Location Description:

Being right beside a cemetery, the old school for girls is pretty creepy. Rumor was that the gardener killed some girls and hid their bodies. It is said that if you go there at night, you will be chased out by ghosts and your car will have trouble starting. It is also said that when you are leaving you will see the gardeners ghost sitting on the steps of the church by the cemetery. Reports of a girl singing.

From Mifflintown, take SR 3002 [old Rt. 22] towards Mexico. At the blinking traffic light [intersection of SR 3002 and Rt. 75] turn right, driving south/west about 5 miles through the town of Port Royal). Continue on Rt. 75 until reaching the Spruce Hill Lunch. At this point the road forks: take the right fork SR 3013. Drive approximately 1.5 - 2 miles to a stop sign, intersection of SR 3013 and SR 3008. Turn left. Go very short distance turn right onto SR 3015. At next stop sign the Tuscarora Academy is on the left.

scaredinpa Last Seen: 1/16/2008 8:05:12 PM	I ve been up to the school a few times in the daylight. there is still a visible driveway, the building is nearly all fallen down except for part of the front porch. if you look in the front ground floor windows you can see old shelves and benches and some grafitti sprayed on the walls. The owner prohibits people from going on the grounds but we kinda snuck up one evening. we didn`t hear or see anything out of the ordinary. there are people who live very close to the school. there is not much written on this school, if anyone has any information please let me know.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	first of all the old girls school, and the tuscurora academy are the same place. i've been there like six or seven times and only got out twice. the first time my friends and i walked around up there not realizing we were there, they now have a garage built on top of the school's foundation. the second time that i got out and walked up there my friends and i heard crunching coming towards us. im not completely sure if the rumors about the place are completely true. all that i heard was that i was a girl's school that existed in the 1800's. word is that a janitor/ gardener went insane one day and took all the girls, raped and killed them, then hung their bodies in the near by trees. i also heard that he then cut them down from the trees and threw their bodies down the well. nothing personally extremely scary has ever happened to me, except for the crunching coming towards me, and i have always heard a dog barking when i got out of the car. my friend said that when she went up there for the first time she saw the black dog. my other friend said that when he was up there he saw the janitor, dressed in a white tuxedo and white hat, pointing at them and smiling. my friend's parents said that they were there when it was still standing, and the first night they went in the building and saw stairs, and the next night they went up there again and there were no stairs. i will continue to go up there, hoping someday to get scared beyond control, but for now academia still disappoints me.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	The Tuscarora Academy [boy's school] and the Tuscarora Female Seminary [girl's school] were not the same school or building. The Female Seminary was situated on the hill above the cemetery and the Academy, which still exists, sits at the intersection of Academia Rd and Academy Rd.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	me my girlfriend and her brother and our friend there was 6 of us and when we when up we saw something hoping from tree to tree and then we saw something runing through the grave yard and it creeped us out but we didnt go to were the school was located we was at the grave yard by the church and we tried to get pics but nuthing cam up but it is freaky

AnonymousVisiter ** US	I was there several times with my friends and we had some experiences but nothing really scary. The dogs barking we found out are the dogs on the near by farm. We heard a young girl singing Happy Birthday, We took pictures and caught the face of a man who had a beard. It is a creepy place but most of the history on the place was destroyed in the fire. I get feelings of a little girl trying to get me to follow her into the woods where they just built a new house. The bodies of the murdered girls were never found, I feel that they might be in the woods under the new house, I wonder if the owners of this house experience anything strange. I have researched as much I can on the Old Girls School and it is like all information on the place has vanished along with the fact that no one will talk about it. I did find out that it was the gardner who was to have murdered the girls, people at the school knew hew was doing the torturing of the girls but did nothing to stop it. I wish I could talk to one of the little girls spirit to find out what really happened, but that is very doubtful.

AnonymousVisiter ** US	The Tuscarora Academy which sits at the intersection of Academy Rd. and Academia Rd. below the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church was a secondary school for young men which operated as such until about 1878 when it began accepting women students. The Tuscarora Female Seminary or Institute was a secondary school for young women. The Female Seminary was built on the hill above the Church/cemetery and operated beginning about 1856. Contrary to what is often repeated in Juniata County it operated through the 1860's until 1872 and then again for a year between 1877-1878. The Female Seminary did not burn down. The building was 'taken apart' by an owner to built a residence in Mifflintown and was abandoned. It fell into ruins due to neglect and probably damage by termites or carpenter beetles. There is no evidence that any murders occurred there; newspapers from the time period do not report this. This is a county myth so often repeated that it has many variations.

AnonymousVisiter * US	I have heard many different stories regarding the Old Girls School.... How ever most of them all have truth to them... I truely think that the whole issue was not only covered up by the state, and Juniata County.. But also the girls familes... I understand that what ever the truth is was painful, but people do have a right to know historical facts... Ironically most of thoses families more in likely quick to jump or be interested in any other haunted site areound here.. I think its hypacritic that Juniata County is big on The founding History.. yet so quick to cover up their secrets..Tho they are part of the history as well.... I have talked to family members that have passed down the same informationfrom person to person from that time era and its not just " The building was torn down"" I can not tell the complete story because I only know bits and pieces which is not enuff to make up a complete story....I do however feel that maybe as much as the truth may hurt.. It may honestly set another free.. who is to say that maybe if there even are spirits of the girls around lingering that.. thats why they r still here... Maybe the truth will let them move on...My question is...Why is Juniata County so hypacritic? I thought they were historic?
