I don't remember exactly what year it was, but I know I was around 9 or 10 so I will say somewhere between 1978-1979. I was at the park down the street from our house in Canoga Park called Lanark Park where my dad played softball with his family on a regular basis. It was an late in the evening on a summer night so the sky was still fairly light. My cousin, T.J., who was around 4 or 5 years old was with me. We walked over to the playground and began swinging on the swing set near the rec center. After a few minutes of swinging we both happen to look up and see a humoungous round shaped object with lights around the outer edge hovering about 200 feet above the ground. Not very high at ALL!. It was low enough above us that we could not see any of the evening sky around it. (about 50 feet above tree height). Shocked, of course, I jumped off my swing and knelt down in front of my cousin to unbuckle him from his swing. (Yes, back in the 70's they used to have safety belts on swings built for younger children.)
So unfortunately when I turned around to unbuckle him, then turned back it vanished into this air. We were both shocked. We spend the next several hours wandering around the park, trying to figure out what had happened. That was the ONE and only time I ever saw a UFO or anything even close to it! Funny ending to the story though...... about a month or so after, there was a story on the front page of the daily news about a local UFO sighting. Tripped me out.
