I took a tour last summer and plan to spend the night this spring. It's $50 per person and you must have at least 5 people. The heating is provided by space heaters only so if it's cold out, they will not let you in... presumably because they're afraid of burning down their source of income. Fun place though. Will let everyone know more as things progress.

The murders occurred in 1912. Most households in the midwest that were in small towns or rural areas did not have electricity or indoor plumbing. Those were things that belonged in city homes. The entire Moore family, father, mother, and their four children were murdered as they slept. The other two children, Lena and Ina Stillinger, were murdered downstairs in the sewing room. It is believed that they heard the noise and were trying to get away when they were killed. The murderer left slabs of bacon in each room that a murder victim lie in. He also cooked and ate breakfast before leaving. The mirrors and windows were all covered, and the victims were covered with daytime clothing. A LOT of activity has been recorded here. There are numerous EVP's and videos of activity. $50 per person for a group of 5 is not much for an overnight. From what I understand, it is well worth it. Waverly Hills, in Louisville, Kentucky, charges $100 per person for an 8 hour overnight.

So did they ever catch the killer? Does anyone know why the family was killed? Seems like a lot af details are being left out of this story-can anyone fill in the blanks?

I've spent the night there 3 times and we are planning another trip in October! It's insane and definitely a must for any ghost hunter. It's 60 bucks now per person. No the killer was never caught. They have lots of ideas of why the family was killed but no one knows for sure. It is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of our time.

There were many occupants after the murdered family. Through the years, electricity and indoor plumbing was added to the house. The house then sat empty for over a decade. A neighboring farmer bought the house and restored it back to the period of the murders, as a tourist attraction.

The killer has not been caught, of course is dead now! It happened in 1912. There are many stories about who it might have been, no one knows... at least no one will tell if they do know!

For the overnight the cost is $300.00 for 5 people anyone after that there is an additional fee. You stay in the home the whole night ALONE, NO TOUR GUIDE!! The fee to go during the day and visit is $10.00 per person.

The house is NOT the Museum, the Museum is downtown, follow the signs. The tour guide will meet you there, let you look around, then follow him/her to the Cemetary, then to the house. You will have a guided tour, then he/she will leave you to look around yourself.

Crazy things happen! Its a wonderful yet tragic place!!

It seems to be one axe murder of many happening from Colorado to NY in that time period. All happened in railroad towns on the weekend, except one. All contained children. Best suspects seem to be Henry Lee Moore, Andy Sawyer, Henry Whipple and Charles Mansfield. Some are said to be hit jobs put on by prominent politicians. Whoever it was knew train schedules and how to escape detection even while attacking people during the day in neighboring houses....or else the killer had help...

and they had a similar m/o. all were struck in the face and covered with clothes. all had cloth over the mirrors and mirrors; even the telephone in one. I don't think the meat was found in all rooms. just one. the lamps were all set on the floor. sometimes the chimney was removed. it seems the killer changed his clothes after the murder and made sure the scene was spotless. it is hard to uncover evidence to this day since the scene was contaminated by neighbors before the police arrived. we are left to speculate..

I think the killer got something out of destroying the faces since one wack would have killed the victims. He seemed to keep going post mortem. I think he stood on the bed during the attacks and kept one foot or knee on the victim..He was similar to the Ripper in that sense but only the faces..RIP poor souls...

There was a rash of axe murders in that period, especially across the midwest. Yes, they all had similar MO's, and happened in railroad towns. I live only 15 minutes from where another murder occurred, and the same types of things occurred there. However, it was a married couple, and no children were involved. Sadly, the house is gone now, so no investigating is possible. Check out Miller's Paranormal Research's page for info about one possible theory surrounding these murders.

I've been to the villisca house with two of my friends, after standing in the house for a few min. we all got this really sick feeling, but none of us mentioned it until we walked back outside to get some lanterns. We were in there for a while, it's $10 before 5pm, and $20 after that, $300 to spend the night. We didn't see anything on the video, didn't see anything on the camera, didn't see anything there. But when we listened to the EVP later on we heard a lot of crazy shit!! Whisteling, a man's voice, a little girl whispering "LENA", and much more. I'd say it's worth the money. I don't think that there is an age limit, I mean we didn't get ID'd or anything.

Villisca is definitely worth visiting! The man who gives the tour does a great job of explaining all that is known about the murders. He gives you a tour of the house and lets you explore. My 2 friends and I had a couple significant experiences. We were told the kids liked to play games, and one of my friend shorts got pulled down. Insane.. The kids like to roll and bounce balls, too. It was totally worth the time and money.

My friends and I are spending the night in the house on Nov. 28th. We will have EVP recorders, night vision lights, and an EMF detector. Which rooms are the most active?

I would simply like to say that anyone who visits this house - Please be mindful of your manners and try to show some respect for the dead while inside the home. Remember, these people tragically lost their lives in that home. It's their death place. It's the place where all their hopes and dreams of a good life were snuffed out. The children didn't even have a chance. I've seen a lot of disgusting acts via videos in that house from "investigators" and it makes me sick to see them carrying on like their at a party i.e. foul language, laughing and joking around, being loud and rude. Remember, this is a memorial to the Moore family, please keep this in mind and show respect for the dead. One day, we will all be there and I'd like to be able to say to JB that I respected his family home, and honored his life. What will you be able to say?

Thank you in advance.
