Location Description:
Washington Elementary is located in near the center of Owatonna. It sits on the site of the former high school. Many years ago, the old high school had burned down. It`s rumored that the fire was caused in a science room. Some time later, after the site was cleared, Washington was built in 1952. During the school year of 1991-1992, the school was remodled to accommodate additional classrooms, an art room, a large gym, extra restrooms, a staff room, a computer lab, and a vocal music room. The school again had gone under some minor remodling in 1999. An elevator was added at the Broadway entrance, the office was moved to the bottom floor and the old office was transformed into a learning center classroom. The stage in the gym had also been removed to allow extra storage space for all of the P.E. equipment.
On the bottom floor of the school, all the way down by the art rooms, there is a small storage room called the Bull Pen. The origins of the nick name for this room is unknown but many staff members have seen some unexplainable things in this room. Teachers, students and other staff members of the like have seen some dark mysterious shadows move their way through the room. The room gives off an uncomfortable feeling/presence and many people do what they can to stay away. Students have seen shadows from the hall way that resemble dark shadowy body parts. Also, late at night when the janitors are the only ones in the building, unexplainable noises are heard from this room.
The bull pen is not the only spot in the building that is a claimed source for the unexplained. In the second grade classrooms on the second floor of the building, room 2B has a few minor tales of it`s own. During school hours, it has been common for books to mysteriously fall off the shelves. The books would be put back, only find their way back onto the floor. On another occasion, during a normal afternoon as the second graders were being treated to story time, a box of wooden toys had fallen of off a shelve that was near the window. This incident was a bit strange as all the children were contently seated in the story time circle and that the box was shoved as far back on the shelf as it could go. It`s not clear whether or not what the source of this paranormal activity is, but it is clear that it doesn`t cause any harm to the children. Maybe it`s a spirit of a young child that came to an untimely end that is just looking for the companionship of other children. Or maybe it could be the spirit from the former high school. What ever the source for the activity, it`s clear that it doesn`t mean any harm.
Also, just to make it clear, This Elementery school is still being used as a school for little children. Any type of investigation is probably going to be useless unless you know some one at the school that could let you in... Even then, it will be difficult to get in because not only will you need permission, they will need permission to bring in late night investigators which is VERY unlikely.
