I have been there but didn't see or hear any thing, but I wouldn,t doubt the place beening haunted, the only thing wrong with this story is it wasn't a mental institution it was built by the mill workers union for employees of cotton mills that had a lung dasiese from working in the cotton mills. I know this because I did extensive research on Pressmans Home about 10 years ago.

this stuff was quarentined back in the 30's by the army, the people in the mental institution were locked in the facilities and were locked in to starve to death they say if you walk up to the rogers cemetery you can feel a breeze hit you in the face, and there are dogs in the back that are there which means someone is feeding them, i went 3 days ago and my friends flashlight shut off an he jus put brand new batteries in it and as we were walking back were heard a sound as if someone was clapping over and over again but nothing was behind us. if you wanna give some1 a scare this is the place. but dont reccomend jus walkin up there by yourself...

No this area- more than a home, with many buildings, was built for the Pressmans Union. It was a place for pressmen and their families to live and learn the trade. It had many buildings on the grounds. Most of them still there and well gaurded today. This is private property. You have the internet-look iy up....

history of the area take from Harry Burton's webpage along with some of the evidence collected from the investigation. Please click on link below to visit ETPRS's Sister site "FRIENDLY GHOSTS" for more evidence from Rogersville, TN. Return to : ETPRS Investigations Page Pressmen's Home, Rogersville, TN April 1, 2006 VIDEOS Orb 2 1/4 speed from real time "Where ya goin' Wheaty?" Orb 1 1/4 speed from real time "Micka Nicka Hi" (Song) (Child) "I Need Some Lovin'" "Look At All The People?" "How Many Entities Are There?" This is the most unique EVP that we captured. You first hear some entities talking, then you hear a little girl sing a song. And then is reprimanded by a female spirit! Again their is NO CHILDREN present! "Get Out Of The Hostile Area!" Right after we got out of the car I received this EVP. Keep in mind that the area we were in is an area where a lot of illegal activities seem to be going on, arson is rampant, you get shot at if you try to walk to the buildings across the street and many murders have happened. The EVP says, "Get out of the hostile area". " Who are these people?" ... After you hear Tracy speaking, at the end of the audio file is the EVP, "Who are these people?" I guess we started peaking their interest doing the investigation. "You Know Easter?" Maybe someone had come through the light to greet a spirit and was saying to him, "Do you know Easter?" since that would be someone he would like to see? Also, there is a few note tune that came from the other side in this EVP as well. Audio and Videos are played by Quick Time Player. Click on link above to download Quick Time Player for FREE! Pressmen's Home Tennessee is located between Knoxville and Kingsport. It was the headquarters for the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union of North America. It was established in 1911 by George L. Berry. The union provided a Trade School to train union members in all aspects of printing. The Trade School housed both letter-press and offset presses as early as 1912, it also provided training in Pre-Press and Bindery. Many young men came to Pressmen's Home from all over the United States and Canada to train in their profession

Why is the place haunted? When did the ghost start haunting? Who were they as real people? I have been trying to investigate the story that ETPR released about the home they investigated. I can find no evidence that a man killed his entire family and then burned the home to make it look like an accident. Curiously, there were no last names given in the story, the only name given was EDGAR. Which is not a last name, if it is there are no records of an Edgar that killed his family. I would like to know what the WHOLE story is??? Please, if anyone has any information will you post it to this site for me to review at will? If there even is a story???

I had never heard of or even been to Pressmen's Home when I moved here. About 5 years ago I went with some friends by PH. We got shot at a few times, no one was hurt. That made me think illegal things (drugs) were being made so I never went back. I've been doing research. No the sanitorium wasn't a mental home but was some one doing experiments on the TB patients??? The cemetary that you can't even tell is there is set up really weird. I can't find ANY info about the men's names on those graves. There is only one woman buried there, the rest men. The year the men died are VERY close to each other. If I ever drive by PH I get a weird feeling at the "haunted blue house" and on down the road, almost near where the sanitorium stood. I have asked and still am curioius about the EDGAR story. Two different people who were raised in the area said the story was true but all they could remember was the whole community was upset about it then but no one knows about " the family name or the man killing his family and burning the house". About the haunted house, the little girl singing the song I think that might have something to do with Indians because of the chant and the words used. Years ago indians because years ago history research refers to indians calling the "Happy Valley" a place of healing waters, due to the minerals in the sulfur springs and alum in the alum well area. I'm still researching. I also feel like no one burnt PH on purpose. Maybe something bad was there and probably still is and mysterious fires come of it.

I'm from Pressman's Home just north of Rogersville, Tennessee and still live within a few minutes from there. One of my granddad's was a security guard and the other worked in maintenance. As Harry Burton (he's my cousin) was quoted in one of the above postings, Pressmans Home was headquarters for the International Printing Pressmen Union of North America and was also the best printing schools in the United States and had students from all over the place. It was like a little town. Had it's own zip code, store, electricity, water supply, hotel with resturaunt, 2 apartment buildings and a world class sanitorium (hospital) that treated Tuberculosis which is a common disease for people that worked in printing presses and inks (lead kills) during that era. But it wouldn't suprise me at all if some of their patients had unethical experiments done on them. Doctors and scientists did alot of weird and deadly experiments on people back in those days in pursuit of advancing medicine. The paranormal society in one of the posting above, came and took some readings at a house in PH that is supposed to be haunted. I was in the house once...really didn't feel anything weird there, but I know the former owners very good that lived in the house for years and she swore it was haunted. The current owner also says it was haunted until the society ran them off. There were Creek and Cherokee Indians that lived and fought to their death there. My dad use to hunt arrowheads and found many from there. So if haunts/ghosts do exist, I would have to say Pressman's Home is probably crawling with them. The Tech building and chapel was supposedly bought by a militia group. So it wouldn't be advisable to trespass, they've got signs everywhere and I've heard of other people getting shot at too. The buildings at PH were burned on purpose. The last building didn't only burn, it was blown up. I don't think the people in the area want developers visiting and wanting to rebuild.

Sorry but your story is false I live very close and actually work on the golf course there. Pressman's home was never a mental institute. Actually there are people who live in the building now. Pressmans home was a college at one time. Actually my papaw owns several of the houses that surround the area and I have actual post cards and pictures that were developed in the college. We are restoring all of pressmans home as I speak and it is very close to being done.

I went to PH school in 1960.  It was a very good trade school. I was there for 3 months, with many students and instructures.  I lived in the PH hotel and treated very well, and have fond memories.  Nobody ever mention anything about ghosts.

What buildings are being restored? I live right near Pressman's Home and nothing is being restored..except for maybe the golf course and club house. You might be able to take pictures of the trade school and the chapel right off Hwy. 94..but I wouldn't go onto the property.

I visited it on 7-26-2010. I was told that maybe 9 holes would open in 2011. The golf club house in Camelot is still a great looking building but needs some work. Since all the people are gone it would be almost impossible to bring the golf course back to life. It is just too far away from 11W. This was truly a great place from 1920-1970.  We still own a lot there and pay our 1.00 per year taxes. Pressman's Home (the town) is now really gone. Most of the buildings are decaying.  This is now private property so you should stay away.  dwa7@bvunet.net

Not a mental institution. The pressman's union built a sanitorium for pressmen suffering from tuberculosis then moved the Pressman's union headquarters and Trade school there. They shut everything down in 1969. I grew up near there in Rogersville. Tennessee. My dad took me and my brothers out there when we were kids. Everything is overgrown and vandalized. The church still looked decent as I remember. I heard the hotel was burned down in 1994. To my knowledge there is nothing in the works to reopen or remodel anything. Be careful if you go there. Have not heard of any active security for the site. The area is overgrown and I bet the remaining buildings are unsafe to go poking around in. I have seen old postcard pictures of the area in it's heyday and it looked pretty nice. Kind of resort like.

I lived there and worked there as a kid. Pressmen's Home was the Printers Union Headquarters from 1911 until the late 60's Land development companies bought the property to do a resort but went bankrupt and I worked there for my dad who watched after the buildings and kept people out to make sure nothing was torn up. The TB hospital was for Union Members that contracted TB, lots of printers had TB in the 30's and 40's (dirty working conditions). I worked there all by myself for 3 years on second shift, a scary place for a teenager all alone for sure but no ghost at all, I'd have seen them for sure. As far as the cemetary, most of them were men that died at the hospital from TB. The names and dates are on most of the headstones. I spent many many many hours and days in and around there so again ... NO GHOSTS ... unless they moved in after I left lol!

Its owned by the government now. All of the lights are on in the big buildin -off of the road in that turn, theres a pull off on the other side of the road-, that i think is the old hospital. One of my friends, who knew where the driveway is to get back there, and one of his friends went there once and a black suv turned on their blue lights and pulled in, two guys in black suits got out and approached them. They said this isnt a hangout spot, and to never go back there again. they also said that they knew it was historical, but you can only view it fom the road. My friend left after that, he thinks theres some kind of government conspiracy, or maybe theyre tryin to cover up or investigate something.. whether its paranormal or not. There are cameras and you can see a red light as well.

Some of my friends have also confirmed people talking, the gunshits, and even several black clad men, running. Something falling, too.

I would seriously advise people NOT to go to Pressmen's Home/Camelot.  Myself and two friends drove up very late one night out of boredom, hoping for a ghost sighting.  We got more than we bargained for, and saw something that I still to this day cannot identify.  We expected a ghost and instead saw some sort of strange beast.  It stood on two legs, was brownish-black, and had a flat face with no muzzle.  It also had a red eyeshine, which is only possible if it had been a night heron.  It certainly was no bird, and I will never forget it.  I have never before or since seen anything that could be classified as "paranormal", which is fine because once was enough.  I did not get the feeling that this creature was pleasant, either.  I even remember feeling pity for the deer we passed on the road, having to share the woods with this thing.

As long as they let the place sit there and rot, weird things are going to inhabit the old town.  This place could have been something, and it's a shame that they've let it deteriorate like so many other lovely towns and buildings in the south.  Sounds like some weirdos have also taken up residence there, and I find humans to be far more dangerous than anything paranormal, usually.  Either way, this is not a place you want to go, and I will not return unless some enterprising millionaire wants to rebuild this once-fine resort town deep in the mountains.
