Train Tunnel Legend and locals claim on a rainy night a young boy in the 1800's was driving his horse and buggy over railroad tracks to take a short cut when the train came and collided with the buggy, the boy's head was severed and his body found a piece of stove pipe which it placed where his head would be, now on rainy nights after dark if you walk the tracks and call "Stove Pipe" three times his ghost will appear to you.

Its not the tunnel into Pumpkin Run Park. There is a road called Horse Shoe Bend directly up from the tunnel. At the turn of the last century, early 1900's, a man was coming down Horse Shoe Bend in his horse & buggy when the buggy overturned and the mans head was cut off by the whel of his wagon. When some men from town went to retrieve the body they said his neck was so flattened out that it resembled a stove pipe. About a year later, on the same road, a person was traveling by & thought he saw the headless body laying along side the road. Later the myth about Stovepipe began. If you go up Horseshoe Bend and stand at the 'bend' and say 'Stovepipe, Stovepipe, I found your head!' You can hear Stovepipe come up the embankment. The tunnel myth was started by some kids who have no knowledge of the town. If you go under the tunnel and into Pumpki Run Park and follow the road back then go across the creek, you will see a pile of cut stones. about 100 years ago there was a town back there called 'Casebear Hollow' and there was a stone quarry, a rock dust mill, as well as 10 houses. The stone quarry is a place where a lot of strange happenings have occured. Its been said that sometimes you can hear eerie flute notes coming from near the quarry, and rumor has it that there is a flight of stairs that take you under the quarry and there are supposed to be some kind of evil things that live there. Further back in the park is a place called 'Mooney Rocks' where someone fell to thier death from them. If you follow the creek you will eventually find yourself near the foundation of an old grist mill where the body of Debbie Makel was found in October 1973. Debbie was an 8 year old girl snatched from her home and murdered & raped. They never caught her killer and it is well known he still lives in the Rices Landing area. How do I know these things? I've lived here for almost 65 years. The train over that tunnel last ran in the 1930's, and nobody could drive a buggy over it because it was too narrow. Just be careful when you come here exploring. The town council is very unfriendly, and the obese mayor likes to throw his weight around and has physically & verbally attacked people over nothing at all.

I lived in Rices Landing for 29 years, hoping to move back soon. The Stovepipe story has been handed down as long as I can remember. There is a very sharp turn in the road above Pumpkin Run (hence the name Horseshoe Bend)where Stove pipe lost his head.If you stand on the turn and call his name at midnight,he'll appear.I plan on getting photos this weekend and posting them to my blog.(www.swpare.blogspot.com) Pumpkin Run itself is full of legend.I'm not sure where the stone quarry was,but i thought it was actually up near the bend.Mooney Rocks is further up in the park.I've never heard of anyone falling to their death up there, but in the summer, its chock full of copperheads! The Debbie Makel story is true and is still unsolved to this day.I was just little when this happened, but remember the search. The area where she was found, was searched the evening before. Many claim she was placed there after the fact.I plan on delving into this as well. For such a crime to committed in such a peaceful town to an innocent child is bad enough, but for it to remein unsolved maked it that much worse! Stay tuned!

Why did Randi post on her blog about the Debbie Makel story and then remove it? I grew up there. I know who everyone thinks did it. What kind of power does he have that makes people cover up or not investigate the murder of a little girl?

yes  there is definitely alot of cover ups in the debbie makel case. did you know there was a visiting photogragher in the area and the last house he stopped at was on the hill  to the makel residence. my family had to give a description of this man to detectives who did a perfect sketch of him., he was from uniontown. isnt it strange he didnt stop at any other homes up the hill after school. he was looking for children to photograph.  also there was a rumor of a sex ring in the area of prominent business men who  were involved in child pornagraphy, that knew she was alone when her mom worked at the nemacolin factory. also a rumor of a pervert that knew the family and saw her get off the bus and walk home alone and had access to the woods when hunting and knew his way in and out of the woods and dressed in camoflauge clothes most of the time.  no one would have suspected him as he carried an army bag over his shoulders  wherever he walked. the stories go on and on but  the authorities will not open their ears. wonder why.

Please give the family some peace and respect and stop discussing their child in public forums. That must be hurtful to them and I can only imagine how you would feel if it were your child.

If it were my child I'd never stop looking for answers.
Shame on people for keeping their filthy secrets.
