dutchbuoy Last Seen: 1/16/2008 8:04:05 PM	Kittanning was the site of a large battle during the French and Indian War. Based on accounts I`ve read there was a camp of mixed Lenapi, Susquhanock, Tuscarora indians gathered here in a fort under a leader named Captain Jacob. They were suspected of raiding white settlements and the Governor authorized Colonel Armstrong and six hundred men to attack the fort. After hiding out in a cornfield over night Armstrong surrounded the fort which "surrendered" after the powder magazine blew up! A veil is drawn over the likely aftermath (massacre) but the indians did win the colateral battle of Blanket Hill. Kittanning is just plain weird, I`m surprised it isn`t better represented here.

dutchbuoy Last Seen: 1/16/2008 8:04:05 PM	As the moderator suggests:" Please feel free to leave any and all information in the comments." I know something about Kittanning which was originally listed as a UFO site because of some "lights". As every one on this web site probably already knows "lights" have long been associated with Indian hauntings and are particularly prominent in the folklore of Appalachia. Kittanning is in the northern extension of Scots Irish frontier culture although the town proper was only established in the early 1800`s so perhaps the lights are a forgotten haunt.
