much to bring up to date. He said in the end he was going to level it because he was sick and tired of all the talk of the hauntings and he would make more money by selling the land itself than he could with the structure on it.
