In the shadows of the sleepy country town of Winchester, California lays the Patterson House, which is the oldest standing building in the town (though it is technically in Hemet). The Patterson House was built Winchester pioneer John Patterson over the ruins of an adobe home that was once the headquarters for a Mexican rancho before the Mexican War. The Patterson House is now (or once was) a museum and visitors have claimed to experience poltergeist activities including phantom knocking, doors opening, and objects moving. Many claim it is the spirit of Lloyd Patterson who died  as a young man in the house from Tuberculosis in the early 1900s.

i lived in winchester for over 17 yrs, i am putting together a over night stay for after the first of the yr, i will load pics of the place soon.. anyone interested in going on the over nighter?? leave me a message :)

The location of this house is NOT technically in Hemet!  Hemet's reach toward Winchester ends at California Ave hence the house  IS in Winchester.  Given the fact it is less than 2 miles from the center of town, it really is dumb when people call the part of Winchester Hemet when in fact it is not.

Hemet Paranormal Research Society did an investigation there July 9th 2011. Good site to investigate. More then one spirit roams the grounds there. The whole group had personal stories to tell. We got EVP's and a piece of video. Lots of unexplained noises too. Call for a meeting with caretaker. Local law patrols area regular, as well as people on all sides of house. This is the oldest house in the area so the community watches it closely. Hunt wisely!

OK folks lets set some facts straight.
 I, Gregg Cowdery am the curator for the Patterson House Museum since 1995. The house did indeed sit inside the Hemet "postal zone" at one time but now is in the Winchester (92596) postal zone.
The house is NOT the oldest standing building in the community. The Methodist Church and its parsonage predate it. The Patterson House was built in 1891 behind the original adobe that was used for many years after the new house was built. So much for the ruins idea posted above.
Winchester and area around it was "NEVER" a part of any rancho as far as we know  of based on maps we have seen.
Lastly Lloyd did "NOT" die in the house but passed away in his sleep in an out building behind the house.

(One of) got skipped when I added the oldest, should have been one of the oldest houses in Winchester. I didn't add the mane story at the top of the page, sorry Greg. Hemet Paranormal.

Some members From Hemet Valley Paranormal will be a part of a paranormal documentary. We will be starting it here. The place does have activity. We gave Greg a cd with some of our findings and we need to give him 1 more. Thank you Greg and the Winchester Hisorical Society of Pleasant Valley.

There will be no documentary here and Hemet Paranormal is no longer a group. Paradigm Paranormal is now doing Ghost Hunting tours here and Don't Run Paranormal does investigations here once a month. We also go and help the Curator keep the property cleaned up.I am the founder of Don't Run Paranormal and I will also be helping Paradigm Paranormal lead some of the Ghost tours here as well.
