Amity Hall Hotel Amity Hall There was a young woman found stabbed to death laying on the front porch on a couch. The legend has it that there was a family that lived in it and the husband went crazy and killed his wife, then his kids, then himself in the upstairs hallways/rooms of the hotel. IN the days of the PA Canal system, canal travelers used to stay there, then in the civil war days it was used as a hospital. IF planning to visit this place – try to get permission it says no trespassing When you get permission bring plenty of batteries, because they drain quickly. In the corner of the Lshaped building, very small bluish lights have been. The creepier place on the outside is a door at the end of a hall which is locked shut. The worst room in the house is upstairs, the trophy room. This room is filled with a giant feeling of "GET OUT OF HERE". The glass and mirrors are all broken. Very faint white figure of what appears to be a woman in the attic window facing the parking lot can be seen. white flashes of light in the attic windows facing the road have been seen. Faint glows fading in and out of the windows, as well as small but somewhat bright points of light coming from the corner of the Lshape. Frightening black figures, not the shape of a dog, but about the size of a dog, linger in the parking lot. (I believe they are called imps) A particularly vengeful spirit has sat outside of cars in which males are present. It’s believed it is the wife whom the husband beat to death and left on the front porch. It is also said that you can experience reenactments of the murder right in front of you.

I have been to this property on numerous occasions. The first time I went was at night and the lights mentioned in the article are true.I took many pics with my digital camera and found many had orbs in them, but did not encounter any shadowy figures. I have not gone inside and probably won't due to the owner and surrounding law enforcement patrolling the area.I've had friends go there only to be chased out by shotgun!!! If you venture beware that the owner does not like all of the negative publicity and the tresspassers it brings.I can't prove if it's haunted or not.All I know is that it would make a great haunted house at Halloween. It's ashame all that property has gone to waste.

I have been there twice I believe. First time with a video camera and a bunch of people the only thing scary was a bat that flew over us inside, but the fact that there were still like a bunch of beds was eerie, a soda machine thrown down one stair case, a porch door up stairs slamming with the wind...I was never really scared just havin fun...but then I saw this page where you said A vengeful spirit outside present when males are around and I/m like getting goosebumps just thinking about it but one of the times we went as we pulled up to the dead end part where there is a bunch of construction equipment a pick up truck was sitting there with a guy in it....so we u-turned and decided to turn around drove around for a bit then returned to the guy standing outside of his truck just standing beside his truck ...not looking at us or the building, just with his right shoulder to the truck like that....so we thought it was odd but we parked..waited a bit..drove away again, he was STILL there...came back after just turning around at the next exit and him and his truck was gone...then we went inside..even though the girls really didn't want to...like i said it never seemed odd other than him standing there all weird ...until I read this Page and realized that we had 3 guys and 3 girls

I've lived in Perry Co. for 29 years and have been passing this place in my travels up 322 since I got my license 20 years ago. Never really gave a second thought to it...till today. So I pulled off the exit and drove up to the place. It's basically an abandoned hotel rotting away and doing no good to anybody. There is a chain link fence w/ barbed wire around the whole place and the entire property is CLEARLY marked NO TRESSPASSING. I noticed a black electrical wire zip tied about chest high running the whole length of the fence and encircling both gates. I did not know what this wire might have been, until I read a post on another thread. It's a perimeter alarm. Needless to say I did not touch the fence. I was curious about it and all I really wanted to do was go and look at it. I'm a big fan of architectural design. I WOULD NOT try to breach the fence, especially after reading some of the posts on here ("...fence will be electrified soon." WTF?!?! Are you kidding me? Can they do that?) The place looks very dangerous, the balcony and porch are collapsing, and the roof has had it , like, 50 years ago. Personally, what comes to mind for me when I hear the name Amity Hall is the womans torso (Edna Daisey, was it?) they found along the bank of the Juniata (or was it Susquehanna?) river in Amity Hall back in the '80's. Not only was that documented and very real, it's way creepier than this dilapidated old hotel. I even saw a documentary on TV about that incident. Shoot, I didn't even know these urban legends existed about Amity Hall. BTW, I didn't hear or see anything out of the ordinary in the 15 minutes I spent here. Best advice, looky no touchy. L8er

Well you will no longer be able to go look at this place or visit it.. a couple of people set it on fire and as of right now it is fully engulfed and are not able to save any of it. It is a shame!

i have been in the place maybe a few months before they put the fence up in the summer of 08 and i would have to say it was the creepiest excperiance i have ever been through.. the place is/was haunted. there was about 10 of us there and we were all walking though the building together and we kept hearing whispering and things being moved around. i know you are prolly thinking it was one of the 10 people but i insure you it wasnt. we have/had pictures and some of the pictures had blury figures in them. we saw lights in the attic when we pulled into the parking lot to go around to the back of the building. while we were walking around we saw spray paint all over the place along with broken glass and other stuff. the vending machine in the middle of the stairs. we somehow got to the basement and that was the weirdest place in the house. i know none of these say anything about the basement but i was very creepy. there were a lot of cold spots in the house also. while we were leaving there was a shadow standing outside by our cars so we ran back into the house and went up on the deck thats in the back of the house so we could see if or when it would leave/ go away. we spent about 25 minutes on the deck not making a sound since we didnt know if it was a real person or not. finally the shadow disappeared. when we were walking down stairs someone said we should go out the basement door just incase. so we did and when 7 of us got out the shadow appeared again in the parking lot. it started walking towards us so the 7 kids ran the whole way around the building while 3 of us just ran to our cars. we spent no time getting out of there. now it just sucks that these kids burnt the place down since it has been around for so long, but maybe it was for the best. actually 4 of the 7 kids that were cought, were with me when we went.

Wow! That place is still haunted even after the fire. Did you visit it before the fire? Did you get the same creepiness before and after that happened? I thought maybe there would be a change because I always felt that the brick section was the creepiest part of the building, and now that section is just a pile of bricks. I went there during the daytime since the fire and did not feel much of a vibe. Then again, it was during the daytime... To the person who lived in Perry County 29 years, I have a comment about the story you told (the woman's torso).. in February of 09 I took some pics of Amity Hall at night, and one of them had a thick white smoke in it..and, this is nuts, but it looks like there is a vague image of a woman's head and shoulders in the smoke. She has dark hair and looks to be wearing a dark dress. It could be a fluke but how often do we see symmetrical images in smoke, clouds etc? I use my imagination sometimes but it looks clear to me. When you told that story I just about fell off my chair! Also there were vague animal-looking faces in the smoke. Again, they were symmetrical, not likely for a fluke. Ok now that I've gotten everyone riled up I just want to say please, please do not enter the building. It is probably not safe to enter especially after the fire. It is on private property anyway and you could get in a lot of trouble. Especially after the recent attention it has gotten, on the news. Also, this is from a supernatural standpoint but if you go and start feeling really bad vibes, or especially scared, leave right away. Different people have different reactions, but trust your feelings and be safe. When I went there in February it was one of the scariest experiences..my knees were shaking.

I was one of the firefighters on the first piece of fire equipment on the scene. Man did that place look crazy all light up with fire. I must say that I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. I only found out about the rumors of it being haunted after it had burnt. It sure was a crazy night with a fast moving fire. Its a shame we couldnt save more of the building  but due to safety concerns we were not allowed inside the building. I am not sure if the pictures are still up but if you go to www.duncannonfire.com there were pictures.

The murder story is pure rubbish. I've lived here for almost 60 years and there's never been paranormal activity at Amity Hall Inn. Not every old building has a mysterious past. There are reputable historical articles written about the place and there's never been a mention of anything unexplainable. I think this is an out-of-towner concoction.

WHY would this person go through all of this to SECURE the property if it is to be demolished??? All of this makes absolutely no sense to me. There was SOMETHING that happened in that house and Mr or Mrs "neighbor", you are full of crap about going there and visiting with the caretaker or perhaps they just did not tell you the truth about it because if nothing happened there and it is condemned or due to be demolished, it would have been already. 20 years from now, our children or grandchildren will be looking at that house as we do the Iron Kettle or certain places down in Gettysburg area... the "caretaker"-- if he or she told you that nothing happened... just did not want word to spread on that the fact that something happened has been CONFIRMED....

That's all true but too bad it burnt down there is pretty much nothing left now its just a fence around a pile of ash some kids went in and decided to make a fire in the fireplace because they were cold. So all because they wanted to see some ghost's they burnt down a peice of our history here in PA.

there isn't even any reported things to happen there, i know people who have been there and there's nothing even scary. Its been burnt only part of it is left standing so i dont know how people keep saying stuff about it, saying that its haunted because its not. so stop talking about it like it is. THANKS!

I don't know if the site is still haunted after the building burned, but I went there quite a few times from the mid 80s through the late 90s, sometimes with 'ghost hunting' equipment and I can assure you that there was some really nasty stuff going on there. I have seen the dogs on multiple occasions, I have been chased out of the building both from the second floor and the first. Sometimes by police, more often by things that cannot be easily explained. It is a shame that the place had been vandalized so badly and even worse that it has burned.  I never got to go into the basement but wanted to very badly. Has anyone ever bothered to go down there?
