Hogback RoadIt is said that the area was and is still used by the KKK. There is a bridge,it is said people were killed under this bridge. If you put your keys on the bridge for 5 mins,Your car will not start. The road is very bad tho. Its is really hilly and also has no winter maintance. Be alarmed we recentaly walkedup a hill with what looks like a path on it. It is said a the top is the meeting ground. We were walking up the path when i turned the light on the camera on, there in the woods we then seen a white figure. We did not stick around long enough to investigate it. October 2004 correction: The family that died under the bridge were early setlers in the area from the late 1700's (when the county began to be settled) and some have reported the mother frantically looking for her childen in the underbrush. You can hear the rustling of the bushes and a plaintive call in the distance. Some have reported that she carries a glowing taper or lantern.

ha yea me and some friends of mine went to hogback bridge after hearing of the haunted story behind it. we of course had seen nothing or heard nothing out of the ordinary but it is true that a girl died near hogback in a car accident and she did go to brookfield...there are memorial things on that road for her if you dont believe me..other then the fact that this bridge may be a dumping place for bodies...there is NO HAUNTING on hogback and those who have created this myth obviously were on drugs or paranoid from stories that have been told about this infamous bridge..

I have lived just off Hogback Road almost my whole life — these stories are all fake — myths!!! Other versions are people who have been murdered — because there have been quite a few murders and dumped bodies there! But the settler story is all fake — I myself have walked up and down the road (that I live on) and nothing freaky has ever happened!!!

I have been down hogback hollow I lived in the area for. 19 years it is rumored that the woman is looking for her children that drown in their carriage accident when you turn off your vehicle she will appear with her lantern.

i used to live there and my boyfriend at the time told me that there was an amish women that was driving a buggie home with her baby and some teenagers in a car were driving up hog back road ran her off the bridge killing her and her baby. he also said that at midnight on halloween if you park your car on the bridge it will not start. and you may hear a ladie yealling for her lost baby. so one night not on halloween we decited to drive up there. i was driving and as soon as we got to the bridge i heard someone screaming. Scared to death i turned the car around as fast as i could then went back down over the bridge. i heard it again. Then saw something glowing in the trees. lets just say that was the 1st and last time that i would ever drive up there.

I live in the area, and I know this road well. I can see things from both sides of the fence. Skeptic: I've heard everything from a being witch hung in one of the trees to the infamous lady with the lantern you hear about everywhere. I've driven up and down that road more times than I can count and the only thing that I've ever seen are a bunch of drunken/stoned idiots (aka: my neighbors) wandering around and looking for a good time scaring explorers. Also, KKK the meeting ground being referring to, if it's where I think it is, would be someone's driveway. Yes, someone really does live on this road. Believer: This really is a known body dumping site, and I've recently heard a LOT of reports of a shadow in the Hogback area as well as the woods around it. It's reported to be curled up into a ball at first and is sometimes rocking back in forth, but is usually mistaken for a bolder or large rock. Then as the person(s) approach, it stands and starts walking towards them. At this point, the story teller has usually run away, but the stories are so eerily similar, I have to wonder. Also, a quick update on Hogback Road: Due to the very poor condition of it, the infamous bridge has been taken out and replaced with a safer, less steep hill/bridge. There is a place where you can turn off where the bridge USED to be, and a path leading back into the woods if you feel like exploring. However, BE WARNED that cops like to scope the area out and, even if there aren't any ghosts, this is a known coyote and deer area.

From where I live, I can see the sign for Hogback Rd., I am that close. I've lived here specifically for 4 years and have seen nothing but the drunk, stoned teens as mentioned before. Also, I have lived in Hermitage my whole life, and as a weird teen myself went to "Hogback Hollow" regularly, and still have seen or heard nothing. Though I would REALLY love too, as I am very open minded. I think it would be really cool to live near something haunted!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for that last post!!! That's what I'm saying!!! It is a bad road in regards to the maintenance of the road (and it's steep) but that bout sums up the "BAD" part. Other than a few murders nothing else has happened.

4 friends of mine and I stopped on the bridge one time to 'do teenager things' and all of us witnessed a bright blue orb shaped light coming at us at an incredible rate from the woods. We all jumped back in my car and took off as fast as we could. Neither I or any of my friends have returned there since and we are all in our thirties. Some of them are skeptics and still cannot explain what we seen.

Oh well - the road is much better now - they've completely replaced the old bridge, widened and repaved almost the whole entire road, and it really is much better. Probably still bad in the winter but MUCH better in general! All the hype is exactly that - HYPE and eventually will all go away!

I was born and raised in Hermitage and for the past 30 of my 45 years have hunted and been in the woods in and around Hogback hollow in the day and as a teenager at night. There is nothing strange or otherworldly going on. Have tried to envoke the spirits that are supposedly there with no luck.

i went there last night, it was my best friends 16 birthday party & we were using a ouija board and decided to go out there. the ouija board stated there were spirits around and then out of no where, no one touching the board, it cracked right down the E the R the 4 and the 0. as we were getting ready to pull away, after the car would NOT start - my other friends car was behind us and as we pulled up alittle we could hear them screaming and no movement of their car. they then called us and told us to look out towards the right, we ended up having to turn around because we were too far away. when we pulled in front, there was a white figure walking slowly, then faster and faster towards our car. we did not stick around to see what was going to happen, but at that moment, i knew something was occuring. either, KKK or spirits, something was haunting that area. i have never been one to believe in this sort of elements, until last night.

I do not live on hogback road or even in hermitage. I live in Sharpsville and my friends and i have been there every year the week of halloween for the past 5 years. Nothing happened. Ever. We even went in december during basketball season, twice. the weather was clear so we had no difficulty driving. However, my father, my friend's father, and my cheerleading coach had all advised us about the area. You get to the hollow and there is an extremely steep hill that you have to drive down. Be careful of this section because your car will very likely bottom out. The road is very windy an the old bridge is no longer there. The road has been paved and it runs through the woods over a creek. There are no houses surrounding the road. You are supposed to put your car in neutral, turn it off but keep your headlights on. BE ADVISED: If you are attempting to do this, be extremely conscious of your surroundings for it is hard for cars coming the other way to see over the hill before the "bridge." Deer are also very common here so watch out. According to my cheerleading coach, a green fog is supposed to appear and you are supposed to hear a scream. That didn't happen. My friend's dad said a mentally ill man lives in a shack farther in the woods and if you get out and walk around he is said to chase you with a knife. I don't know how true this is we never walked through the woods at night. My own father who has lived near hermaitage his whole life forbid me from going there. He never said why though. It is possible that there is some cult activity. I am not sure how true it is that the cult is the KKK though. It is a FACT that for several, several years, many teenagers have wrecklessly partied down in the creek. Many of those teenagers did drugs down there and it is rumored that this legend has developed from the hallucinations of these teenagers. I am a teen myself and I don't suggest doing so because police do drive through this area at night due to past activities. While in the Hermitage area, i do suggest driving by the "tinfoil house." it is super freaky. The man who lives inside wrapped his house in tinfoil and christmas lights so that "aliens" don't "read his mind" etc...

I'm sorry to hear they replaced the old bridge, though understandable it was in terrible shape 25 yrs ago.  My dad used to take me and my friends down that road at night and when we would get to the bottom he would pretend we were out of gas or something until we would all start freaking out, then he would start driving and jerking the car saying " I think they got ahold of our bumper!"  What a blast.  I miss him!
