Location Description:

There is said to be children running and playing in room 243 at night, there also is said to be a ghost of John in the same room and can be seen walking around with a axe.. Rumor is that there was a mass murder in 1936.

hapyangel Online Now!	I cant find a single reference to there ever being a murder at that school. Unless someone can say otherwise I think this is just another school urban legend and have posted it as such.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	This is very true. I have graduated from this school and when kids stayed after outside around 8:30 every night there have been weird noises. I don't know if it is really true or not. But, more than likely it is. I stayed one day and I heard things falling and breaking. I don't know what that room is anymore though because they did do reconstructing since I've been there.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	This story is a hoax. It was written by a student (class of 2001) as a joke in reference to a teacher at the school. I attended Lansingburgh High School, class of 97. The only urban legend I have ever heard in all my years in the Lansingburgh school system was there used to be a pool in the basement of the school and was filled in after a child drowned in it. There are catacombs in the basement of the school though that stretch throughout the campus. They appear as though they could be from the days of the Knickerbacker family and the school campus was built over them. The old LES building referred to in a post above is not a large building at all and would not house even close to 200 rooms.

jennaasmilezz Last Seen: 2/24/2009 12:04:14 PM	ok i go to lansingburgh and i have heard of this .It is not a hoax its real and they built a new school .i drive past it almost every day.room 243 and john cipperly went crazy and killed a bunch of kids.some kids say when they are there at night they hear kids running and screaming and see a guy with an axe in his hand.also some say in the new school.The middle school which is connected to the new high school is haunted in the girls lockerroom.I have been down there when its dark and u can hear footsteps.i have heard them when i was with one other person.

AnonymousVisiter VIRGINIA US	Ok, so first, the legend was about the "old" high school located at 115th street. Years ago, it was the high school. My mother actually went there. I was born and raised in Lansingburgh and never heard these rumors. However once they started to surface (2001), I checked into it. They are "rumors" and NOT about John Cipperly but YES about a teacher named John. He supposedly suddenly went off deep end with an axe chasing children through the halls starting from room 243. The room number really has no bearing because you don't need to have 200 hundred rooms just 2 floors, which the buildings does have. It is said that at night you can hear childrens screams and things like chairs and desks moving. Who knows, maybe that part is true. Hauntings are not always from a bad incident.

I attended Knickerbacker Junior HS on 7th Ave, and Lansingburgh HS adjoining it and graduated in 1978. My 3 older brothers went to these same schools as did our father. If such a rumor circulated, we surely would have heard it. There is no truth to this fabrication whatever. There was a shotgun murder near 9th Ave in the late 1970's involving 2 classmates, but no reported hauntings there.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	I went to that school in the 70's, never heard of anything like that. A friend of mine actually found that kid (Paul Doty?) that got shot up by the tracks in 77 or so. The killer was underage so he got out of jail pretty quick- his dad had lots of money too so that helped.

AnonymousVisiter W US	first of all the adress is wrong it's in the zip code of 12182, second it's the LES building that is used for the BOE offices. and the story is not true, i graduated in 01' from LHS. i didn't hear about the story until after i was in the navy. that building is too small to even hold 200 rooms anyways.

There were a number of murders back in the 70's. Paul Doty was killed by on of the Elliot boys (Elliot insurance and he got 2 yrs. at a private school as his punishment last I heard the killer lives in NYC) Bunky Phillips ran a small bar out of a garage at 112th st. between 7th and 8th ave. HIs murder is unsolved. Then a guy shot his wife in the head on 112th st. on the west side of 8th ave.

Never made it up the steps it felt to weird I later found out the janitor there told me about how one day he had to go up there when it was dark and rainy and he had to check for a leak in the roof up there and in one of the rooms he heard desks and chairs moving. No one works in the third floor, its been "unoccupied" for years

Trust me i went up there with my friend and a janitor that is my friend and then she took us down to the gym and then the auditorium and there was nothing scary about any of it and also i know John Cipperly and he is still alive there is no ghost.

Tragic story of psycho story in reality....and no Elliot wasnt let out until 2002 and he was in a nut house...one look at my X who is Pauls nephew and he turned pale white (As the family as that time still lived a block from Ellot & Sons, the murderers father buisness)As he looks almost exactly like him did an about face and has been hiding since basically.

AnonymousVisiter * US	I do believe the story is a ghost of John and not the teacher himself. I think that implies that the teacher is already and has been dead. Hauntings can be created from any spirit, no matter the circumstances of their death and some spirits can move objects. The "Witching" or Haunting hour is at 3Am. Its pretty well known that spiritual activity is heightened with the dark of night, when the light is not present. (therefore werewolves and vampires) You know its interesting, in the bible it talks about demonic possessions and people going crazy while possessed. =also many believe that when something negative visits a location, that location becomes a sort of beacon of negative energy. (like Wigi boards, Demonic Rituals, Uncleaned Dreamcatchers, and the Human Imagination) Some people also believe that spirits don't necessarily haunt right away, typically, but does take time to become known that they are still around. Spirits, especially Demons seem to get stronger as they age and to have belief (or faith) strengthens/concentrates it as well. Anyway, interesting Legend.
