Location Description:

Sometimes at night if you are standing on the sidewalk in front of the building and look up in the right hand window on the top floor you can see a shadow of a lady or a lady in a white blouse (or maybe the curtain) looking outside. Warren County Historical Society is located in the STRUTHERSWETMORESCHIMMELFENG HOUSE which was constructed between 1870 & 1873 as a wedding gift from Thomas Struthers to his daughter Anna Eliza upon her marriage to George Wetmore. It now houses the Society's offices, library, archives, period exhibit rooms and featured displays. The Historical Society Library is located on the main floor and is open to the public.

I grew up 7 miles north of Warren & they are right.  THis building is haunted.  The one that you are missing in this listing is the YWCA building on 2nd avenue.  The ghost of Alice Wetmore is there.  Many people have seen her including myself & my ex husband.  The funniest thing I ever saw was him when she went right by him & up the stairs.  He looked at me & yelled did you see her!!??  She just went by me & up the stairs.  I laughed my but off.  One night I was there by myself & was in the meeting room.  There is one door from the kitchen that locks from the kitchen side & it ended up not opening.  I knew that there was no one else in the building as it was locked & I had the key.  The temp in the room also dropped considerably & I had every haair on my body standing on end.  I very nicely asked her to open the door & if she did that then whenever I was there I would talk to her.  After about 10 minutes I was able to get out the foor & finish the work I had to do before I left.  After that night every time I was in the building I would talk to her.  You could always tell when she was there.

Stories have it that the building that was the Jefferson Tea House was built for her husbands mistress ( that building is right beside the YWCA building).  Alice I hear commited suicide by throwing herself in front of the trolley that went down 4th avenue.
