Location Description:

The Alma Cemetery is haunted for two reasons. One is the people who are buried there and refuse to leave. Some pictures have been taken during the night up there. (It`s the best time.) The pictures were unbeleivable, there were orbs and mist figures in the pictures. Reason two is the legend of the Devil`s Chair. The story is that in the 1800s a real old mean farmer owned the land that is now the cemetery. About that same time Alma was being built. Towns officials had been trying to get him to sell his land so they could use it for the new town`s cemetery. But he kept refusing to sell it. One day while at his well getting water someone came up from behind him and pushed him into the well. Than about a week later the town officials come out to the farm to try and to get him to sell again. And one of them noticed a smell from the well. The sheriff said it was nothing and ordered for the well to be boarded and locked and that no one is suppose to talk about. So the farmers land became the town`s cemetery. Than in the 1980s some teens decided to go out there and see if they can see the ghost of the old man. One of the teens dared another to sit on top of the closed well. The teen did as he was dared, but suddenly the group heard a sound behind them and turned to see what it was and there was nothing there. So when they turned around to see if there friend was still sitting there. But he wasn`t. Thinking that it was a joke he was playing they left and figured they`d see him tomorrow. But the teen was never seen again. Over the years there have been other stories of people sitting on the Devil`s Chair and never being seen again. Some people say that it`s the farmer reaching through the now old rotted broken boards and getting revenge on the town that took his land away from him. People call it the Devil`s Chair because the man was evil when he was alive and is still evil after death.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	Been there and going back. Cemetary is not hard to find. The locals will tell you where it is. Its to the right when coming in from the highway. I did not take pics but will next time. I've read more than once about the Alma cemetary. I believe its probably got mist figures and orbs. I sure as HELL wouldn"t sit on the well. Which I didnt notice when there before. lol What cha got to lose? Seriously, its been written up many times. Its probably real. I can let you know soon. Think I'll be going soon. You must photograph this stuff, as most is NOT seen by the naked eye. Please do a search on how to conduct a paranormal investigation. angel_in_hell Last Seen: 10/28/2012 8:24:59 PM	Well, normaly Locals will report these hauntings. Since the Locals are the ones to report the hauntings, they know exactly where everything is....... Personally, I would suggest going to Alma Kansas and asking the locals. I`m sure they would tell you. However, finding the "Devils Chair" or the well is a completly different story. You`d have to walk through the entire Cemetery until you find something. I did some reseach and it was mentioned that there is a well with a board on top, but there is a hole in the middle of the board and you can see all the way down.... It was also mentioned that the chair is nearly impossible to find..... However, this "haunt" seems more of an urban legend to me... If you ever find it, take pictures and post them here. :—)

Lately I`ve been really busy, but once I have time again I will get back to trying to hunt down the addresses to the posted Kansas haunts. I also try to find pictures of the locations when I can.

AnonymousVisiter V -	Ok, the cemetery, or atleast 1 of them, is located west of alma with devil's chair nearby. if u really want the exact location i can ask my mom, ive lived in alma all 20 years of my life and i know for a fact my friends have been there. if u take K10 highway west out of alma, you'll hit an old cowtown thats really just old buildings now, called volland. there's also 3 more cemeteries out there including my family cemetery. i got some potential haunted places in volland, i'm gonna check them tomorrow night hopefully. if you really truely want the destinations lemme know. dc_nations@hotmail.com or just post wat u want here and i'll check back after i call home.

The high school and cemetery in Alma are the most rumored haunts in Wabaunsee at least, although there are a couple other places in the area that are historically strange and spooky as well. grvechsr Last Seen: 9/18/2008 7:02:13 PM	Okay, someone help us!!!! My roommate and I have been fascinated with the story of the Devil's Chair since I found mention of it a few months ago. We went yesterday (July 4, 2008) and made a special trip to Alma and I feel really dumb! Where exactly is this cemetery? I've done research (picture taking) for a lady many years ago of family members buried in the combined Holy Family/St. John's/Alma City Cemeteries on the west side of town. Is this where the Alma Cemetery is located or is there another cemetery we couldn't find?? I swear we drove every single road of that town 4-5 times yesterday and finally gave up in frustration. I hoped to find "some old local" that I felt comfortable talking to, who wouldn't think I was a kook! My roommate WANTS to sit on the chair, and we came home disappointed. Anyone that can help, give me exact directions and I swear, we'll go back tomorrow!!!

AnonymousVisiter ** US	the Devils Chair is up the farthest east road... go up that road till u hit the curve. Its in the brushes there.. go in the day time first so u know exactly where its at.. Its covered with a bored and there is a hole in the center.. i might b going there this weekend if i can get some friends to go with me!! It is in the St John's cemetery.

gmoney Last Seen: 8/1/2010 10:54:09 AM	We found the devils chair at the alma cemetery. We took photos that I will try to put on. Its pretty easy to find. First thing you need to know is that its called St Johns cemetery. One cemetery is on one side of the road and the other half is on the other side of the road. Go to the west side cemetery take the road that runs north/south direction. This road is the second to the last road in the cemetery on the west side of the cemetery. As you drive North on that road it will turn to the right. Stop before the turn. Get out of your car and walk from the turn back south. Half way from where the tree line stops you will see a path and about 7 feet in you will see the devils chair. There is 2 boards covering it and there is a hole in the middle of the boards. We found it in the day time and then went back at night to investiagate. We found nothing. I sat on the "chair" alone without being pulled in. We took a bunch of photos with no orbs. We felt no cold spots. We laid a flashlight on the well for a couple hours and tried to get the old man to move the light or shut it off with no luck. It was actually quite peaceful. This is the second time at the devils chair and the only thing we found strange is that when you ask anyone in Alma about the Devils Chair they act like they no nothing about it. We were at the bar there and ask about it with about 7 locals there and they just got quiet, looked at eachother for a couple seconds and acted like they knew nothing. Personnely, I think its just a good story someone made up a long time ago but it was fun to investigate it.

orneriest Last Seen: 11/2/2010 5:27:37 AM	Halloween 2010 we went to visit this cemetary and find the "Devils Chair." With the help of the visitor that described how to find it, we had no trouble at all. You MUST go to the part that says St Johns lutheran cemetary. We toured the cemetary and explained why we were there. Upon dusk, the orbs became obvious, via camera. The majority of the orbs were just east and north of the "Devils Chair." There were NO orbs at the "Devils Chair" area during our investigation via dusk and very early nightfall lighting. There was a dull negitive feeling around it during daylight. Upon nightfall,especially about 1 hr after nightfall, the negitive feeling increased 1000 fold only near THAT area. We felt very welcomed by the orbs we photographed. This seemed to last for about 1 hour then we felt as though they were "done." Also, by then, the sun had fully set and the ominous feeling near the well increased. I have included photographs of this area and the orbs we encountered. I assume they are orbs as they are even colored, as I had previously read about. We will go back there again and will update with notes and photos.
