Cemetery Park, also known at "Dog Park" is a really cool park to visit! It used to be a Catholic Cemetery until sometime in the 1950`s, it was deemed an eyesore by the city and so the city turned into a park. The kicker is that the city never actually removed the bodies, they just removed the old makers and headstones and then laid sod! Scattered around the grounds of the park are brass cemetery markers with the names and dates of the deceased who are buried below. Family members had to request these brass markers. The city is currently deciding whether or not they should return the park back to a cemetery or erect some sort of memorial plaque listing all the names of those who are buried in the park. Some of the bodies were moved to Ivy Lawn Cemetery nearby and only markers or headstones that were requested by family members were saved, the rest were bulldozed into a nearby wash. Incidentally, after a storm some of those headstones washed ashore and were found on Ventura Beach!

I lived next door and then across the street from Cemetery Park when I was in high school. That was in the early 70's and many nights were spent in that park playing games, making out, and whatever else teenagers do. I'll admit it was kind of scary cutting across the park by myself at night or when the beach fog rolled in but I never saw anything that even remotely resembled a boy hanging from a tree. I never heard that story before either and I lived in Ventura for 25 years.

McKimmy you sound like you might also be from Ventura. Did you ever hike up to Hall Canyon off Poli? Some of headstones removed from the park were just dumped into a ravine there. Most of them were broken but there were a lot of large pieces that were still readable. It's been 30 years and I'm still wondering why anyone would do such a thing.

I went to Cemetery Memorial Park a little over a week ago, and I can safely say that this place isn't really so spooky. The reason being that this location is right by Main Street, which is well lit up and receives lot of traffic from both vehicles and pedestrians. Also, the park is mostly made up of a wide, open yard dotted with a few trees. The creepiest spot to be is the old style swing beneath one of the trees. That aside, I didn't really sense anything. There were other people walking around in the park, and I could have sworn that a very large orb appeared for a split second before my eyes. But I'm not too sure if it was anything ghostly. I did feel the cold breeze that everybody mentions, though. It's near winter, but the evening was warm that night. When my sister and I sat in the middle of the field, I thought it seemed considerably cooler. Could just be in my head, though. It's nice to sit in the park at night, but I don't know about much activity.

I have been here multiple times at night (on Halloween night once at midnight) and I have always felt like there was something there. Hanging from one of the trees is a swing and My friend and I were doing an EVP and said if there was any one there that they please sit on the swing and we both could have sworn that the swing went down as though something we couldn't see had sat down on it. They're are more than 3,000 bodies down there so I wouldn't doubt we saw something.
