Location Description:

This cemetary is located a few miles north of state road 18 off of state road 3. If you go there, the graves date back from witch hunting periods. The graves are supposedly the graves of witches that were hunted and slain. If you walk across them one way, you will count 13 graves. When you turn around and go back, there is only 12. At this point the 13th witch causes scary hauntings, and some claim to have seen her. It is best done at night. It lies off of the highway, a gravel road that goes into a wood, on the right side of the road. Travel down a short way and you will see it on the right side of the gravel road, behind a small parking area. It used to be watched by an old man, who shot a shotgun at us while yalling for us to "get ouuuut" a long time ago, but I don`t know if he`s still there.

Hi. I`ve been to "13 graves" and it is not in Indiana. It`s in Minnesota-Actually Minneapolis/St. Paul. I was just there last weekend. I thought, at first maybe it was a coincidence but part of the story that you listed for your "13 graves" is the story behind 13 graves here in MN. ???

I went there with some friends , the one in warren.  We had heard the stories but wanted to walk it anyway. When we did walk one way there were 13 graves, and when we walked back there were 12! And instantly I turned to looked back down the line of graves and a light appeared out of the woods by a fence, and weird noises started happening were started running and it sounds like a man on a tractor chasing us , but there was nothing there.

I can't remember the exact location off the top of my head, but I know it's located in the cities in a wooded area. I know it's on this website, it's just a matter of finding it again. I'll let you know as soon as I find it.

I was there once back in the late 1980's in Mendota Heights off from the Mendota Bridge near HWY 13. I can honestly say, I counted 13 down the path and only 12 going up. From 1999 to 2006 I worked in the Cemstone building off HWY 110 near the Mendota Bridge. Their are two cemetaries near that spot. One is very old to the North of the bridge and one is very big to the East. I could only remember it was one of these cemetaries. I spent many a lunch hour trying to rediscover the path to no avail. I personally believe because of all the trespassing at night that this legend has generated that the cemetary restructured their graves. This stuff happens all the time when rodes in the cemetary need to put in and such. Bodies do get moved. So to the person who has recently visited the 13 graves please provide a bit more information. I am very interested.

I've been there... back in the 80's, and yes it is tucked back in the woods. We tried counting the grave stones, but I don't remember if we encountered the 13 one way and the 12 back like the legend says. I do remember getting to the end of the path and seeing a large stone fireplace. Beyond the path was a large abandoned building. One of the guys we were with was aware of the fact that it had been a sane asylum many years ago. I can't confirm if that was true or not, or if he was just trying to scare us. I just remember it being so strange, and dare I say, "haunted" feeling. Most of the grave stones were unmarked and rather crumbled. The thing that freaked me out the most was when my buddy used his foot to brush some snow from a grave marker to reveal an inscription that read in large lettering which read only one word... "DAMNED". I've thought about this night so many times and wondered if I could even find the spot again.

It's located on the East side of the river on River Road In between Lake Street and Franklin Avenue. Park on the side of the monisary. Then walk twards the river, you'll come to a small bridge. The graves are on a path that goes under the bridge.

Actually, I've been to the one in IN a few times, and it is creepy. A couple of miles south of SR 218, just east of SR 3. A lot of old gravestones, and the 12/13 unmarked.

I've been to the one in Indiana back in the late 70's and it actually does happen; you count 13 graves going one way and only 12 going back. They are very old and unmarked but did have cement slabs over them. It was very eerie.

i went there over the summer and when i went i didn't see anything. however, i have a friend with a heart condition and everytime he's been there he's heard someone chasing him out of the woods. also there is a bridge just down the gravel road and they stopped the car and turned it off and when they turned it back on the gauges went crazy and started flickering. I heard that ghosts are supernatural and tend to come out more often when someone who has been close to death is around.

It was previously published that the "13 Graves" in IN weren't actually graves, but cement slabs for old horse-drawn hearses to drive over upon entering the cemetary on rainy day...so they wouldn't sink up to their axles.

Has anyone tried taking pictures of the "13 graves", and then the "12 graves"? Could this be simply an optical illusion?

I have been there (the indiana one) and it is a really neat place..nothing real creepy, besides there are dead people there. I have never heard the witch story or the "bus accident", the story I have always been told is that a family of 13 (2 adults and 11 kids) were killed when their home caught fire. They were buried with no tomb stone because they were poor, and they had no other family. Anyway, the reason that there is 13 graves one way and 12 the other is because one of the children (a girl) was never found (dead-or-alive) while the rest were.

Hey everyone. I actually live not even a mile away from 13 graves in Indiana. I won't tell you the address, to keep people away. There has been a lot of vandalism lately and police have been keeping an eye on the cemetery. However, this particular graveyard is not the original. Only the locals know where the original Thirteen Graves really are. I will not be disclosing this location at the time for the sake of wanting to keep it a secret and also respect for the people who live around it. If you'd like to know more information on the fake/original Thirteen Graves, you are welcome to email me at golfgirl2054@yahoo.com.

Do not mess with the graves at 13 graves. Friends of ours went to the graves and drank beer, used the bathroom on the graves, and cursed at them and all four died within a month of that visit.

For those who said the 13 graves is not in indiana are incorrect. There is a 13 graves here. I have been there and was fascinated by the stories i was told about this place. The story i was told is the same as the description but there is more. There were "After life" Guard dogs that protected the graves. Also I was told that if you were in a car, a RED car would drive by. If you were in a van, a RED van would crive by. If in a truck, well you get the picture. Well the the road into the Cemetery is a dead end, but yet a RED vehicle will go by more than once. I was skeptical of the whole thing so a few friend of mine decided to investigate to see if this is true. We arrived at about 1:30 am and proceeded to the graves. Just walking up to it is spooky. Well we get to the grave and counted them but we could not get 12 graves. so were thinking this is a waste of time. At that moment a RED Van drives by very slowly. Thats when the goose bumps hit. Then we started to hear dogs barking and getting closer. Well every one is spooked and wanted to go. But i am more curious so i stayed by the graves a little longer. Then there was some movement in the brush beyond the graves. Well i decided not to push my luck so we all decided to leave. Just as i started the van, The RED van drove by again. there is only one way in and one way out. Yup, it was time to go. This is my personal experience and you can believe it if you want to or not. Nothing will change what i experienced that night and i will never forget it.

Well I totally believe you about the car and van because the house down the road has a red car and red van parked in the driveway. Travel down that road next time cause its not a dead end. And they have a dog. A big noisy dog!

For those of you who dont think that the original 13 Graves is in Indiana, i know for a fact that it is and have been there plenty of times. My experiences have all been different each time, but i was convinced from the very first visit that it is in fact haunted. My first trip up to 13, i went with two guy friends and none of us even got out of the car because of the intensity of paranormal activity. The other two people i went with had already been there multiple times, but refused to get out of the car for multiple reasons: in the left corner closest to the gate is where the caretaker paces and right before leaving his apparition was practically pressed up against my car window; in the right corner closest to the gate, there are tall figures that lurk in the shadows as well.

another time i went with the same two people plus an extra guy and girl. this time we placed a candle on the fence for a little bit of light and for the spirits to manipulate. during this trip, two of my friends wandered off into the far left corner and were followed back by the caretaker. they got spooked and ran back out of the gate, but right before they walked out of the cemetary, the candle blew out and there was no wind this night. in the same trip, the three guys went into the far right corner and stood for a while, but left because they felt like they were being pushed and watched by a group of people. the last event of the night were the children who play on the right side of the graveyard. supposedly if you see the face of the girl, you get sick to your stomach immediately-and whether it was an act or not, the girl i was with said she saw the face and threw up before we left that evening.

i have many friends who grew up in Grant County and multiple stories of the same occurances ive experienced. There used to be a red tricycle in the far left corner that if you moved it, it would be in its original position the next visit. people have also cited orbs, shadows and apparitions of all sorts here. i have never personally walked over the graves because i refuse to out of respect for the dead, but i have seen people count multiple times 13 one way and 12 the other. and the river is rising so much now that the graves are rising from the ground, which is chilling in itself.

oh, and one of my friends has a completely unaltered photo of a full figured apparition of the caretaker wearing overalls and swinging his lantern (the state you will always see him in) and this photo is so believable that when his mom was shown the photo, she asked 'who was wearing overalls?'

all that being said, i am a very skeptical person when it comes to paranormal activity, but there is no doubt that what ive talked about has actually happened. chalk it up to what you'd like, but with the same sightings occuring multiple times, its hard to not believe.

I've been to the one in Indiana many times and have seen nothing "haunted" about the place, even while going at night. The reason you see 13 graves walking up and 12 walking back is because the last one is set at an angle so you only see it going one way....well you can still see it but it isn't readily apparent....mystery solved lol

I live just a few miles from the cemetery in the original despription of this post. My grandfather, his parents and grandparents are buried in this cemetery. During the daytime it is a very peaceful place located on the bank of the Salamonie River. I have never been there after dark and probably never will. There is a lot of local folklore about this cemetery - mostly untrue.

Where is the one in MInnesota?? I went to the graves near St. Thomas and it wasn't creepy and I only was able to count like six or seven graves.  Therefore I don't believe this to be the actual thirteen graves in Minnesota.  So if anyone knows where the other thirteen graves in Minnesota is I would love to know where is.
