Location Description:

Every 13th of August it is said that when you go into the woods and walk along the old dirt trail, about 11:30 to 12:30 you can hear children screaming and crying for help and the little hairs on the back of your neck will rise without intention.

I am planning a visit to the woods 08/13/07 its only a few days away.. AnonymousVisiter ** -	Yes I have lived there too and never heard of it but I've heard that its the JPV trail. The only problem with that is its very close to a neighborhood and that could make you think the children crying is coming from the woods.

AnonymousVisiter ** -	the woods in question are located off of recker highway and were gutted out about four or five years ago. they built a walking and jogging trail through them that extends to lake howard. I grew up in JPV and have played in those woods a few times as a child before they were dug up. the only thing i have experinced there was an eerie feeling i got when we found an old decaying wooden shack in the woods a couple hundred feet off the railroad tracks but i was to young to be out in the woods at the times mentioned in the tale so i don't know if it is valid

I've seen the haunted woods story all over the net and have no idea where they are and I've lived here all my life. If the shack is where I'm thinking you found it, there used to be an old dairy barn there many years ago, not sure if it's still standing now because the trees have grown up so much you can no longer see from the street.

AnonymousVisiter	I lived in JPV. All of JPV was woods. The developer named it after his two daughters Jan and Phyllis. They are all deceased now. There was a triangle park in the road by Lake Thomas that Polk County Engineering took as Maintained Right of Way back around 2001-2002. The area off of Spirit Lake Road across from 2nd Street was a hught dump. They were always burning trash at night that luminated the sky. JPV consisted of 2nd Street to Lake Sears. Everything else was woods. The old part of JPV was across from Spirit Lake Road by the dump. The woods were all around JPV. There is a trail that goes behind the old factory across from the church. Those woods have a trial that was encompassed by woods. Which maybe do not have demonic spirits but our house did on 2nd Street. Strange things happened. I told my father of happenings. And he too saw spirit. They were evil and demonic. We were the first family that grew up in that house. I believe all the chaos and fighting created the demoinc influence. The factory was abandoneda and as kids we broke in all the time and played in it. It caught on fire several times. Also, there were homeless that had a make shift house out in those woods. There was woods all out at Lake Thomas. Lake Thomas has a spring in it. there is a hugh drainage erosion from under spritit Lake Road that runs from Lake Thomas to Lake Sears. The woods north and east of Lake Sears were where horses were kept. The Thompsons owned them and as kids we use to ride them. There is a trial that runs all the way out from the beginning of Lake Sears parking lot running east. That was all woods. I am 50 and grew up out there. I even have a picture of me from the newspaper when we first bought the house. NOW; heres the kicker of the story. A couple of years ago the house I grew up in was being sold by my siblings. A child hood friend of mine said there was young kids playing around that house and she told them to get away from it. The kids said; " No way we aren't playing there; that house is haunted." My friend told me she told those kids; "That house is not haunted." I told her....oh yes it is.....; I believe the JPV woods with the trail they are referring to are the woods behind 2nd Street and not the woods by Lake Thomas or Lake Sears. The old dump the county built a park over. Wonder if they ever cleaned up and called Enviromental issues underground from that old dump before they built a kids ball park over it. The Factory is an enviromental hazard due to all the paind and chemicals underground. The only horror story I was ever told as a child was on 2nd Stree there is a 2 story house. That house inside has a widow in a upper hidden small kind of storage room where you can view the kitchen. I recall something that happened and/or killed in that house. Also, at the end of the road on Polk and 2nd in the old Polk House; someone tried to trap me and my two brothers in that house. Strange things happened in that area and I attributed it to the violence, arguing, disquieted atmosphere of poverty and kids and duress of that time and era. The hugh 3 story house that was across from 2nd street on the other sided of spirit lake road was torn down. A man once got his arm caught in a tracktor of some type. The grandchildren of that man lived on 3rd Street. Perhaps the hauntings in the woods were bums; like back in my day when I was a kid. Behind my house was an old baseball field. We always had clothes stolen off our clothes line and peeping toms. Spirits are not angels of the Lord and are demonic. The bible says not to bother with the "neither world" God is the head of all power so be amazed by HIM not ghost. God does much way bigger miracles than the devil and his fallen angels. AnonymousVisiter	Okay here is more information. Behind Mr. Bearsferds house he would burn wood and trash and things. I was 3 or 4 years old playing in the woods. I was playing with my boyfriend Tommy. We were playing on these old pine trees that had fallen down. Some of the limbs were piles of white ash. We were pretending to be on a ship. So I jumped in the ashes so my boyfriend could save me. Instead I was badly burned on my feet. I screamed and screamed for help. I was picked up by a teenager; a Drysdale boy and I passed out. I was never taken to the doctor. I crawled around all summer long. I remember the sever pain. That happened out in the woods out there by what we called the trail. Maybe it's me they still hear screaming after all these years. I once had a car follow me and I had to hide and dodge behind trees because he was trying to grab me. There was a lot of hurt and pain in that neighborhood. I was hit in the head with a brick and my head was busted open. My siblings built a underground fort and put plywood over the top and it caved in on my sister. Maybe they hear her screams. Either way we all made it to adulthood. Playing chicken with the RR and thrwoing rocks at trains. My brother was knocked uncoucious at the factory when I tied him to a wagon and pulled him with my bike. We played hard and got hurt a lot. One brother cut open his leg severly out in those woods playing army. Maybe the kids they here at night screaming in those woods on an August day is me and my 5 brothers and sisters; maybe it's all the kids we grew up with with motor bikes and horses and running that trial with pee pee guns shooting each other. I learned a lot in the JPV woods with the trail. It was where I went to get away from a not so wonderful childhood. It was where I went to talk to God and pray. Funny; I never found the woods haunted or dangerous; but I did my own home.
