Location Description:
The abandoned tracks and surrounding woods were the sight of a tragic train derailment in the early 1980's. A freight train running in the middle of the night left the tracks, putting cars in the creek, river and woods. Some of the workers aboard the train were killed and the tracks were so badly damaged that the railroad built new tracks adjcent to the old ones. I can still recall the morning of the accident, my father getting me up at 4:00am to investigate the noise that woke him from his sleep. I remember hearing men calling for their co-workers and the screams of an injured man. I spent a good portion of my formative years playing on and around that area and have seen a number of unexplaned events that I still question to this day. One being the dusk walker that floats above the abandoned train bridge just after sunset. As stupid as this sounds today, I would ride my bike down the live track to use the active bridge in order to cross the river and play in the adjcent woods, one evening as I was crossing the bridge I witnessed a figure floating across the abandoned bridge. The reason I say floating is because the abandoned bridge is missing all of the ties in the middle and makes it very dangerous to walk across, let alone run across at dusk. I have also witnessed strange lights on the abandoned tracks and what sounds like voices in the woods at night. That place is sketchy at best in the day, so scope it out in the daylight before venturing there at night. If you want a guide, I would consider something in the summer.
