I was in the webster house before they tore it down. Creepy but at the same time a waste. It was a sunny summer day, 1pm or so and we needed flashlights to see anything in the basement. the stories say the little girl that lived there ran out in the back yard and was never seen again but if you go in the backyard the family dogs will attack you guarding the little girl. The house was a waste because there had been parties and cult things going on there. writing all over every wall some death threats some random stuff. Empty beer bottles and cans it horribly smelled of urine. The garage was filled with bags of bottles and cans as if people cleaned up but the entire garage was full. they have since torn down the house and closed the area off but I think the driveway is still there.

I was there in 1990 at night a couple of times. It was a very fun place to explore, I felt very creeped out driving upon the place but it was very very fun to explore...There was a underground tunnel under the side walk from the garage to the house you had to duck in it but you could walk. It ended at the foundation wall of the house someone busted a small maybe 1ft by 1ft hole in the wall and inside there was a room all sealed in with a chair and a rusty bucket in the middle it was nuts.

one day i went to the house with some friends and we walked up the drive way it was real dark nothing in the path and then we saw something in the window shining we thought some teenagers were trying to play a joke on us but when we turned around the path was blocked with these logs we moved them and ran to the street and we saw some one driving by they picked us up and we drove further away from the house...... i swear true story i believe it was in the 1980's

Hey I stumbled across this site with stumbleupon. I live about 3 minutes from the FORMER castle. It WAS behind the YMCA off of Bay Rd near Empire, but it is now gone. They tore it down a few years ago cause they were sick of us kids goofing off and getting stoned there--sorry we screwed it up for you!

I basically lived there, lol. Ide go there by myself and write and chill out. Although, I will admit, I never went alone at night. I dont think anyone could handle being there at night, alone. I knew the place like the back of my hand and still, no matter how many times I was there, it remained one of the creepiest places I knew of. Everyone I brought there, till this day talks about it. I mean, it really was one of a kind, and to those who seek it, sadly, it has been torn down. I had some moron friends who back in the day we recorded video footage of the place, but these idiots, God knows where theyve got it. Theye were too nerdy to appreciate such a place, and so even back then I remember they telling me they lost it. WHat a bunch of common nerdy mother fuckers! I hate pricks like that. The experience began when off of Bay Rd. yude turn on to a public access road to the YMCA, of course, failing to go left into the Y, you continue straight where then the road suddenly becomes one of the late 1800's, no pavement, no signs, no lights, your vehicle barely able to make the straight without tree branches brushing the side of the car. Often, they used a chain to prevent 'us' from going forth, of course, it was nothing to apply pressure with the car until the chain popped(as I would do anyway) and continue straight through. It seemed long and added to the creepy effect, and in many ways, I felt like I was sent back into time, like to the day where You believed monsters & demons existed. Going further you finally reached an Island of trees and brush that sat in front of the castle, and so the drive way curved around it, and as your driving your headlights expose the castle from your right, and the windows on the second floor were like mouths and portals into hell, there was no glass, and no front door, you swear that the evil living within it is calling you. The lights from the car that filled into the house made shadows and almost making it seem that everything was moving slowly. By the time you reached the front of the house your passenger side of the car is facing the castle from about 30 feet-allowing you to continue around the Island of trees and brush to circle back onto the road from which you came. At that point, we stayed, and cautiously got out of the car, and it was like being there for the first time everytime. You kinda felt like you were in a movie, that at any moment, the unexpected was going to happen just because you knew that it could. Being there hundreds of times, at night it never got easy. During the day you felt like the sun warded off the demons and so they returned to the basement and underground tunnels where they hid in the shadows. It seemed safe in day, but believe me, after thinking too much and starting to hear un natural creeks and cracks, you end up making the visit short (when ur by your self-I wonder if I was the only one crazy enough to visit there alone..?) If anyone stumbles upon here with pictures of this place, I ask that you share them. Big props to you for being smart enough to capture a special piece of history to many of us from those days......I guess I always thought the place was to special to tear down, but the same nerds who didnt respect that I spoke of are probably the same types who went there smoking pot for the first time and freaking out and telling ignorant stories to their parents....Their probably the same idiots who would go there and spray paint heavy metal bands they just started listening to with there shiny brand new Metallica & Slayer shirts. Faggot asses... Anyway, I can go on and on. Its cool to have people here remembering this place. I got crazy stories to tell! One day soon I plan on taking a trip there to see whats left. Its been quite a while. Thanks for reading and sharing. I appoligise this is all over the place, Im speed writing.....Peace...

I remember the name Anderson - my older brother was friends with one of them.  Would love to see the pictures you have.  I have been searching for months trying to find something online that I could have printed or digitally reproduced for framing.  That's what happens when you get older - you want to hold onto the past.  Are you able to share the photos?

Ah yes, the Webster Castle...

No, it's not standing anymore.  It got torn down sometime after I left town to go to college.  It was kind of a creepy old house, but at the same time it was a really stunning piece of architecture.  I've looked for pictures on the net but I've never seen one, and my powers of description would not suffice to capture the beauty of the building.

The main thing to understand about the place was that it was really, really big, made of dressed stone, and had been abandoned for ages by the 1980s when I was wandering around in and around the grounds.   The closest I could come to describing it would be a dutch-style stone manor house, which is probably exactly what it was.  The only scary things about it were who you might run into there late at night - pseudo-satanic metalheads torturing housecats, drunken fraternity brothers and the like, as well as the fact that the place was falling apart.  It was only really active during the summertime and early fall, though - as soon as the weather got cold and wet most people stayed out of it, if for no other reason than the dirt access road would be impassable by car.

I used to go there on account of it was one of a very, very few places I could go in Rochester without having to spend money on anything, be able to smoke in peace and read or whatever else I felt like doing.  I never - even on the many nights I stayed over in the building - saw anything remotely ghost-like.  There was one night quite late where I thought I heard a child crying, but it turned out to be a raccoon in the basement.  It was a beautiful house.  If I'd had the money I would have restored it and tried to get it placed on the National Register of historic buildings - I've never seen anything else like it in America.

I knew this place very well. I went to the Y during the summer and got to play jail break around this house. Also at that time people were still living at the house for the next two years that i went to the Y. The house was abandonded due to the foundation starting to crumble especially under the garage which had a tunnel that led into the house. Before you came upon the circle to the house on the left side there was an inground pool which was filled in. Once the house was abandoned there were some retards that thought setting a fire would be cool and that was how the house came to be in its condition that most people knew it as. As far as being haunted all of that is either in your mind or just the house playing tricks on your mind.

I remember going to summer camp at the Y and sneaking back to the castle. By the time I was old enough to be exploring stuff like this, the castle was knocked down. Does anyone remember a tunnel that went out into the woods behind the castle? I remember walking in an area behind the castle and seeing a concrete entrance sticking out of the side of the hill. I didn't think to check it out and just assumed that it was part of the tunnels.

I attended camp at the Y and worked there for many years.  I have seen many crazy things such as spiritual encounters that I believe is left over from that building and land.  The land surrounding it used to be owned by the owners of the castle.  I have heard that it was all apple orchards way back but I dont know if that's the truth.  Sadly there is a lot of history that will be lost to history because no one wrote it down.  All that really remains are a few newspaper articles and pictures that are the property of the Bay View YMCA.  There is the last building of a senior assisted living home on the site of the castle.  But I remember everything as if it was yesterday.  I tried to keep that tradition with the camp alive for many years often taking my CIT's on tours and describing things as it once was.  There was always a lot of intrigue.

I have a vague recollection of the castle. The YMCA was run out of the castle till the new one was built. I attended around 1970 or so and we had to change our clothes in to swin suits in the basement and the inground pool was across the drive from the carriage house. Don't remember much about the inside though. There was a trail and creek running along side the castle down to Irondequoit Bay. In winter we would ride our runner sleds all the way down this winding trail to the bottom and sometimes onto the ice if we made it all the way. It was a long and trecherous ride. I've heard that there may have been a tunnel out to this trail. Never noticed one. Maybe could have been used during prohibiton? Too bad it is gone, but i have some good memories though.

I wish the person with pictures would post real links to them. Share them with those of us who are too young to remember what the castle looked like back in its day.

There is a facebook page that has a bunch of pictures but it is supposed to be achieved soon so I don't know how long the pictures will be available! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=122121586399
if you search for it in the facebook search bar it is the  "Kidd Castle aka The Webster Mansion / The Webster House" page. Good luck!

It doesn't work if you search for it using the search bar you have to copy and paste the web address ( http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=122121586399) in the navigation toolbar.

Well I bring a completely different perspective. I am one of 8 children named Anderson...and we lived in Kidd's Castle for several years. I believe we were the last Family to actually live there. All I can tell you about being haunted is it's just a  bunch of stories fueled by A very ominous looking building. For our family, it was an amazing place to live. The wine cellars the farmlands the woods surrounding the property and of course the bay through the woods. We lived there somewhere around 1960- 61... I have tons of family pictures of us while living there. My family consisted of seven boys and one girl as well as my mom and dad. I remember having to walk that Long driveway to get to the bus stop. Hearing all this about haunted sightings and then seeing all the graffiti really makes me sad to see it end the way it did.... I also remember there was a Little amusement park A few blocks away called Willow point Park. Lots and lots of childhood memories there but no ghosts.
