Historic Boggy Depot Park, located in Atoka, provides a refreshing, restful place for campers to enjoy the beauty of southeastern Oklahoma.

This park gets its name from Clear Boggy Creek and from its use as a Confederate commissary depot during the Civil War. In 1972, Boggy Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places. While it was once a state park, Boggy Depot Park is now being managed by the Chickasaw Nation.

Around 1:00PM in July of 1992 alongside a country road, 3 people had the feeling of being watched. They were standing near a melon patch “I noticed something that seemed to be standing behind a large tree.” The hunting dogs were “going crazy.” The creature let out a deep growl similar to a bear. “After the event, we could hear strange sounds coming from the woods for quite a while. 2006, There have been some recent reports coming out of Atoka, Oklahoma of sightings of Bigfoot. Some accounts have been published in the local Atoka County Times. KXII Channel 12 ran a report on the sightings.

A local legend is getting new life. In the last two weeks, there were three separate Bigfoot sighting in rural Atoka County. The final sighting included photos that some say is the mysterious creature itself.

Talk to people around Clear Boggy Creek in Atoka County and you will here thousands of stories. But last week, the legend himself, Bigfoot, was supposedly spotted in those very woods.

They have grown up on these woods and know them well. But last week, 13-year-old Morgan Whatley and her 12-year-old brother Garrett came across something strange right across the creek was a creature she’d never seen before.
