Description:
One night driving by, I decided to stop by and shoot some pics of this notoriously haunted house. I took several pictures of the house and the adjoining gazebo area. But it was the small general store at the entrance  that contained the most amazing shots. I actually captured the images of 2 people looking out the window at me, as if to survey what I was doing there. It was the most frightening thing I've ever captured on camera. This location is definitely haunted.

The first is a man named J. G. Chandler. Though the picture would seem harmless enough just hanging on the wall, some people claimed to have actually seen Mr. Chandler’s face cracking a smile. Pretty unusual since the portrait’s expression carries a more serious tone. The second portrait, depicting a man who still has not been properly identified, carries a darker air to it. Just like the Chandler portrait this too occasionally deviates from it’s original form in that the figure can sometimes be seen bleeding at the throat! If one looks at the unknown man’s portrait closer one can see blood dripping from the collar. The third apparition was the former owner of the house, named Mrs. Agnes Ware Stanley, as time passed by for Agnes it became more difficult for her to climb the stairs of the house. Well it turns out that when someone climbs the stairs they are somewhat slowed down by a strange force. The fourth spirit is that of a baby crying in the second floor nursery. It has been discovered that the daughter of one of the past caretakers died in that room. Update/ 5SEP98:I just dropped by the area and found that it’s also called the Garden Grove Historical Society, they give out tours every third Sunday of the month at 1:30pm. Every other day it seems pretty empty. Another thing, if you go down there, don’t expect to find an actual grassy park. All I saw was pavement. I heard the restless spirit of a little girl has been seen in the area. She bounces a red ball and crys loudly throughout the night... Also, an entire family was murdered on this property back in the 1800's. All of the victims are interred at the Magnolia Cemetery in Garden Grove, located on Magnolia, South of Chapman. BOO!

Im curious if anyone knows the real stroy of what happened. I have heard many simular stories that tell me the location is haunted but why? A few years ago my family moved to a house on Ora St. for anyone that dosent know this street is very dark and behind the Historical Society. When we moved there I started experiencing things that could not be exlpained. Such as hearing crying and seeing shadows or images of people that were not there. I became completly freaked out and began to try to understand what i was experiencing. The stories that i have heard are that many years ago there was farm located in Anaheim, CA at the corner of Euclid and Chapman where the kmart is now located. The family that lived there had a young daughter that was unwed. Now i have heard that she became pregnant and a relative visting from Germany was so upset at her embarising the family that he murdered her and her unborn baby. They say that the family was later murdered also. The farm house was left vacant for 30 or 40 years because the home and the land was said to be haunted by the young girl who was buried on the property. The house was later moved to the historical society on Euclid in the city of Garden Grove and the young girls body was laid to rest at the cemetery on Magnolia St where her other family members were buried. I have spoken with my neighbors and other people from the area that have seen a young girl in a nightgown crying. I'm looking for anyone with more information on this tale and the name of the girl. I dont know if the old farm house is the Stanley house and if the young girl was the owners daughter but the area is haunted ask anyone that lives there.

The site of The Stanley House, is the original site. The rest of the buildings, have been moved there. I volunteered there in 94' and most of the "oldsters" there, denied any paranormal activity. If a visitor showed up asking if it was "the haunted house", they would tell them it was all made up. I had experiences inside The Stanley House, once while working in it by myself. Another occasion while walking by the old barn, with the V.P. of the GGHS, I heard a banging from inside it. I asked if she heard that and she said no. I said no more about it. While on our way back by, the banging started again. I said nothing but she said; "I heard it that time". It was locked up with a chain and padlock to the only entrance. She was concerned that an animal may have got trapped inside and unlocked the door, for me (not her) to check. I looked all over inside the barn, while she stood outside and waited; there was nothing, visible.

If you google the address and look it up on the maps page, go to the street view. There is a black shape on the balcony on the side of the house!

This house sounds like the real thing! I am working on a new documentary series and we need stories just like this. If you know of a private residence that has spirits, please contact me at scaryhomes@gmail.com. We will have professional mediums try and contact the spirits at the location. - Thanks for your help. - Nicole

I live on Chapman and Euclid not far from Stanley House. I truly believe the entire area where I live is haunted ( off Della between Chapman and Orangewood). I'm often having to take double takes of things when I'm looking out my window while washing dishes facing Della. When I first moved into the home 2 ghost woke me with the conversation they were having. I was wide awake..believe me!. I often see figures just roaming the streets...very wierd. I'm curious to find out if others are experiencing the same thing.

I've sneaked out of my house on a couple of occasions and passed by this place, I didn't see anything strange there at all, I might have been there at the wrong time though to experience anything, so I'm not whether or not it is haunted or not.

My wife, I and my sister-in-law visited the house and the property back in the late 80's. Although nothing happened while we were in the house a very strange thing happened as we exited our car after first arriving on the property. We heard a very loud male voice call out my wife's name. All three of us heard it very distinctly but there was no one within a 100 yards of us. We then with the docents toured the property and haven't been back since. I seriously doubt that we ever will. Definitely spooky.

I have lived down the street from this house for years, and multiple friends of mine live within a 2 minute walking distance from the stanley house. I attended stanley elementary and the corner that shares the fence with the stanley house is very spooky. on any given day you will never find any child close to that fence because for some reason there is an eary presence being over there. although one of my bestfriends lives across the street from the stanley house she has never seen anything. my other friend lives in the house directly on the right of the stanley house, her room is directly under the balcony and shes told me about an incident were she looked up from her window and saw a lady in a white dress looking out from the balcony at midnight.

I was born and raised in the area.  The stories are true.  My best friend growning up lived in the neighborhood behind the Stanley House and the number of wierd and unexplainable things we have seen and experienced are crazy in themself.  In addition, the area to the North of Stanley House (now a kaiser building, and a housing tract) used to be a strawberry field owned by a friend of mines family.  Let's just say that none of his family nor the workers would ever walk the field after dark.  His father to this day still will talk about the experiences of doing so when they first bought it.

Me, my mother and girlfriend have been to this location twice.

The first time we arrived we drove up just to look at it, where we got a very bad vibe from the place. My mother said she felt as if some one was watching us, whilst my girlfriend was in the back seat staring at one of the farm houses in the back where the barn is and claimed to see a curtain move as if someone was looking through as soon as she looked back after the curtain was back to normal.

The second time we got bored and decided to walk around, we got out the car and immediately walked toward the Stanley house and had a creepy feeling. We peeked through windows and felt a cold dark presence and stepped away where my girlfriend claimed to have short breath.

We walked to the back where they have the barn and other buildings where we all stopped when we heard a groaning sound by the barn. it sounded like someone was in pain or sick, it was fairly loud, my mother is deaf and she heard the groaning.

We continued to walk and in the back is another house with a front garden, my mom refused to go any closer while me being adventurous walked up to the front door and playfully knocked and peered in to the door window. theres a rocking chair in the living room and kitchen in the back. I looked for a few good minutes till i saw a figure in the kitchen and the rocking chair started to move, I dont remember moving after that.

While heading back to the car we passed by the barn again where we heard the groaning once more but it was more violent and my girlfriend had smelled something bad.

Pretty haunted id say.
