I live near the place. The story circulated locally deals with the building being built over an indian burial ground.

I go to the Red Rose every wed night. From what i have heard, a indian was hung outside the inn on the old tree out front. i have also heard of the indian burial ground, but the most seen ghost is that of a little girl. One night last year after the bar closed, the bartender, my girl and I were sitting around finishing up a drink and he said to come with him. we went into the back room (the original basement) and he locked the cellar door to upstairs. about 6 minutes later, we went back adn he showed me it was unlocked. we were the only ones left in the biulding, and i was the one to check that it was locked. so again, and again we locked it, and again and again it unlocked itself... no ghosts or anything, but that was real freaky...

I've heard the little girl is named Emily, and she was murdered there. An angry mob mistakenly accused an Indian named Joe of the crime, and hung him in a tree on the property. He is allegedly buried in the basement. After they hung him, they realized he was innocent. It's said the girl is frequently seen playing upstairs.

I want to know more about "Emily" and her murder . . . how old was she at that time? What makes you so sure that she was murdered? Why did the people think that "Joe" murdered her and did they ever find out who the real murderer was?

Please write back :)

Being married to the chef of Red Rose Inn we lived upstairs in that beautiful building in 1959/60. Unfortunetly I did not know about nor did I ever see a ghost there and I love ghost stories.

There were acres and acres of Star Roses growing behind the Inn, lovely.

I would like to go back and visit the Inn but understand it is now closed and for sale. I hope it is preserved.

It would be such a shame for the Red Rose Inn to be torn down. It is a piece of history and should be preserved.
