Wainwright Bridge
Jefferson City, Mo 65110

County: Cole County
WebSite: None

If you park on Wainwright bridge at midnight and turn your car off, your car will (reportedly) slowly roll of the bridge. Also, odd noises can be heard below the bridge, as if someone is beating on it or scratching the steal support beams. There have been bloody footprints spotted leading out of the water into the mud, only to stop abruptly, as if the person leaving the footprints simply disappeared. A dozen missing persons have been reported as having been last seen near or on the bridge, and no less than three farmer's bodies have been found below it. A car drove off one side of the bridge, and landed a dozen or so yards on the other side.

Are you talking about Okie Pinokie Bridge? On the gravel road? Bc that used 2 be called the old wainwright bridge. Apparently, alot of cult activity goes on down there or at least there used to. There's been reports of seeing ropes hanging over the side of the bridge with animals on it, A pair of truck headlights chase you out of the area when you leave, I've only been down there once, I never got out of the car, that place gives off such an eerie vibe.

Too funny, my family had hayrides down those roads for years after dark.  I've aslo been on old 94 hwy after dark taking pictures of the Capitol.  Nothing has ever happened.

The google map directions are wrong, I went there today and there is no bridge and nothing in the area that would have indicated one being there. I'm thinking it must be in the 'town' of Wainwright on the way to Mokane. No idea which bridge though.

No the bridge is there, my friends and I have gone there on several occasions. It's on the side road next to the Jefferson City Airport that heads southwest. You just follow that road 2 miles or so past the airport and make sure you stay to the left of the forks and you can't miss it.

The bridge was built in 1901. A cult is suppose to be a reason for the disappearance and the so call sighting of a strange creature mention on the Old 94 area cause this is the same place. The scraping could be thought to be the creature but it is just the fact that the bridge is old. the reports of missing or dead people can't be proven even though unidentified bodies are found in this part of the Missouri river and bodies have been dumped in the field. the bodies are just found by the sand plant in this area, mainly no one else except an unlucky fisherman would find them. This is the Okeefanokee Bridge on CR 4038 crossing the Rivaux creek Went there with some friends no creature no foot prints no ghost like things, Ouija wouldn't do nothing, and no car followed us out. Still kinda creepy. Ends up the Okeefanokee was an urban legend that locals in jeff made up long ago. On http://bridgehunter.com/mo/callaway/rivaux-4038/ a man talks about him and his friends hanging out there and having a great time and kidding about the legend. If you want to go there, but don't drive to far! If yo want to be scared go to Auxvasse's Nine Mile bridge on CR156.

I haven't heard of anyone else talk about Rivaux Creek, other than my mother and I, for years. Riveaux Creek runs through my grandmother's property. My brother and I swam, played and fished in that creek all the time. Wild mint grows in the loamy soil of the creek bank. We'd step on it and we could smell the aroma of mint all along the water's bank. I saw my first cotton mouth while fishing with my brother, there.

I stopped and walked around that bridge today, but didn't notice anything.  I think a part of me really didn't.  In Jefferson City, Hoods is on Hibernia Road, north of the Missouri River.  Follow it south past Hoods to Mokane Road (Mokane Road is also CR4038.)  About 5 miles(?) in the paved section of road begins turning to the left, back towards HWY94, and a white gravel road continues straight.  Stay on the white gravel road and the bridge is close.

My family is from Wainwright, MO and the surrounding area.  We have a family tragedy that happened around that bridge about 100+ years ago.

Here's the story as it was told to my mother who told it to me.

My great grandfather, William Orvel Fowler, was driving a mule/horse drawn wagon over the train tracks (now the Katy Trail) and the mules/horses spooked and stalled.  The train company let the weeds grow up all along the tracks making visability an issue. I assume that my Great Grandpa got out of the wagon in an attempt to make the mules move accross the intersection of train track.  His youngest son, Jr. was left in the wagon.  Dispite my great grandpa's efforts the wagon was struck by the train.  The mule team was killed and so was the little boy, Jr.  We aren't sure why my grandpa didn't hear the train, maybe he did.  Maybe in his panic he was trying to save everything.  My great grandfather, William Orvel Fowler, was unharmed by the incident.

My mother says that she doesn't believe that any of the above story has to do with my family's tragedy, but it is curious.

We went out there at midnight, it was raining hard on the way out there so that was creepy to begin with. Whe we got there we immediatly parked, soon there after we pulled forward and felt like we ran over something. we backed up and nothing was there. Then the driver got an overwhelming feeling of heaviness and complete weakness. It took over and he remained in the car during the whole experiance. The driver was the least in believing anything would happen. I then walked out with everyone else in the car immediatly seein a shadow near the bridge. We took pictures after the rain cleared and multiple orbs are on every picture with tracers moving from side to side. There were strange noises, shadows and thumps in the bushes. On the way out there was a dead rabbit that was not there on the way there. The rabbit was freshly killed with watered blood splatters and this was no normal road kill. The rabbits head was detached as if cut or torn off, with no ligaments or visible spine. It was no normal!!!!! I then got an overwhelming feeling same as the driver and started crying for no reason. It was by far the most unusual and frightening experiance that any of us have ever had...Dead time is from 2-5 am and we were there at midnight. SCARY!!!!!!

All these scary stories are BS. I had A huge party there in 2001 roughly 80 ppl 3 kegs and most of us spent the night there after the cops ran off the minors . Nothing strange happened except a few unplanned pregancies, and I lost my Hat.

My Girlfriend and I went down to the bridge one night. When we were on our way down there my girlfriend was saying how she had a bad feeling about going to the bridge. She hadn't been there before and never heard about the place, yet she still had the feeling.

While we were on the bridge my girlfriend wouldn't get out of the car nor would she take off her seat belt. Me being Me wanted to step onto the bridge. My cousin J, my Girlfriend, and I started hearing things drop into the water. It was pitch black outside besides the shining head lights from my truck. As I stepped onto the bridge I froze in my foot steps. I felt a heavy vide on my right side. My arms were down to my side and there was the feeling that someone a hold of me. I couldn't move nor could I speak. The sounds of object dropping into the water were all around us. My shadow was point straight ahead which was correct to the direction of light but, there was another shadow that was pointing to the right... Remember it wasn't my shadow! Finally my girlfriend said to get in the truck and go. As I got into the truck I noticed that I had scratches all up and down my arms. It looked as if someone was struggling to move me and I had marks on my arms from their nails.

The same night I had to go back to the bridge because my cousin had his truck there; we had to get gas for his truck. My girlfriend wasn't with me when we went. When we got there for the second time, I had my girlfriend on the phone. As I opened the door quietly so she wouldn't hear she started yelling at me. She said she could hear heavy breathing into the phone. She thought there was someone else with me and my cousin. I closed my door, turned on speaker phone, and put the phone on the truck. As I was putting in the gas from the gas can, she said there was screaming noise and other people talking into the phone. As we began to leave my truck felt as if it was rocking/fish tailing feeling..
