This is the home of the headstone with a chain link that grows each year. The stone has been replaced numerous times, but the chain just keeps appearing. The story goes that the chain represents the love of a man that was in the army and his girlfriend that waited for him. They were going to get married before he left, but his parents kept them from seeing each other and from getting married when they heard about the news. He went off to the war and she waited for him even though that they couldn`t be together. The guy was killed in the war and they brought his body back here for a proper burial. The young girl attended the funeral, but she stood across the road and watched it from a distance. They say that today you can see the chain glow at night, and sometimes during the day you can see the young lady dressed in black standing on the other side of the road watching the funeral.

-Similar story from same location

A slave owner from the 1800`s beat one of his slaves to death with a logging chain. The wife of the slave had a local shaman put a curse on the slave owner. The curse was that he would bear the reminder of his murder for eternity. After he was buried, a chain appeared on his tombstone, and every year another link is added. It is located at a church called Bonds Chapel which still holds services. It is actually about five miles south (as the crow flies) from Huron.

I grew up in this area of indiana. There are many different versions of the story of bonds chapel. The grave with the links really is there, and no one knows how they get there. Also there is a story that if you touch the links you will die in car accident. I`ve touched them many times and I`m still here. There is just something not right about the whole area of bonds chapel...Very creepy place!

I believe you mean it's in Orangeville. I live in Orleans and while we are small, we're still the 2nd biggest town in Orange County, but technically Bond's Chapel is in Orangeville which is a little nothing town between Orleans and Paoli. I've also heard that during the day, you can see a girl in black across the street. They say she is the widow of the man killed. I've also heard that the chain is a sign of undying love after the man was killed in war and the woman in black in there at the funeral, that she never actually attended considering that her deceased husbands family did not like her so she stayed across the road during the funeral./

I`ve never heard the story of the chain, just heard about the chain itself. My sister was telling me about it. She`s been there several times, and the chain has been different. She was always told that if you rub the chain you will die in 7 years (everyone that I know has told me the same story about that!) Although she rubbed it like 15 years ago, so that part may be superstition... But the fact the chain is there is true. And i can`t wait to go see it.

I`m pretty sure it`s not in Paoli though, but in Orleans... Which is a little bitty nothing of a town off of Paoli....

I've been thinking about making the trip up there to check it out, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.  Knowing that there's people who actually claim that the chain on the grave is there is a bit of an incentive I guess...

The trip there will definately be worth it. It is in orleans. My parents have seen the chain since they were children. My mom used to take me out there, and I've seen it many times. It has been at least 10 years since I was there last, but everytime I've been on that road something weird has happened....

I grew up in the area and have seen the tombstone many times. That whole area is very strange. My friend lived on a farm on the road where bond's chapel is and very strange things would happen there. At night you would hear the sounds of feet running around upstairs and his house had a strange glow almost as if it was glowing in the dark.

I also grew up in the area. As a kid and even an adult have been to the tombstone many times. It still gives me the creeps. Have taken my kids to the site and scared the daylights out of them. There used to be a white van that would drive by when we visited it to add the story.
