Location Description:

The story behind Acid Park is that a young teenage girl was driving one night while she was tripping on acid and wrecked her car and died. People say that her father dreamed about what he thought she was seeing when she wrecked. After that he put up all these reflectors, which is supposed to what he saw in his dreams. The car is still there on the dirt road. There are single reflectors placed everywhere, which is supposed to be the places the girl was seen after her death. July 2005 Update: Conflicting reports as to where this park actually is. Some say in Smithfield. Others believe Wilson. It looks like it is Wilson. AnonymousVisiter * US	I went to "Acid Park" for the first time after hearing and reading alot of stories about it. It is in fact just outside of Wilson, NC. Taking Hwy 301 South out of Wilson, turn right onto Wiggins Mill Rd. and go about 7 miles, you can`t miss it. I must say, after looking at the car just off the dirt road that is "wrapped" around a tree that, as the story goes, the girl died in, that part of the story is definitely made up. This was supposed to have happened about 40 yrs ago or so. The car is more than old enough to fit that time frame but the tree does not appear to be old enough to have been large enough 40 yrs ago for a car to wrap around and come to a dead stop. The tree clearly grew up through the spot where the engine used to be. There`s no sign of the engine or transmission anywhere. Also at the very front of the car AND in front of the tree there is an undisturbed chassis cross—brace between the frame rails. It`s very obvious that over the decades the tree simply grew up through the engine compartment. There`s also another very old junk car just a few feet away. I`ve also read postings from people who said that when they visited the site they actually talked to the old man himself and he said the whole story is made up. His only daughter is very much alive and is a nurse in Wilson. He just loves making is art called "whirligigs" a putting reflectors all over them, making them look spectacular at night. The person who said they talked to the old man didn`t say when they talked to him. Must have been before he died, assuming that he`s dead. Give us some information to support the story. AnonymousVisiter - -	Me and my grandma lived down the road from it. She remembers when it happened. The girl really did run into the tree one night and died. My grandma saw it all over the news. Down that road is the grave yard where she is buried. I've been multiple times. A couple times around 2 and 3. I have experienced weird things like seeing someone standing down the road and I've had other people come with me and see things like that. Also my car light would t turn off until I left that road and one night me and my friend were walking to the grave yard and the car door opened. I very much believe its haunted. How she crashed idk but it did happen.

AnonymousVisiter W US	the man is not dead the car is there i live in wilson i ahve been there and the girl above me kesha.. me and my freinds were comin off like 301 and we were taking are freind home who lives on the paved road right beside the dirt road and a car was behind us and if you have ever been on that raod you would know there is know turn off roads or anything its just a long dirt path...but any ways we were taking our freind home and a car was folowing us and it was on our tail comin up fast ...we all looked bakc for a min then i loooked to watch the road then i looked back and the headlights were gone.... and if you go real slow or stop your car there youwill hear noises...some say scrtaching of metal[much like a cra wrapping around a tree] some say the girls screamns skidding of the road...i personally heard some thing scratching on my car.. so dont say something isnt true till you been there...screw your science...ghost are unexplainable

The true story of why it is called Acid Park is because of th e affect you have when you turn the corner coming upon the park. Volis Simpson, a well known metal sculptor has several reflective whirlygigs by the crash.

Yes the car is old and fits the time frame and yes there are no signs of any remains of the engine or the transmission, but you have to relize that this place is open to the public, so yes there are going to be people to take certian parts of the car as Souvenirs. Even large parts of the engine and transmission, so they can sell them or what not. The park itself is under new ownership because the previous died, and yes the new owner has a daughter and still continues to build new additions to the park. Like the fence across the road with all the reflectors on it and what not. Its a very interesting place and I have been visiting it for years now.

AnonymousVisiter H -	Response to the post dated 2/6/2008. Who in the heck is going to go through all the trouble and effort to take an engine and transmission for a souvenir or to sell? People are only going to take small parts that they can easily pick up and walk away with, especially since they're stealing and have to do it without being caught. And as I said in my first post at the beginning of this discussion, evidence clearly shows that over the decades the tree simply grew up through the engine compartment. The engine compartment clearly is NOT wrapped around the tree. Also, as I said earlier, that tree would not have been large enough that many decades ago for a car to wrap around and completely push the engine out of the engine compartment. It's just an old abandoned junk car, just like the other one close to it. Nothing more than that.

He takes a special interest in the activities of those who some around at night to vandalize and play tricks. Just stop by and see him during the daylight hours - he's a very interesting man. But just leave him and his artwork alone if you are not interested in him from an artistic standpoint! Just be respectful - pathetic that this statement has to be pointed out to some but I was shocked to hear how many people go their just to cause problems. Grow up, find a hobby, just be nice. Trust me, you don't have to cut that tree down to know that there is no way it could have been large enough that long ago for a car to wrap around. It's a mute point anyway because anyone who goes and looks for themselves can clearly see that the car is not wrecked around the tree. AnonymousVisiter ** US	OK guys... if you don't believe me, it's all good, but i speak from experience seeing as how I am related to Vollis Simpson, the creator of acid park. I am his grandaughter, Allison, and I happen to live right down the road. Now please forgive me if I am ruining the fun for you, but this place is nothing but a legend, built up over time, and nothing but crazy stories that teenagers have dreamt up over the years, when they themselves were probably under the influence, to say the least! Anyway, it is said that this girl, the daughter of Vollis (aka> my mother) was driving down the dirt road late one night high on acid and crashed into the tree and that in her wake, my granddad built these monuments (windmills) in her memory to remind and warn people of the tragedy that occured here! Well, ITS ALL WRONG!!! He actually parked the car there, after purchasing it at a junk yard, over some twenty years plus ago and by happenstance, a tree grew up through the hood of the car! It's pretty ironic, and like i said, I'm terribly sorry if I ruined your fantasy, but I speak from living right down the road for 18 years now and actually being related to the guy! (And for the people who swear on their life that its real, please, get over it)(yet i will admit it makes a fun and spooky atmosphere, but other than that, its just another legend!)

AnonymousVisiter V -	I first visited "Acid Park" when I was about 16. The legendhashaunted me all these years, and the sheer beauty of the place was enough to sear it into my memory. I was telling a friend about it, and was surprised to find it online. I had no idea the place was such a known landmark! Being a paramedic and somewhat accustomed to the macabre, I was strangely disappointed that the story wasn't true! I would never wish ill will on anyone, but all these years that story was burned into my mind as a valid reminder of the dangers of driving while impaired. It also maintained a grip on that sentimental part of the adolescent brain that needed to believe in something just plain creepy. Now debunked, the mystery of "Acid Park" only grows with the legend of Vollis Simpson, who is the real hero of the story. His work, even outside the realm of the urban legend, is remarkable and ingenious. It is to be appreciated despite the fact that it was born of creativity and not tragedy. Maybe someday I will return there, as I have distant family that live in the area. Thanks for all the posts...it's been a really interesting read!

If you walk down the dirt path beside "Acid Park" you can still see the car over to your left, if vines haven't totally covered it. It's a cool place that you have to see...it can't even be explained. I beleive the legend has truth to it, there's definately been some creepy stuff going on out there if you walk that path at night...

AnonymousVisiter S US	It is true. I have been there for myself a couple of times. There is a old rusted car wrapped around a tree. The man yells at you if you get on his grass. The reflectors are beautiful. But it is a long dirt path with nothingness. It scares you if you drive down it. My friend heard some scratching noices and 'bout freaked out. But it is true. Mr. Simpson was actually there and my friends and I talked to him. He's a really nice guy and has created some interesting art. Also, its called "Acid Park" b/c if you're on acid the sight of the art will trip you out, especially at night.

A fried of mine interviewed Mr Simpson one time and got the real story. The true story is that the guy just loves windmills. I grew up in Wilson, and I first saw Acid Park when I was 17.... and drunk. We were all camping (and drinking) on some land my father owned in Black Creek. someone said, "Hey, let's visit Acid Park." It was pretty cool. Later on in college at ACC, I used to take dates there.

But, when we went there was a little boy who had to pee he wanted to pull over where the old man had put the reflectors up but his mama wouldn't. Bout time she was going to pull over there cause he wouldn't hush a car came out of nowhere from the dirt road and chased us out of there. It followed us for about a mile or a mile and a half and when we looked back it had disappeared. And it didn't turn off anywhere. This is not a lie this actually happened. And yes it is a awesome sight to look at.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	it's a totally GREAT place to take chics. tell them the fake story the whole ride there, let them see it and freak out, spook them a bit and then laugh all the way home. great experience. we went numerous times as a teenager and it is one really cool place. quite spooky at night, quite innocent and amazing during the day. we even climbed in the car and acted like we were driving it. the same night my friend's car's electricity went out. in the middle of nowhere. no cell signal. total darkness. and then an incredibly nice couple on a motorcycle stopped, went home to get some gas and came back. fortunately the car was carburetor. he told us the real story. we never messed with the old man though. we were respectable. he shot someone a few years back for vandalizing his property. anyway really cool place i hope someone continues where he left off

AnonymousVisiter ** US	My whole family is from Wilson, NC . The girl really did crash her car there, my grandma knew her . And i've heard a lot of claims they've seen the girl . Her mother left her father shortly after the death, and her and her new husband started builing a house, and the girls father hung himself while they were building, the house is still there in Wilson today, I know cause I've been there . The only thing in the house is a mirror, a bathtub, the cabinets, and the rope is still hanging . I've never seen the girl though, but my friends claim they have.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	I went to Acid Park tonight to show a friend of mine where it was. Of course I told her the various stories behind it. There seemed to be alot of traffic tonight. She took a few pictures some from across the street and some while we sitting on the dirt road. We then drove down the dirt and I accidently drove passed the car and came up to the cemetary just passed the car. So I backed up down the road to the car so that could look at it. At this point I was already very nervous. We sat there a few minutes then she began telling me we needed to leave, to back up. Now my mirrors go down when I put my car reverse and I have a back up camera. I kept thinking that is a very bright light in that mirror (passenger side mirror) and I thought what is all that showing up in the back up camera? So of course we were teying to get out of there. When we were out of the area she said, "did you hear that noise? It sounded like someone was trying to open the door, like they were trying to get in!" We then looked at the pictures, the ones taken on the dirt road were blurry looking and a white spot at the top, the others were clear. I don't know what this was but it makes you think. The artwork and detail is amazing!

wilsonparanormalhunters Last Seen: 12/8/2011 1:37:45 PM	I have been to Acid Park. there is a little house on the path a little ways down that i came across and went in and got a few EVP's and and few strange stuff on my camcorder. and in a few of the pictures i took i got a few blood spots on the walls, one spot in the house is the little bedroom down the hall. me and a friend of mine went in the room and the walls looks stand up but no blood on them. So i took a few pictures and when i took a look at them it looked to me and my friend that there was a few blood spots on them. then we went out of the room and made our way down the hall to the back room and saw a stuffed toy dog on a table at the end of the hall and it was seating str8 up and at the point we eared a loud bang and truned around to see what it was. didn't see anything so we truned back around and looked back at the toy dog and it was laying down on its side and the eyes where glowing red. and at that moment we ran out of the house and didn't look back...
