very very very creepy place even in broad day light u walk by the place and u get the willies, i dont not suggest trying to enter the grounds as it is now used to the metropolitan mounted police brigade, usin it to train and house theyre horses, and security is like fort knox including laser sencors and vibratin sensors all over the grounds. but in the evening if u drive by u can see people staring out multipul windows when know ones there.

I went in there last night for almost 6 hourse, we found a way on the prperty, and came across a group of like 6 others so they joined us. we entered threw a broken window in a dorm building. we saw orbs and small hints of light in the corners. we enterd one storage room and as we opened the door, all the papers on the ground were moving like someone had just blown a leafblower in the room. and then in the tunnel a girl in or caravan tripped and fell into water, but when she looked at her hand the water was very red tinted and thicker then water should be...honestly it looked like wateredown blood. and we passed a small chair in one tunnel and as we got farther away we heard it moving across the floor, toward us. we went in around 11pm and exited out of a different dorm on otherside of property at about 5am. over all not to freaky, exept when something happened. the worst part was reading the files from the hospital building. they did horrible things to the people who stayed there...

your an idiot... there are no sensors, if they do have sensors they obviously dont care about people sneaking into it because ive been there several times but i can only get into the tunnels and the large building in the center, and the powerhouse. other than that you would need bolt cutters to open up the other buildings

Central state hospital is a very creepy place inside and out, no doubt about it. But what you people are experiencing is not what you want it to be. I have a paranormal investigation group, P.I.O.T., paranormal investigations and observations team, and we have been to every single building on the grounds, including bahr before it was taken over by police, before we go in, we say a prayer, and we always wear respirator masks, every one of us, we have had some wild experiences you have to see to believe, if i told you it wouldnt matter because you wouldnt believe me, but we are always looking for more people interested in the paranormal and wanting to be in a group who do these and more investigations on the weekends, contact Brent Groce, at 728-0550, or Skyler Johnson at 439-1565, we are the admins of P.I.O.T, and we ARE looking for recruits for the team, requirements will be discussed over the phone. Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Stay Frosty!/Semper Fidelis!

I worked there in the late 1950's and transported patients in the under ground tunnels, I never saw a ghost nor heard any stories about them......it seems the ghost stuff started after it shut down, if every a place should be haunted, it would be that place which is mostly gone now, only a few building remain...the place was filled with saddest and you felt it the minute your walked in the grounds, it has a sad history.

I believe there are some things going on. A local author is writing a book about the history of the mental hospital.

my father worked there as a security guard up untill it closed and he had to walk the tunnels and would come home telling us of the noises he heard crying, yelling, chains banging, doors closing, people talking, and moaning.

people have been getting busted out there by the cops. It is unsafe and illegal to go in the buildings. It's going to be torn down this year.

I've been here alot and been inside the tunnels and buildings. It's scary the first few times but after that, its no big deal. You are allowed on the grounds and most buildings are open due to the windows broken open.

dude i got pics from that place...if anyone thinks this place is not haunted ur wrong...i hold a proof and this happened just a couple day ago...i've never fled a building that fast in my life...toke a pic of a hallway and nothing was in it but a hallway, exactly one minute later i toke a pic of the same hallway where nothing was visible by eye but the screen sure in as hell showed something more than just a hallway...i would have to say that was one of the creepiest moments in my life.

we are going next weekend. How hard is it to get in at night without security getting you? And are the tunnels pretty spooky?

Hi, I have been there several times and know how to get into the tunnels easliy.  There are cops so you have to be very sneaky and dont keep your flashlights on around windows. Its a very creepy place dont go unless you are prepared to to see and hear very strange things. Email me if interested

i've been there a few times and have only witnessed one incident -- during the day a door closed behind us for no apparent reason. have been in administation building, took pictures and artifacts and been in 2-3 of the dorms. never been in tunnels, but heard things down in them...would love to go back but have heard cops are checking it more often and will arrest because of trespassing.

this place is awesome.  Last time i went at 2 am with just my friend and found a group of 12 kids. Two of the them really knew the how to navigate the area.  Most boarded entrances to the Evans or Bolton don't last very long. The whole idea of police patrolling the property is only the paranoia I've experience. Mostly its just random cars driving within the area that i usually try avoid being seen by but as long as your not walking dirty you shouldn't be too worried. Once your inside one of buildings you'll feel slightly safer anyways. if you plan on going bring a flash light and boots (dust mask would be smart too)

my great grandfather was a doctor at cenral state in the twenties. he always loved to talk about his life but he always refused say a word about what exactly he did at the hospital. he later worked at eli lilly overseeing various tests on animals. our family has always wondered if he did sort of the same thing at central state. whatever he did, he took to the grave with him last year.

I Worked there in the mid seventies through the mid eighties, 74-85 and had keys to the Administration building and Bolton and Evans Dorms, I Worked 3rd Shift, Night Shift Security and would check the doors to make sure they were locked.  There was a Gentleman a Patient named Alvin who wandered off one night and  supposedly died at Central State in a Crawl Space In one of the tunnels many many years ago and that crawl space was there when I Worked There and No doubt is still there and so is Alvin's Spirit, You Can Feel It in Parts Of The Tunnel closest to the crawl space, it feels as if someone is standing very close to you and you can feel him breathing very calm, very still, He is there and always will be along with thousands of other poor unfortanate souls from the past.

Mental Illness Is A Terrible, Terrible Thing That Should Never Ever Be Made Light and Or Made Fun Of As In So Naming Someone Who Has Mental Illness "Simple Minded" Or "Retarded".  It Is Small Wonder Why Such Places,..Asylums Such As Dixmont, Danvers State and Or Central State Hospitals (Asylums) are So To Speak "Haunted",..Just Recalling The Agony The Patients Had Gone Through and Sometimes Used As Human Experiments,..Not Being Cured Of Their Illness But Basically Being Closed Up,..Locked Up and Tried For What Ever Illness They Possibly Were Born With.   Such A Sad,..Sad Situation To Be In With No One To Turn To For Help.

I have been there for the past couple of days without any issues, just don't be an idiot about it. Very cool, got some amazing photos, the tunnels were cool. I've been in almost all of the buildings, a few more to go and my card is stamped.

I've been inside central state a couple times . My name is even written on one of the stair case hall ways . When I was there I felt like something was coming over me , and it was pretty intense . I strongly believe in the paranormal after going to that place so many times . The last time I went , me and my boyfriend Mike were in the basement and we BOTH heard something behind us and turned around . Most scared I've ever been in my life .

That was the scariest place I have ever been to in my life! I will never go again woooow... Iv been smacked in the face by hanging wires hard enough it stung, heard moans in tunnels, and too much more...
A cop actually pulled up to patrol while we was inside and we tried to find the exit where we entered but the doorway we came in from just kept takng us in a circle so we had no choice but to go out into the garden thing where its squared off and we all were sitting still waiting to hear the cop come inside and look for us, but fortunately he didnt but we kept hearing someone walk around right next to us and the crunching of the leaves, a sound echoing of a spoon tapping off a piece of metal, and the sounds of a chainsaw... (that part did me in I got up went back inside found my way out n dipped)
I was even seeing things even after I left for a couple weeks...

I was there in the middle of October, 2012. I went into the Admin building (The one that has "Volia" written on the outside).

You feel very uneasy when you go down into the basement because it is completely pitch dark, I was using a flashlight to see where I was going. The rooms on the upper floor have windows, so you would feel better seeing the light coming in.

I noticed some comments (very far back though, around 2008) of users taking pride in breaking windows and trashing the place. The entire building has asbestos, so throwing things around is pretty stupid, you're going to cause all the fibers and particles to spread in the air, then you're going to breath it all in, this can cause serious health problems later on in life.

Google asbestos, if you don't know what they are.
