Interesting location with a long and violent past going back to the Indians that lived in the area. However, no record can be found of said bus accident. That tale is believed to be an Urban Legend.

Old state road is haunted. I go all the time. Believe and you'll see. Dont believe you want. I lived down the other end of old state not the dirt road but the other end in sandy run. Like i said been plenty of times . I've seen a girl in a dress vanish. I've seen people at 3 in the morning with headlamps down by the plant walking and disapeer. It's crazy as shit man. Everybody knows not to fuck around on old state. The tracks isn't true. The bridge you at night you will see and hear things. We party on old state and go mudding. It's very muddy. The river is near. The red eyes yall talk about is raccoons. Any country boy would know this. Haha raccoons eyes are red in the dark u can see them in trees. I was on the bridge one night and heard stomping behind me like something running at me. All my buddies was there we heard it. Also, there's a white Monte Carlo very old, creeps up in down old state round 2 in te morning. 2 guys 2 chicks. They are weird as fuck. Catch em on the bridge. Also walk into te woods of old state at night near the tracks, you'll hear chicks screaming. Little girls screeching. Also kkk is out here u gotta think of we're your at if your a nigger stay out we don't like you. I hope you have a truck on old state.. Or a car with flat tires so u can slide over the mud, i taken a Pontiac down there and some trucks can't get thru. I live old state. I go in off old wire road and goes right into "mud state" or go in through sandy run

I visited old State Road over the weekend and it changed my skeptical ways. At the beginning of the road there is an old church with Satanic symbols burned into the stairs. It is said that no matter what is done to cover up the symbols (washing, painting over them, etc), the symbols "bleed" through and can be seen. I took several pictures of these stairs in several different settings, and all of the pictures were blank, when at least three should have shown up.

Ive been there many times and have not been able to find this church. I have seen one church, towards the middle of the road, but it is a baptist church beside this mans property. So where would I go to find this "satanic" church. Paranormal things intrigue me, and in addition to this question, if you have any knowledge of any other things regarding similar topics, please, enlighten me.

The reason the pics were blank is because there are no satanic symbols on the stairs of that church.  That is simply not true.  That church is in good upkeep as it is still in use.

All of the stories on Old State Rd is true. The church was an old Pagan Church as well as the oldest cemetary at the end of the road

Hmmm well there are 2 churches on old state 1 at the beginning and 1 at the near end. However I do know where the REAL satanic church is. Before you get to the church that is still in use near the end (nearest to the OLD graveyard) It's on the left and a HUGE iron chain blocks the way. Now before you ask how to get there there is a 4 way dirt street to the right is some sort of industrial plant to the left of the 4 way is the driveway to someones house. Now go straight and you will see it on your left. But bear in mind it would be best to go with a large group. Me and two other friends went there. And i saw things the were well VERY not human. Both as spirits and people.

old state rd. definitely is a creepy place w/ a lot of history. originally a cherokee indian trail, and a main route from charleston to columbia and lots of revolutionary and civil war history. i find the bridge particularly creepy. one night my brother and some friends stopped out at the bridge making jokes about a woman being dead in the water, and we got into the car and the car began speeding up w/ no feet on the gas pedal and w/ both feet on the brakes for a long way at speeds of close to 60-70 mph. finally got the car to stop and even after i put it into park it continued to roll. crazy but true story, won't make that joke again.

the best place to start on that road is to first go to the st. mathews exit( i believe its exit 119) and go to the right where all the shitload of signs and intersections is and go down intersection which says columbia and before you get to acceleration ramp to get back on the interstate there is a small , somewhat paved/dirt road to the right called " old Pine Plain Rd." turn onto it. after bout one minute of drivin down the road you will come to the haunted tracks. so just keep goin straight down that road and you will see all kinds of creepy stuff and cross the bridge. if you drive slow it will take about 45 minutes to get to the end of the road. hope this helped

Never heard that version of red eyes. I grew up in that neighborhood by the first church. The legend of red eyes goes back, well no one real knows. You see it is an indian legend. Handed down generation to generation. Or so I was told by one of my friends mother's who is a native indian of this area. As I was told, there was a shaman who had went crazy and started killing people of the tribe. The tribesmen captured him and decided he had to die for his crimes. For several moons the ground at his burial site startted glowing red, and one year to the day, the redness of the ground rose up and shaped 2 red orbs that floatted several feet of the ground roaming the woods searching and killing, leaving it's victom's hanging from the tree's. That's what I was told anyway.

I know about Red Eye, personal experience. Me, my oldest sister, and my two neiece when down Old State about 4 years ago when I had my pick up truck. It was during the day so me and my two niece sat in the back of the truck while my sister drove. Well, half way through to the 4way, we decided that nothing was going to happen or scare us. I took a picture of my youngest niece and it was just her. Well, my oldest niece, Erica, was sitting against the back of the truck and I took a picture of her on my cell phone. When I went back into my picture you could see Red Eye next to her. Except at the time in the picture he was also wearing what looked like a cowboy hat. It freaked all of us out and we all climbed through the back window back into the truck. So yes, Red Eye is true. As far as the tracks, we went back last night on Halloween 2010 and tried it out. Nothing happened. But then again with two guys scaring three girls, we didn't sit there long either.

Also going with the top one..... if you ever decide to go to the old state road then don't go to the grave yard because it is now recently a no trustpassing sign.... because the police was down there and they told ud that during the nite time that there had been a couple of kids going done to the grave yard and shooting the head stones my personally opinion on that is the fact that it is supposed to be haunted and they are going down there at nite shooting the freakin headstones on the graves!!!! ummm yea i just wanted to tell you that!!!...... But yea that is all i no about the old state road... other than when we went under the brigde we started to get cold chills (it was hotttttt) then i felt this twist in my leg.... it was kinda of creepy the more we got under the bridge the worst it hurt and we finally got from under the bridge and my leg felt so much better the pain was gone that fast it was amazing... but you should have seen our faces when we seen our first ghost escipllay on halloween nite!!!! =O

I learnt my lesson about that... not believing in something until u see it... oh and trust me it is scary but the thing is i want to back again... i want to make sure of what i saw was real!!!! i believe it is.... I never believe my dad when he said his firend was killed by a ghost... I don't think a ghost can kill... but hey i am not complaining because i don't want to see a ghost kill any one... i don't think ya'll would etheir!!!!...... haha I am just reliezing that i have alot to say about this, this is my 3rd big paragraph!!!! haha =))

It has been many years since my last drive down old state road. I too remember the stories about the railroad crossing , and the "satanic " church (I believe is actually a black church of some sort) ,and Red Eye. Never saw Red eye or had my car pushed. I id however get shot at by the man who lived in the trailor about half way down. I did also hear stories of a babies grave, if someone stood on it they would hear a baby cry and a story of an Klan hut down the road. Never heard a baby cry or saw anbody running around in the their bed sheets.

Ok so I've gone down old state a crap ton of times and thing that not alot of people know about is that theres another graveyard and thats where red eyes is. . .you go to the one visible graveyard and then walk directly behind it over the tracks and theres the other one and go at night . . .its sooo quiet no birds no crickets just dead silence

the story I heard about the VW bug was that the daughter of a klan member fell in love with a afro american man. One night they were chased down old state rd and gunned down by the klan. This is where the powerlines and gas main is I believe. The truth is probably it was stolen and trashed when who ever took it was done with it.

Car is still in the ditch?  Riiiiiight.  If someone had been murdered there, the police would have taken the vehicle as evidence.  Your story like every other story people have posted here is absolutely false.  None of these things happen and there are no red eyed creatures in the woods here.

old state story about getting pushed over the train tracks is 100% real. me and 4 other ppl went there around 4 in the morning joking around not believing anything would happen and we got directly in the middle of the tracks and put the car in nuetral then turned the car completely off and threw the keys in the back seat. we sat there for about 30 secs and nothing happened and every1 was complaining and then suddenly we moved very fast of the tracks and had to use the brake to stop from running off the side of the road. when we cranked the car back up we turned the all the lights on in the car and the whole back winshield was covered with gold colored children sized hands. i had never been so scared in my life and we must of went at least 100 miles per hour leaving the road. i wanna go back kind of but for all of you ppl who say you are gonna go i would go with a big group of people.

So, I went to Old State Road a while back with some folks, and we took pictures. Most of the pictures are of generic creepy things, like bridges and overpasses full of graffiti, weird looking trees, headlights in the distance, and old tires on the ground. However! Right before we got to Old State Road, we were stopped at a railroad crossing by a train. I think it was State Street. We were trying to take pictures of surrounding stuff. My brother's girlfriend spotted a man riding a horse in the distance behind us (it was just a mural, I think). I gave her the camera, she took a picture and... A spooky devil kabuki mask appeared in the photo!!! With RED EYES! I drew the face moar clearly to the right, for the unimaginative. Ok, so it's just a pizza box that was sitting in the rear that reflected onto the glass during the flash. It looked way more mask-like on the tiny camera screen. It's harder to see the face now. :/ Hail Little Caesar, the Red Eye monster that lives in West Columbia, South Carolina.

Hey! My friends and I went. We didn't know about the Red Eye story or the story about the bride. Now we did try the baby powder thing. It worked, I don't know how else to say it. So I suggest you do that. All you do is put a lot of baby poweder on the back of the car and do the neutral thing on the railroad tracks. To be honest we didn't stay long enough to see if the kids pushed us over, becuase we were too freaked out. Maybe when I'm in town again, I can hit some of you guys up with my group and we can go together. See ya! I suggest the Asylum as well.

this past weekend cody, (one of my good friends) and i  went down old state road and put baby powder on the back of our car. our results we had were 3 hand prints but the car did not roll. We did also see two very random dogs sitting in the middle of the road stuck together. As soon as we got to the end their was a man trying to get a ride. As soon as i looked back he was no longer there.

Me and a couple friends went a couple nights ago....Nothing happened. A deer ran out in the road and my friend claimed he had red eyes but I don't believe it. We didn't try the baby powder thing but we might tonight. Don't get me wrong, it is a freaky road to travel down. We were all scarred shitless. We went during the day to do some investigations and look around a bit. We didn't find anything out of the ordanery except for graffiti saying "kill us all" and "redrum" (murder) under the bridge. I want to get spooked, so we are going back out tonight. Wish us luck

the only thing that has happened to me is that when my friend and i went down there, we thought a bird had flown into our car b/c it sounded like it was hitting the back windsheild but then we remembered all of our windows were up so no bird could have gotten in, we don't know what was beating the windsheild, it quit shortly after.

Me and 3 of my friends went down Old State last night. The first bridge that we came across there were satanic drawings on it. NO LIE at all. Then we went to the bridge where the boy hung himself but we couldn't hear anything because frogs were really bad. We crossed the train tracks 4 times also. and out of those 4 times, our car completely rolled 3 times. The one time it didn't move was when one of the guys yelled out the window calling the "kids" shitheads. This road really is haunted

When I went with my sister and our friend in the beginning of July at night there was a train parked across the tracks. They climbed on top of it, I was too chicken, but there was no way to go around it. So we went down Old Wire Road and went back downtown. Later that night we went back by and it was still there. I'm going today with my boyfriend and his sister to see if the train is still there. It was really weird though. It was like it had been abandoned. I can't think of a reason why they would abandon a train on the tracks unless it was to stop people from going down the road or if it broke down. I think it's more probable that they were trying to stop people going down the road. But if that's true what about the people who live on the road? How are they supposed to get down it?

I live directly across the street from the church and it's on NEW STATE (yes, there is also a church further down old state near the graveyard).  I'll go look when I get home from work and see if those symbols are there.

3 friends and I went tonight under the bridge and put baby powder on the rear bumper of our car. We turned the car off and the lights and put it in neutral and waited about thirty seconds. We got out and there was a distinct handprint on the bumper and only one friend and I saw a shadowy figure moving around at an unhuman speed. The place certainly has paranormal activity going on and is simply erie regardless

Me and my friends went down Old State last night around midnight.  We took two cars because we couldn't pack into one.  While traveling down the road it was real creepy and it felt like we were being watched the entire time.  We ended up deciding to check out the graveyard right before the tracks.  When we got there my friends car got stuck in a mud puddle(thanks to the rain earlier) and we were forced to wait in the graveyard til around 3.  Needless to say we ended up seeing all kinds of freaky stuff including red eyes in and amongst the trees as well as apparitions and the continued feeling of being watched.  To top it of we kept hearing these in-human noises as well as seeing human like figures walking in the trees but making no noises.  Old State is a crazy hell-road.  It was fun but I don't think we are going to be visiting the graveyard anytime soon again.

I am very interested in investigating this location. The story about the church, as well as the reported bus crash from the 70's. How ever the GPS cordinates listed above put you right at what I am guessing is the start of the road right off New State Rd. If anyone could possiably give me either an address for the reported church, or GPS cordinates for this church, as well as GPS cordinates for the rail road crossing I will be in Columbia Sunday, and would like to investigate this before the end of october.

I drove a school bus down Old State in the 70's, so I can tell you that the bus crash story is a crock.

I went tonight with a couple friends. We didn't see anything out of the norm. We parked on the tracks, put it in neutral, turned the car off. Nothing happen, so we got out and hung out for a bit, then left. Just a relaxing trip to the woods, at one in the morning. I did get chills going under the bridge though.

I live near and have spent a night on Old State road. They are no black people who will hut or rob you. But all the stories are true. The blood and pentagram, the words, the family of cannibals living out there, I have spoken to the ghost of an old man and watched  him disappear. The house on old state is one of my best friends, and let me tell you something" OLD STATE IS HAUNTED. It's one of many old roads taken before I-26 heading toward charleston was built. I'v driven down Old state road at night by myself before and it was a hell of a experince. Who know's about many roads not known in Cayce/West Columbia?

haha wow, afew monthes ago my brother and I went down with the van and he said "watch this" so we got half way down the road and he turned the van off...we waited a minute then he tried firing up the van. it cranked but it wouldn't start. Creepy right? the we heard this creepy sound as if someone with metal ran it across the back of the van, then the van started shaking, i was trying hard not to scream...i looked back but there was nothing there. then the van finally started. and we drove off. but what ets me is how some of you are saying black people probably messed around, but what i dont understand is that i thought on friday and saturday nights the KKK would have there ritual thingies but idk i may be wrong i believe most of this stuff is just kids messing around.

SO we left and then went back and Laura and Jon went a different way and she called me and was like VANESSA he has a small peepee! And so Cody FREAKED out and blake told us that he had to go home because he was going to the beach the next morning with his bffls. It was crazyyyy!

I went yesterday and we went all the way down the road and then my friend turned around and went back. and a little before the trailor there was a guy in a gold s10 sitting there he got in front of us and drove slow. He turned down a road and then there was a guy in a silverish z71 facing towards us just sitting there. He had his window down a little and this girl said he was looking at us weird. When we passed him he put his car in reverse and started following us. we just kept driving and they didnt really do anything but it was scary as fuck. I am never going again with out a gun. not to shoot them. but for protection.

so far I have heard nothing that would support any claims of paranormal activity at this location.  Only some hyped up stories from scared teenagers that are lost in the mystery that is old state rd.  I have been able to find nothing through my research that has led me to believe that there is any activity yet.  Anyone have specific accounts that they will share, and might even be willing to research, and re visit let me know.

I spent the first 20 or so years of my life in that neighborhood on old state rd. and heard alot of stories. The only thing I ever saw was at the old church at the end of old state. I had been there many times before and never saw anything , but one time I did see a little girl sitting on a tombstone in an 1800 style dress.Kinda blueish in color. She was just sitting there and after a few seconds she looked toward me and raised her hand and vanished. The story goes that she died of some childhood illness and sits there waiting for her mother. Now there is a fence around the property, probably to keep trespassers out. And sorry but no, I will not go back there again.

To keep their names secret, I will just use their first names only.
In the real early 80's, Jim(dad), mike(son) and a friend Robby went down to old state road to camp and do some quail hunting.  This was before Sce&g owned all the property.  It was getting dusk when they got camp set up and decided to each go seperately to get fire wood.  Mike said he heard some rustling at the camp so he went back and saw his dad being held off the ground by something he couldn't quit make out.
Now keep in mind Jim was 6'2" and about 220ibs.  Mike shot the thing in the back with bird shot, it dropped his dad on the ground and turned to look at him.  It had glowing red eyes.  Robby helped Jim up and into the back of the pickup truck.  Mike drove the truck out and down the dirt road when he noticed in the rear view mirror this thing clawing at the tailgate doing about 35 miles per hour roughly.  When they got out of the area, they had to take Jim to the hospital with puncture wounds in both his shoulders.  The police investigated where they took pictures of Jims wounds and the claw marks on the tailgate of the truck.
I have personally lived in Cayce all my life and I'm 41 now and have witnessed things running across the road at night and heard sounds in the woods that would spook even the most fearless person.  I will locate the articles with the State and post a link so you can read it.

when going down old state road half way down the road there is a four way where you can turn down the road going by the plant if you follow it down to the stop sign and take a right to a paved road where a closed road is blocked there is a fenced area with a bunch of little houses on the left side does anybody know what it is?

I went down Old State road multiple times in high school! I had read and heard the stories multiple times! I tryed the railroad tracks thing and it never worked for me! Not saying its not possible because after growing up in a haunted house and going to Airport High School which is also haunted I have experienced the paranormal! So I do believe in ghosts but I never experienced anything really major on Old State Rd. Other than the fact there is definately a creepy feeling when on that road, a very, very eerie one...

just got back from old state and can say crazy things i have ever seen...second time in the past two weeks and i am my buddies have seen some crazy things. the first time we went we drove down the entire road and saw nothing very scary and then turned around to drive back and when we drove under the bridge coming back we parked the car and caught the lights off and sat in silence. we could see figures moving under the bridge in the shadows and then my buddy matt and richard all looked to the left side of the road coming back toward cayce and saw a man in a dark trenchcoat standing there 40 yards from us, we then heard a loud boom and took off as we left a flare shoot up into the air right behind the bridge we hauled and got out of there as fast as we could doing about 70. tonight we did the same thing and on the way back we sat under the bridge for ten minutes watching figures go from column to column and the same figure on the left returned shifting behind columns trying to hide as we saw glimpses of him...one of our friends key hopped out to look around and when he got home he noticed a huge gash on his foot, having not cut it on anything as he only walked on gravel and did nothing where he could be injured. our other friend richard experienced a bloody nose, and has never had a random bloody nose in his life....i have no clue what these things mean but all i can say is Old State should not be messed with that place is the home of spirits, very old spirits that can possibly harm you...

I am 17 and had never been out to old state so I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so me and 3 other friends drove out there. First of all, to get there you have to pass behind a "Road Closed" sign where a train is parked with its lights on. It honked at us twice and was pretty creepy. We continued down the road and saw a Baptist Church with a white steel fence around it. We then continued down the road and parked on the train tracks. Nothing happened I even got out and screamed "F U KKK" and "I love black people" and "dead kids come and get me!" Nothing. But then we decided to go hop the fence of that first church we came to. We were walking up to the church when a scary redneck in the house next door yelled "YOU KIDS GET THE HELL OUTTA THAT CHURCH" I had never run so fast in my life and even got bloody palms from hopping the spiky white fence. Needless to say I won't be hopping any church fences anytime soon, but we were annoyed to find out that it was not the Satan KKK church we'd heard so much about. Just watch out for crazy rednecks.

Has anyone else seen this car down there?

Ok the large bridge with the water pipe next to it is called crybaby bridge. because sometime in the 60's or 70's a young lady was driving around to get her baby to stop crying. So she some how end up on that bridge. So she got out and started to walk about the bridge. She came to the edge and throw her newborn baby the from the bridge to its death. The crying won't stop so she jumped to her death. When you come to the bridge park your car, lock the door, get out and your keys on your hood, walk about 10 - 20 feet from your car. ok everyone need to been quite. All at the same time u clearly say "crybaby crybaby will you cry for me". Now keep still and keep quite.

I drove down Old State today with a friend, just as the sun was going down. It was raining, to couple with the spooky atmosphere. The road itself is quite normal, just a beat up dirt road in the country, nothing special. The rain was causing the potholes to fill with water, so my Jeep was pretty muddy by the time we made it to the railroad tracks (which was the only ghost story I was aware of at the time, but now hearing of the others, I'm inclined to return). We tried it twice, but neither time experienced any sort of "paranormal activity." It's just a random dirt road in the country, no ghosts, poltergeists, evil spirits, satanists, Valley Girls, vampires, werewolves, or any colored eyes to speak of, and certainly no Klansmen.

Me and my friends have been down Old State a couple of times. Nothing really scary about it except its a creepy dirt road. and out where i live i'm use to creepy dirt roads at night. But I've seen that big silver truck that some people have said to have seen. We actually stopped and talked to the guy. He was sitting on the bridge. He said he was waiting too meet a girl out there. It was like a Thursday night at about 3 am. and all I could think was why was he meeting a girl on Old State on a Thursday at 3 am. who knows. But he also told us. He spent a lot of time in the woods. and He told us never to go back in there because he has seen things and heard things that were not human. And has hand stuff taken from him from things he couldn't explain. So who knows about Old State...

I took my motorcycle out their with a female friend. We came on from the Goudly Road side, which is closer to the bridge. It is a cool road and me being on a street bike I could only go about 15-30 mph. We stopped on the bridge. At night I could see the spray paint of KKK symbols. I turned off my bike and smoked a cig. All of a sudden I heard footsteps below the bridge. I listned and I could tell by the steps it was a Human. The vines started to move and my female freind was freaked out. I told her its a human for sure. I then blasted the Rev limiter on my bike. this would cause any aninmal to run due to the loudness. The vines stopped moving and I told her I am going down their. She convinecd me not too becuase she was so freaked out. We then moved on under the interstate, I saw bums out and concluded that a bum was under that bridge we were just at. We went past the church and the house next to it. We then went to the rail road tracks. I parked my motorcycle on the tracks. Nothing... I covered my bike in dust, no hand prints. My female friend told me she felt heavy and I told her it was her emotions( Which it was). She felt the railroad tracks and they felt warm over the road. I told her to follow me and brought her to the end, where the land meets the bare rails. I showed her the groud acts as insulation and we both felt the difference in the bare track vs the track with dirt and rocks piled up (which was warmer). My conclusions are that this place is probably not haunted. Just populated with myths and bums. I will do more research in the future. Maybe with nightvision and thermal. I Do not think one trip is enough to fully conclude.

Anyone have any intel on the light at the end of the railroad tracks? My friend and I traveled down their becuase I saw movement. We got to the end of the light source and I found a barbed wired fence saying "EASTMAN CHEMICAL" It has a masterlock with a chain. We walked back and I turned back and saw a white truck with headlights on. We both ran, I then saw them unlocking the padlock and with their flashlights running after us. We had a good lead but I had to slow my pace due to my friend having asthma. We made it to the truck and they were still running with flashlights in hand. We zoomed off and they didnt appear to chase us anymore. Anyone know what eastman chemical is doing at the end of the tracks with the light? I couldn't find anything online.

old state rd. is still there. they have permanently closed the train xing at state st. and frink st. you either need to take the 12th st. ext. to godley st. and through riverland park past the boatlanding or get on I-26 and take exit 119, aka old pine plains rd. however once or twice a yr. they will close the road if the river floods. this is the reason why it has never been paved.

Went to Old State Road last weekend with a few friends. We didn't see anything paranormal. We did however see a man walking through the woods alone at 2am with no flashlight, nice haha!

Me and a small group of my friends when on halloween and we put flour on the back of the car but we didn't stay long enough for anything to happen. The place is pretty creepy and no it hasn't been closed off. There is a white light to the left on the tracks but i was told its always been there.

I used to believe that this road was haunted. But after 12 hours of excessive research between me and another friend the information we found doesn't make me think this place is haunted. There is no record of a school bus being hit by a train. There is a factory that bought 2,300 acres near old state, company is called Eastman, they bought this land back in 1962. Those railroad tracks lead right into Eastman so any trains passing through were going to or from Eastman. And any school bus being hit by a large company's train is going to be in the news. Also, the church, St. John's Baptist Church, is basically an all black church started back in the cival war era. This church has been victim to many KKK outtings because it was an all black church. Some people say that the KKK still have meetings down there, I know for sure that they have meetings in Pelion, SC. They have dug up some graves, including the pastor of the church. And burned it to the ground two times. The last time the church burned down was back in 1995. Currently there is a man, or a family, that lives next to the church. I know that every time me and my friends ride by they give us these nasty go-to-hell looks. People who say things have happened to them, maybe it's their mind, I don't know. I will admit the place is still kinda creepy but no matter what time of the day you drive down there.

In 1995 it wasn't the KKK that burned the church it was a group of high school kids. I have been down that road several times and it is creepy. I have seen several sacraficed animal skeletons in the graveyards.

This stuff has been going on for at least 30 years.  There isn't any satanic church on Old State Road.  St. John Church at the public end of Old State Road is a black Christian Church that has suffered numerous acts of vandalism, arson, and theft over the past twenty years.  My guess is the satanic church stuff started around the time of desegregation.  The school bus on the railroad tracks thing is an urban legend found all over the country in hundreds of different versions. There is detailed satellite and airplane imagery of the area on Google Maps and Bing Maps.  Look for yourselves.  There aren't any odd satanic church buildings in the middle of the woods behind iron gates.  Please leave the church and the people who live in the area alone.  The old Saint Paul's cemetery in the woods was vandalized in the late 80's (it was behind the other railroad track crossing) at the end of Old State.  I doubt there's anything left of it now.

my opinion may not matter nor is it condoning what goes on there. My 16 year old son decided to take a joy ride to go down this road with several friends in the car. he was pulled over by hwy patrol on 277 therefore his fun was cut short.my wife didnt tell me for several days. before she did tell me, there was a body found just pass the bridge from the west columbia side, raped strangled and shot. TRUTH!!!! when i heard about where my son was going and why, I drove to see what the hell our teens are entertaining themselves with. Ive heard some stories about the place and dont play with these issues, but if my son is going to try to sneak to do this I feel it neccessary to know where he goes. I felt sadness turning on to state road hearing the racial bull that continues to happen. saw the church and wondered how I woould feel if my church was burnt down or my home even over childish behavior. I then had an overwhelming feeling that i shouoldnt be there.curiosity got the best of me. i drove to the bridge just passed the boat ramp. saw the graffiti satanic insignia painted there, i knew i was in the wrong place. I could not turn around there, it had been raining for two days. I drove maybe 100 yards further with my eyes looking at the woods thinking man what a great place to hunt when i was cut off by this silver truck that im reading about in this blog. I asked the driver if there were any other places to fish down this road, I had planned on fishing at the boat ramp dock, He smiled with a sincerely curious smile and said "theres nowhere you want to fish down this road" kinda giggling as he looked at me. I looked at the road ahead of me full of mud and seemingly to go nowhere but a tow. I headed his advice. I quickly decided to make a three point turn on the road without advancing. when I turned around I SAW NO TRUCK. I believe in the spirits of the paranormal. I thought I had an experience when I was 10. but now I know I have. wasnt the truck, but the eyes of the driver. I felt like I was almost in the movie Deilverance. but was saved the embarrassing tributes. Good luck to all you thrill seekers. I wont be back

I've been visting this area multiple times. It's not haunted. I've walked threw the woods many times with my flahslight off. No red eyes, no paranormal activity. I've seen bums under the intersate, and the small bridge. I've tested the car stalling on the birdge and little hand prints. Nothing this was over ten times. I've visited the graveyard near the rail road tracks multiple times. Nothing, but an overgrown cemetaery witha path leading to the rail road tracks and Lexington County blue signs infront of the main path. Only thing paranormal going on is people's imaginations. I can assure you that the trucks you see are either the owners that live next to the church or Eastman Chemical security.

This story occurred in late 2009.  I was new to the area and living in the apartments between Blossom and Gervais St bridges.  I was returning from a business trip in Charleston.  It was very late at night and I had programmed what I thought to be the correct address for my apartment into my GPS.  My GPS told me to turn off I-26 way before I thought I should, but as most of us do these days; I followed it blindly.  The lights from civilization slowly start to die out, and I find myself wondering “where in the hell am I?”  I was of course alone.  I look up and I see a sign “State Maintenance Ends.”  I look at my GPS and the screen is pretty much blank other than the route I had just followed.  Mind you, its as if the road just ends on my GPS, nothing ahead.  I creep forward slowly and I see that there is a dirt road ahead of me.  All of the sudden my GPS picks it up and says 3.4 miles turn left.  It’s telling me to follow this dirt road.  I question this but I am tired and I want to get home.  I begin to drive along the road, its very creepy, rainy, and I just wonder where in the hell am I.  So I call a friend and start laughing about how scary this place is.  I come across a place where it looked like someone had tried to block the road with a log.  Even now I get chills thinking about it.  Just like the story says, as I drive past this log I have to go off into the softer mud on the side of the road.  I am worried about getting stuck and then ahead of my a couple of huge birds fly accross the road.  This startles me and I just floor it the hell out of there.

After I pass the houses and the end and the cemetary (which all look creepy).  I decide not to go home, and go visit some college buddies.  I told them where I had just been and they freak out!!  They are like you just drove down the most haunted road in the city.  “Your effin crazy man!!”  “People worship the devil out there!”  “That place is haunted by civil war ghosts!”  “I would never go down that road alone!”

Needless to say ... I haven’t been back.  No thank you.

Me and some of my friends went to old state the other day, we saw a guy on the side watching us so one of us got out to ask if he needed something. He told us we were playing a dangerous game on a dangerous road. So we sped the hell down the road.

A friend and I went tonight just after a really serious storm there where trees down and stuff so we had to take my truck. Because there where only two of us we did not want to stop on the bridge so we just went straight to the railroad tracks and sat there for quite some time and nothing really happened we even had baby powder on the bumper and no handprints. we are going back next week with a few more people.

Driving down Old State Rd. is creepy at night and beautiful during the day.  Its best to start out where New State becomes Old State.  You'll go down a straight road lined with tall pine woods and pass Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve on the right.  Then the pavement ends and you'll cross an old bridge with a big pipe that runs parallel to it.  The next attraction is where the road goes under I77.  Here you'll find a cornucopia of graffiti and maybe a bum or two.  Don't get raped!  Keep going and you'll get to the church and a few houses with people who will probably be annoyed by your rubbernecking.  If you take the next left you'll go down a sandy road  that ends at a dilapidated cemetery.  The signs say not to go in, but hell you just drove down a long ass road to see some creepy shit.  Theres a few graves with shotgun blasts and holes dug in the ground, which can only be explained by paranormal activity.  And the train track thing doesn't work unless you see a big bright light approach your car perpendicular to the road.  Then your car will definitely move.  Oh yea and there may or may not be an old indian burial ground that turns into a portal to hell at night where satanic cults sacrificed virgins and Pee Wee Gaskins buried several of his victims.

I've been on old state like 3 times or so... 1st time on the bridge saw silhouettes and that's it.... The two other times to go do the train thing, the first time we tried we got scared and wasn't there long enough for anything to happen, my boyfriend saw red eyes and he said he felt the car stall but I think it was because we tried to high tail out so quickly it was a bit creepy if I do say so myself, while leaving we had chills and the weather just looked evil it got so windy all of a sudden blowing leaves around and all... I saw a tiny car parked in a cut was kind of creepy... I felt like these cars out there were following us out, one dude looked at us kinda weird... We saw a lot of deer and a disturbing looking possum as well... We decided to just try again the next day, I was sure enough to be brave enough to but on the way out there it was like something told us to leave I felt as if we were being watched the whole time, while we weren't far from coming into the entrance where the brick sign is, a cop was patrolling the roads it was kind of like hmm, maybe we shouldn't do this... The houses there are creepy all I could think of was the movie, wrong turn... especially where them houses are looks like a perfect area for a horror film, I'd love to star in, haha. Anyways, we kept going down the road and saw this huge deer way infront of us, we didn't know what it was at first because of how big it was it looked like a person, the deer was hopping around like a crazy kangaroo!!! I swear it looked like it turned into a figure then disappeared and it looked like the deer just jumped out of it like "blues scaddoo" in a total different direction, then the deer was no where to be seen I didn't even see it go into the woods then out of no where three baby deer were calmly walking a line onto the other side of the road/woods, that was creepy my heart like fell into my stomach trying to make out what the world that was about. Then not far down the road we saw something that caught our eye but before I could even make out what it was I saw a MOPED tag shining in my eyes out of no where, a moped was mysteriously just laying there and I was like okay that's just too weird for me lets just floor it and keep going and take the first  right out of here, something didn't want us going any further. I haven't been back since. I really want to but wanting to and actually being there is two different things on so many levels. It was enough experience for me to know that playing games with the haunted, is nothing to play with. I never believed in ghost or anything like that, you have to allow yourself to for things to happen, I am too scared to take that risk! Maybe I will go back one day, but with a much larger group.

I just went with two of my friends. We saw the mythical Silverado ahead of us. He actually pulled over and let us pass him. we stopped on the tracks once but nothing we really happened. we also saw a wild strange dog twice any myths about that? we saw the blood on the bridge i guess. has anyone ever noticed that on one of the signs before the tracks theres obvious shotgun pellet holes penetrating the back? check it out. after we left there we muddy handprints on the door handles and windows that we didn't see get put on.  I would put up pics but you'd just accuse us of faking.

Just got back from old state road with some friends from church. The st. Johns Baptist church's light goes on and off randomly. We tried the railroad legend they did not push us, but what was so fucking scary was we saw a train coming so we went over the tracks. Then the train disappeared and did not pass. Then we continued down the road in the other direction and saw what appeared to be red eyes, but t was actually a raccoon in a tree on the side of the road. The satanic church i think it is to the left of the church and the KKK compound. It is behind a steel gate so we didn't go back and double check (we didn't feel like getting shot tonight). I will NEVER go down that road again... The ruts about blew out our suspension, no a fun ride. Oh... And a huge owl Came out of nowhere and about hit us.

If you go to the baptist church, park, and walk to the left of it (past the iron gate) for about a mile, you will find a shy, barking dog and a lot of fields. There is no satanic church. Don't waste your time. I listened to the comment at the top. Thanks, jerk. There is a burned cross on the side of the baptist church that looks like a shadow though. That was kinda weird. You can't see it during the day.

I heard about some of the things that happen on Old State Me and some friends visited this place on 4/14 of this year. I am not much in this kinda thing. I do know that before we took this trip we had 3 cars of friends. I had my car washed that day and following behind my friends my car got dusty going down that road. I know I stoped on the tracks and was pushed across I can't explane it but something pushed us across. I have the prints on my back bumper to prove this.We than went to the bridge and parked on it for a few and  I had presents of supernatural things. I must say it was creepy. All I know is that I had hand prints all over my car.O ne spot looks like some one had jumped onmy hood wile I was driving .The dust told the teal.

The efforts to heal the Old State Rds by the synthphonetic

Apollyon Revival Darkness Soundquest Organization, and

overall blessings to the nature in the area are ongoing, yet

the satanic majesty's steel mill and dynamite mining demons

that possess the area and perpetuate the vortex of the native

Cherokee trail and the surrounding neiborhood that was built

around teh immaginarium is still an escalating matter, and in

recent years, state funding closed off all roads of entrance in

hopes to kill off the possessed residence of the neiborhood

but failed when the expected floodzone did not reach capacity

I went last night and the night before in a chevy motecarlo or whatever, which was not a smart idea with all the mud. the first night there was a train sitting down the tracks with its lights on, the people in the house seemed really creepy too. me and the only other girl with us were too scared to get out so we then just drove the rest of the way and went home. then last night we werent as scaredso we got out and walked around at the bridge and the guys kept stopping to pee. the people at the house watched us again and the train was no longer there. then we went back through that same night and this time we put baby powder on the bumper and sat in neutral on the tracks. we rocked a little bit and only saw one finger print on the bumper. but once we got back home, we noticed a hand print and little drawings in the dirt on the trunk. it was fun and today were about to go again, this time in the daytime

Is the entire stretch of road supposed to be haunted, or only specific portions? I just found out about this and live within easy driving distance to it.

Well, ive been down old state about 25 times in the past 3 years and i can tell what rumors are true/false.  First, I do believe that somewhat paranormal things can happen in the world but from my experience nothing like that exists on old state.  Second, there is a church off the middle of the road near the only house on the road, it is not satanic.  Those are all the false rumors.  The KKK does indeed exist however on old state.  I have witnessed them and seen very strange things out there ect...Also the man and his family that live in the one house on old state, I suggest you do not stop anywhere near that house or go back and forth alot because that man is definitley hiding something about what happens out there.  there is a old broken down wooden cabin about 50 yds to the right down the road of the house.  I once stopped there and then 10 mins later the man came out of nowhere with his friends and got in my face and said "you dont wana be f****** with my sh** boy" after this I apologized and got the hell outa of there.  Thats one experience Ive had with him.  Also Im pretty sure the guys in the jeep grand cherokee are affiliated with the KKK so watch out.  Ive got many more stories.  If anything its much more dangerous to go out there than fun.  Also the cayce way in is blocked off however you can get in from the st.matthews way or there is a middle road that leads in but I dont know how to get there other than its off some highway in cayce.  Hope this helped

Hello all. I have a question for anyone who lives in the area of Columbia SC. I recently stumbled across an old picture that my grandparents took either in the 80's or 90's. It's a picture of a house with no windows. The front door of the house is sideways and has possible human skulls around the front. They believed it to be either a witch house or a satanic house. It's said that you can drive by slowly but if you stop someone will shoot at you. Have any of you heard about this particular place or have you seen it? If so, is there a way I can find it? Thx!

I've been on old state, last weekend actually. I'm filming a video series about urban legends and I've been looking at old state road for a long time. I haven't experienced anything yet but my team and I are going back at night next weekend. It sounds dangerous based on what y'all have said but we're doing it anyways.
