Location Description:

Scary Dairy is located near California State University of Channel Islands, which was formally Camarillo State Hospital, a mental institution. Scary Dairy is tagged by gangsters, and it is rumored to have had murders taken place in the area. We are unsure if the Scary Dairy was a slaughterhouse or a dairy, but there are a lot of rooms in the building. Most of the walls are fallen down, and there seems to be lot of dumping in the area. Scary Dairy gives of a very bad vibe, and you can almost feel the ghostly activity. Scary Dairy is a cool place to check in the day, but when night falls it is probably the scariest place to be, considering the amount of rooms and gang activity

------------------------------------------

The Dairy was once a part of Camarillo State Hospital (part of the state mental health program) at one point in time.
It burned down, and was never rebuilt. There is a large barn that remains mostly intact, and the rubble of some
stone buildings remain as well.

The County Parks Department has posted a “No Entry” without special permit sign. The park has become a paint
ball, model airplane flying zone and a party haven, so entry and parking on University Drive (off Lewis Rd. N of
CSUCI – originally called Old Dairy Road) are restricted. Police have cited numerous cars that park illegally at the
University Drive entrance and some have found, driving in when the gate is open can result in a locked gate when
you try to leave. So best to find legal parking or be prepared to hike a bit further, and realize that this is now a "gray
area" as far as access. The County is planning at least 2 full-size golf courses here: the 16,000 outdoor
amphitheater is on hold for now so the dairy’s history and future are numbered.

Being at the dairy near dusk is really scary. It is the feeling of being watched that really gets to you. When The Association for Retarded was near the site we workers used to take the clints on feild trips to the dairy....

I have been going to the "scary dairy" since 1972.  The large hay barn that dominates the area always induces a sense of awe. It is a masterpiece of erector- set engineering that I've dreamed of dismantling (could be done), and taking it to some property in Hawaii. Back in the days when it still was covered, upon entering, I felt like I was walking into a cathedral. For years there was an owl that roosted up in the top corner and I'm sure he had no problem staying fat on all the rabbits and gophers that populate the area.
To the east of the barn is a long concrete strip that was the feed trough. I've counted the separate feed slots and it looks like they fed about 400-500 head of cattle at one time. There is a sump at the low end so they could hose of the manure.
The walls that remain housed the milking barn. There is a wash down area in front. then the dairy the cows were then let into the milking stalls. The stalls had feed bins so the the cows could munch away while being milked. the rooms in the back were for processing the milk. It had to be pasteurized then the cream separated, then put in a cooled room. The upper rooms probable were the offices.    I don't know where the slaughtering took place but I wouldn't thing it would be housed with the milking process.
Some of the outer structures are still a mystery to me. I think the cement area to the left of the road before you get to the barn might have been horse stalls, for surely they had to have a few horses to ride herd on that many cattle. Further up the road and around the bend are some separate stalls where they might have kept the mating bulls. Then there had to be a stall or two for vet use and to inoculate cattle as needed.
I would love to have seen the dairy in it's hay day. It must have been an awesome operation.
Even though I refer to it as the "scary dairy," I have never felt any sense of foreboding while there, day or night. I can see how people's imagination could steer them to a dark place given it's association with the mental hospital and the scary sounds of the owls and coyotes that inhabit the area.  I like to think that a lot  upset and distressed people were calmed and soothed by working with the  tranquil bovines. Any populated rural place that has existed for that long has probably got some unpleasant history.
If you really want to scare yourself, continue on the road up and over the ridge and turn to the right when you get to the bottom on the other side. Keep bearing to the right and after about five or six hundred yards you will come to what I call," the haunted playground". Apparently there was a school back in there and the remains of a play ground  with rusty swings and shot up slides can be seen. Who knows what went on there. Was it a school for mentally disturbed kids? That's a place I would hesitate to spend the night. (not really)
Coyotes and rattle snakes are defiantly something to consider while there, especially if you have a dog. The coyotes can get very aggressive at times.
I will be sad to see it go to golf courses, if that is what they have planned for the  area. If that does happen, I want the barn.

Thanks for the info about parking. It`s been awhile since I`ve been to this area, but it`s one I`d like to go back to!

Sad to see all the graffiti there. I recall when there was very little, but recall there being some remarks on the remaining walls that made references to experiences others had while there.

If going there, best to go when it`s quiet. This place definitely had an ominous quality about it. I recall hearing stories in the papers and elsewhere that people (generally patients of the old hospital) had been mistreated/murdered at this location. Sad that it`s turned into a paint-ball field and a recreation area & that the county/city is thinking of turning it into a golf course. One place that definitely had some strange things happen there that seem to have continued on after the building burned down.

When I was there last, I recall trying to take notes, and it seemed like something wanted me to write other than what I was writing... VERY interesting place!

Went out to the Dairy on a hot summer day. Easy acess, no people. Found the Dairy fasinating did not sense anything weird until I went to the barn. Felt like death and dispair. Maybe someone hanged in the barn? Very heavy energy and very negative.

It would be interesting to take an investigations group out there, OR perhaps a group from here that`s serious about it to go check it out at night, although it`s pretty strange in that area during the day.. from the old State Hospital all the way through I think it`s Decker Canyon Rd.? Lots of "accidents" (cars going off cliffs, etc.) out there, so if drivng there, definitely NOT a place to drive during rain storms, but need to be careful driving there no matter what time of the year, as some curves in the road look from a distance like they go straight, and looking at the bottom of one of those areas (I think on Decker Cyn. Rd, but could have been another in the area?) there were about 8-10 cars down there on one turn alone! People have gone off the road in that area and not been found for long periods of time, which is well documented.

BTW, Does anyone know what happened to the old grave yard that was there on the old State Hospital property, which is now CSUCI? Did it get moved before they built all those condos out there?

I know the parking lot had at least 2 murders there in the late 1970`s or VERY early 1980`s. One was a man who told the shrinks there that he wasn`t OK, but they let him go, he murdered his wife in the parking lot, then walked back in and told them about it.

I also wonder what was there before the state hospital. Anyone know?

And yes, as others have stated, there is some seriously negative/angry energy around this area - in fact from here all the way to the 101 freeway in Calabasas, where I see some other posts.

It does make me wonder what was here before the state hospital. Seems like something else went on here as well.

As far as the hanging, yes, I did hear about someone hanging themselves (actually it happened quite a few times in the 1970`s & early 1980`s) there, although I`m not sure of the exact locations, or if it was actually at the "dairy."

If anyone knows the history of this area prior to the state hospital, please chime in and share with us what you know and where the info came from. I`m interested!

I went on a field trip there with a teacher for their old "Psych Tech" program through Ventura or Oxnard College, and after seeing the place and having lunch with a few of the staff people, I decided not to go through with it, and am glad I never took that career route. It`s not for everyone, and it certainly wasn`t for me!

Thanks for the info... I wonder who owns that... I *could* look up the source, but too much going on with the fires around here, etc.

Anyhow, the part about the hospital having "accreditation ratings consistently high in the 1980s and 1990s" is absolute bull pucky... The papers can attest to that, as can the funding loss that happened in the early 1980`s. I don`t know if the hospital was even open in the 1990`s (if they were, it was limited, as they had already transferred a lot of people out of there to group homes in and around Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as well as other places.)

There was a county funding meeting I attended around the 1980`s and the ONLY people who showed up to say how much the funding was needed for the hospital were those who worked there. I was there as the funding was also tied into elder care & a number of other agencies` funding were tied to that of the state hospitals`. These agencies wanted their funding separated, which is what happened & if you go back to the old newspapers from back then, you`ll find a cover story about their budget getting cut by (& I`m doing this from memory) about $2 million! They don`t do that to programs/hospitals with "high accreditation" scores! I`d gone to the hospital once with a teacher in high school who though some of us might want to become psych techs for a living... NOT my cup of tea! When we went to lunch with some of the staff and thought they were patients, I decided to look at another career. (I only wish I were kidding!)

I was there another time about a year later or two to visit a friend who`d apparently ODed on what we thought later (& it would make sense with what is known today) as "crack" or methamphetamines. We knew he was "out there" on a lib and tried to talk him out of using that crap, and I can honestly say that with what was known at the time, I think the staff did OK, but it doesn`t erase the hospital letting out people who said they were not at all ready to come out who then murdered people in the parking lot, one in particular where the guy stated to the doctors that he was NOT ready to be released and then promptly upon his release killed his wife in the parking lot, walked back in and told the docs "See, I told you I wasn`t ready! My wife is dead in the parking lot!" (there were a number of these cases in the late 1970`s and early 1980`s.)

High accreditation marks? my rear-end! They might have got them and BSed there way to get them, but that hospital was far from giving good care to the patients there in general... lobotomies were popular there at one time (c late 1960s), people who worked there got involved with patients on a very personal level (Some even later married!)

YIKES!

People should be aware of this place, they call the Scary Dairy. I am a Lic Certified Psychic and went out to the place. Did not have to go in. As my visions are felt. What happened in this so called dairy was this. It was a torture chamber for the State Hospital. Many strange human and animal experienments were done there. It holds what you call a vortex a large evil star that includes area's of Mission Oaks Blvd and the High School, Cementary. Late at night travel if you will down Mission Oaks Blvd, you will see the lights from the diary area. This is a volient and very unsafe place, to go it is not funny and should be burned down and fenced off. If anything gets built there it will not last, or will the ground grow. If you think about it why would a dairy be near a State Hosiptal, we all know that the State Hospital know University is haunted. When you take evil to people who are unable to care for themselves then evil appears. I wish we could do a ceremony for all the lost souls out there. Only until that time will scary dairy be gone. I bid you all farewell and please if you must be careful, you can bring these vortex's home with you and they want a live person. The evil came about because of the experiencments done. Animals and humans were operated on, brains examined, etc. The list is endless. The dead that cannot find there way travel to the conejo area cementary in the late eve. You can see there shawdow's and smell them. Pancho road is a road not to be travedl in the eve. Or is Portoro Road. Things have been seen there only God could understand. We want the thrill of this place, but the truth is we should leave it alone. My psychic intitition is and was very strong, my pray wand broke when I got home, I smelled oil all day. This place is sad and al alot of pain was left there, by strange doctors. Remember the State Hosp. was around before we had laws for this type of torture. May they all rest somewhere and find themselves a home. If you must go there it would be best to carry a religion based item, your religion only. Have it in plain site. I am a Hindu and when I got home my metal (ss) was tarnished black. It is a protection metal of sterling. There is another issue is Adolofo Camarillo he rides the headless horse to that area sometimes on a full moon, and he is so evil. he tortured al alot of Chumash Boys. He is a form of a vampire. Be careful walk slowly and when you feel it is time to leave leave. Peace and blessings crystal butterfly

I have always been facinated with this place. Due to the reconstruction going on over the past few years it has been hard to obtain un-noticed access to the still remaining mainly untouched areas of what used to be the Camarillo Mental Hospital. I was fortunate to gain access to a few of the buildings yesterday afternoon. While most of the rooms are in the reconstruction process you kind of have to let your imagination tell you the story of this place. Just walking through this place, while not in its original state is still untouched enough in some parts that you feel your standing in history. For the most part my venture was uneventful. I guess the hype of the location starts you out a bit nevous of what you may encounter, which could then leave you feeling empty if you come across nothing. However if you go in with a thrist for history and let you mind wonder its as eventfull as you make it. It was erry walking the corrador alone, even while in the middle of the day not much light comes in the dirt covered windows. There are many animal footprints as well as human/shoe prints on the floors as the place in covered with dirt from some 20 years. Most prints are from people working on fixing up the place. But some are from explorers like me who dared to take the venture through the corrador. I took over 70 pictures in my hour long walk through which only covered about one building (Block 39/42) However I did happen upon one area where I feel...different. UNIT 25-AWOL RISK UNIT. From the entrance door you feel...something. Im not sure I believe in psychic abilities and I would take the addage that well anything is possible if your willing to beleive. I didnt see any Ghosts so to speak but I did feel different and I did hear things. Not screams just sounds! Its truely a remarkable place.  I am strating my own reseach project on the property as it has always facinated me. Im afraid if I dont go threr now to experience this place and what it may have to offer I may never get the chance. You see as ALWAYS happend here in Calli ..our way of "preserving" a historic place is to gut it and change all but the outside and use it for soemthing that will make someone money. While I understand that process it doesnt leave anything for my future child to discover. That saddens me. So Im researching for them since they will never have the opportunity. As this place will be completely re-done by the time I even have children. I have been to the "diary" area before. I have only seen the area which holds the remineces of the old building which has now been turned into a party central for the lowlifes of our community. It is still majestic however as it still has the furnce in one of the rooms. It is now hard to access this area as well due to the scum of the area using it as a party/dump. Becuase of this the main entrance which you used to be able to drive in is now locked to try to detour punks. You can still legally access the area just be prepared for a long walk...not hard just long... I am hoping ot take more trips to both places to document the areas before they are completely gone, so to speak.

the hindu guy needs to slow his roll on some of his statements. unless he was born and raised in the area, as i was, he would realize that all these negative experiences are influenced by those seeking the negative and that there are plenty of native american points of interest in the same general area that are overshadowed by the dairy. some of the areas he spoke of, not including the actual dairy where i'm sure foul things happened back in the day and recent years, are not negative. the natural environment is evidence of where to go and where not to go. i'm sure the bright ones will understand what i mean. and the shadows he talks about walking to the so-called "conejo cemetery" in the late evenings was probably just me with my BB gun hunting rabbits and coons all my years growing up or it could have been some of the escapees that were often caught roaming around the agricultural fields. the focus is on the dairy and state hospital properties, not the whole town! whatever actually went on at the dairy was not good. common sense would suggest that even if there was no haunted history. there's always plenty of negative at any mental facility.

whatever supposed evil is present at the old state hospital site and current CSUCI, will likely be overshadowed by a new proposal by the state. camarillo seems to be a favorite site for correctional/rehab type facilities. maybe its the great weather, or peaceful pacific coast atmosphere or the view of the fertile agricultural lands or all mentioned. a new mental prison is now going to be built on top of the former youth prison. this mental prison should be a heck of a lot more negative than the old state hospital ever was. not only that, it could de-value the rich spanish hills estates!

I went to Scary Dairy on a ghost hunt with my team last month. We pulled up and parked at the gate at dusk. The hike in took a lot longer than expected. I'll admit that the looming barn was an unnerving sight as it seemed to be watching our approach. We arrived at the barn just as the sun was dropping behind the horizon. Nothing strange to report. When we got to the main facility, the sun was gone. We searched every room with flashlights. It's creepy and a big spider plopped on my face, causing me to d a little "get this thing off of me" dance, but again, nothing strange to report. We decided to search for the foundation of the other smaller building that had once stood a little ways away from the main structure. We hiked up the dirt road in the blackness of the evening and found the foundation. It's only about a 5 minute walk. Along the walk, we thought we started hearing voices coming from the barn area. It caused us to stop and listen multiple times, but every time we decided it was out imagination. From the vantage point at the separate foundation, we could clearly see the barn, the road, and the main structure lit by moonlight. We hung out for a while, but nothing strange happened. the scariest part of Scary Dairy, was the walk home, only because we could hear fleets of coyotes yelping at what couldn't have been any further than 50 yards away from us into the tall grass. All in all the trip was fun, but not the paranormal-ridden experience I had expected. It might have just been a slow night in the spirit world. my dad used to take the whole family to BBQ out there. Never stayed till night. It would scare me to be alone, and that was way befor I found out that it WAS scary dairy. My mother also worked in the hospitol, she quit about a year befor it shut down. She would always tell us to stay close cuz they don't always find everyone that escapes. I have seen recent pics of it, web I was younger the barn was more complete. I remember these hooks and chains and belts hanging from the vary top. That barn would always scare me the most. We went up this very tall latter in there once and found a very old very dirty mattress, and what I hope to this day was not dry blood. Every one says it's a long walk, I remember driving down this road by a river or canal, parking, crossing the cannal and a short walk to it. You get to the house befor the barn.

I have been there serveral times. When I first went years ago I just drove in

I know you can't do that now unless you have the key. Have things changed? Can you drive in there now?

Thanks

yes, its still there, both scary dairy and a significant amount of the mental hospital. I went there with a couple friends last night and I can legitimately say I had the scariest night of my life. I heard and saw so many things that scared all of us, and my friends actually found a way inside the hospital. They found a medicine room and a shower room and it really is frightening. We heard a lot of footsteps, a lot of chains, moaning, loud and unmistakable knocking, and other stuff. I sat alone on the grass while my friends went inside at one point and heard someone running towards me only to find no one there. Honestly, I don't expect to be believed, so really, go there yourself, it's definitely worth it.

I will be going there soon If anyone is interested... I have been there many times and on the last occasions have had much paranormal activity.. ex.. If u enter from the front (crossing the river on the pipe) there is a pentagram drawn in blood on the right entrance that I drew back in 2000 to lock the spirits I felt in... Always enter on the left side, otherwise you are welcoming the spirits and allowing them to detect your presence. Last time I was there, I was with about 20 people and 1 person (the comedian in the group) decided to enter through the door I had sealed with a pentagram and thought it was funny... Not 10 minutes later, he was seen running scared directly towards the barn screaming about an elderly gentleman who had said it was safe.. Needless to say, we had to stop him (especially since I knew the barn was THE LAST PLACE HE NEEDED TO BE).. Once he relaxed, we started walking back when out of the corner of our eye, we see a shadow run from the back of the entrance to the rising brush, it Stops then abruptly vanishes into thin air..... Immediately following that, a feeling of dread came over me and all around me I felt a presence urging me to leave. Since I was solely responsible for all of those in attendance I knew that I had to trust my instincts and get everyone out of there.... I dont consider myself a psychic but I have always been able to sense, feel, and communicate with energy around me.. I am well informed in demonology and know how to protect myself from attacks. anyone is interested in meeting up for a visit, please email me at djliquide805@yahoo.com

The dairy is scary, but I didn't experience any hauntings there. I was able to tour the hospital during the college construction. Check out the old childs ward if you have a chance, I didn't experience myself, but heard it is scary. My experiences in the old mechanics shed and the hospital floors itself were frightening. Made me a believer. I am here looking for students/facilty that have experienced the same things. It would be a shame if they tore down the dairy, sort of a Camarillo icon.

I am actually scared to go down to Scary Dairy.. my sister lives in Channel Islands which is close to it. We we're about to go down there, it was in the sunlight, but I was still scared. I was in the car and my sister got out to go and try to open the gate to drive down there.. I was listening to music on the radio and all of a sudden it just shut off. I got a VERY VERY creepy vibe and so did my sister because she came running back to the car, we did not want to go to the dairy after this because this was enough for us. As I have heard and read, I would stay away from this place.. driving accidents going down there have been unexplained, also crying, yelling, screaming, footsteps, bad vibes and other paranormal activities happen down there.

I went to scary dairy last night and I must say it was a frekin creepy experience it was dark when we got there and there were alot of people but one experience I had was on the trail behind the main house with all the room, we were walking down the trail to see if there was anything else we could see and I heard someone walking next to me dragging there feet but no one was there I jumped and ran on the other side of a friend that was next to me he laughed and said he heard it too, and a few times I heard some moaning and noises from the brush alongside the trail... the barn had an  ominous feeling it felt very heavy and sad. Definately a great place to visit if your up for it!

So, I have been there several times. Is it any easier during the day to get in there?

I know you couldn't drive in there unless the gate was open and if there was a model airplane activity going on. I would like to go this Friday during the day with some photogs.

Thanks

Rick

I'd be down to go. I live in Camarillo but have no idea where it is. I actually really want to do a photoshoot up there. I'm not superstitious I just want the location for a shoot.

Please let me know if you would like to go with me or could help me out with directions.

This is surrounded by corporate farmlands and the 4000 students plus who knows how many faculty and staff...get over it people. I used to drive Potrero Rd everyday to get to school at CSUCI and often took "LUGUNA" Rd as one put it to get out to the beach. I took classes both during the day and at night for 2 years...nothing ever happened. The noises at Scary Dairy are just a bunch of dirty gang bangers from South Oxnard.

I've been to Scary Dariy twice. Once in the Day time which was nothing out of the ordinary and then at night which was kinda spooky.

I didn't see anything but I did hear things... Footsteps, voices, and what not, I was pretty freaked out and left pretty quickly... all my friends laughed at me for being scared... but i knew they heard it too because they were running to the car just as fast as I was.

It was fun and I think i'll go back for halloween this year. Let me know if anyone wants to get a group together!

I heard about this place over 2 years ago, and I've been waiting to go since. However, a friend and I found time to go, and yes, I believe the place is worth it. However, I wished we knew exactly where is was, but hey we found it. Anyway, first thing we saw was the barn, which was kinda creepy, but as we went inside the barn, it wasn't bad at all. Then we saw the hospital, which really startled me when I first saw it. I could sense a creepy vibe aside from all the graffiti and a boat [wtf?] leaning on the building. We went inside and took a few pictures, but then we heard a scratching sound. We looked in the direction of the source of the sound, and nothing was there, yet the sound continued. We got outside, and the noise stopped. I knew something creepy was there, as did my friend. But it was worth it and maybe I'll return someday.

oh yeah, here it is: on the 101 [northbound], exit lewis rd [hwy 34], turn right off the exit, make another right so you'll be heading south on lewis rd. [when diaz88 and i went, there was serious traffic early on due to road construction, so bring a book to read if traffic's bad. it will be slow. anyway, keep going til you get to universtiy. hang a right. keep going til you cross a little bridge over a creek. you'll see a gate and a sign that says camarillo regioinal park. follow the trail eastbound [on foot] and you'll see the barn. go a lil further and you'll see the hospital. now be warned if you go st night your car can be towed away if you park right by the entrance. if you can find a close parking spot, let us know, being we had to park at CSUCI for 6 bucks.

I have been there a few times. But I would have to say that the scariest time was one night with a few friends. We decided to go around 2 a.m. The gate was opended. (someone probably forgot to close it) Anyways, we drove in. Pulled up next to the barn, and started exploring. Looking for anything unusual. I stood exactly in the middle of the barn and looked up. I immidiatly got a strange vibe. Like I shouldn't be there or something..Who knows. We then began into the actual dairy. It was extremely dark. I walked into the "slaughter room" where it is believed that people were murdered there. Right then we all heard some sort of loud bang. Almost as if someone through something against the wall. That deffinently shocked us all. Then we searched all around the outside of the dairy. Nothing too strange around that time. But....Something did not want us there. It was just one of those vibes where you know your not supposed to be there. Lastly, we walked backed to the truck, and as we were walking away we heard sort of a scream/moan. Not very clear.

I would just like to say this to everyone that wants to go there...Dont get your hopes up. It is very creepy at night don't get me wrong, BUT somethings may not happen. Maybe it was just a night of very high energy. Who really knows. If you do go, have fun and be very safe! Lots of gang activity is out there. Bye! <3

Are you people serious? I went there with some friends about a week ago, and there was absolutely no "ghostly" vibe. The only thing that was troublesome was the smell of paint from the graffiti melting in the sun. KTHXBAI XD

The land is now owned by CSUCI and is called CSUCI Regional Park. It is open from I believe 7 am to 7 pm, you can park by the yellow gate and walk or bike back to the "scary dairy". I am taking a class based on ecological restoration and this is one of the projects we talk about (mainly restoring the natural flood waters of the Calleguas Creek that runs throught the park). I just went back there a couple days ago, it is a beautiful area! Nothing too scary but old abandoned buildings always seem to have a funky vibe. Great place to take some pictures! Enjoy

The old Camarillo State Hospital and Dairy, isn't haunted or mystic at all.  As a Kid growing up in the 60's and 70's, the Dairy site was just an old burnt down abandon dairy, The barn was still there.  They used to have "Turkey Shoots" out there, and give away frozen turkeys and cash as prizes before Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We did hunt in that area for rabbits, doves, and quail. There was no "Gang Activity" or murders or suicides, out there either.  The Sheriff's Deputies and California Highway Patrol always patroled the area for drunk high school kids, high school drinking parties, and weirdos, (who thought they were a sorcerer, sorceress, wizard, enchanter, enchantress and so on).  The barn was home to an Owl and if you went out there after dark, with friend, you could scare the hell out of them, by thowing a rock on the barn roof and getting the owl to skreech!  And in the dark, that owl sounded like the devil himself.

I went to the Scary Dairy last year with a couple of other people. I can't really say for sure whether or not we experienced any paranormal activity, but what happened was interesting. We bought a bunch of cheap flashlights from the dollar store and made our way onto the property. We walked around the building, but nothing much happened. Then, my sister went off to explore the area on her own, only to return moments later thoroughly spooked, claiming to have heard footsteps coming from the ceiling. We eventually made our way into the hallway and sat down, turning our lights off and settling down to smoke. After several moments, we began to hear a light metal banging noise outside. I noted it, and everyone else fell silent. It grew louder and faster until we decided to investigate. The moment that we made our way down the hall, it abruptly stopped. While it could have been somebody messing with us, we saw no signs of anyone else in the area, and I doubt that anybody could have moved around quietly in the dark without a flashlight.
